  1. Anybody reading all about this at the Clinic on Cycling news forum, also a colourful discussion about the Fround's interview. I thought aliens don't need outside assistance. Seriously, on last year's TdF, a red flag was raised when Sky ostensibly cheated, giving Froome goo, or finishing additive, on the climb, when he apparently bonked. Paid the fine, admitting to breaking the rules, hey but we need to win. The peleton struggled on, abiding by the rules. This is when I started to lose respect for the Sky Train and their marketing of clean cycling. Cheating is cheating.
  2. Final comment, the anti freeze is talking, would Froome support Wiggins this year if circumstances were otherwise? Enjoy the riding this weekend.
  3. BTW..Would be nice if Froome came and made a big thing about cycling safety in SA, him sort of a semi permanent resident here. Good marketing angle for the future of cycling here. He rides the roads here, and sadly our greatest hope, Burry died on those same roads. Give a little back ?????
  4. Two alpha dogs in the pit, the one with the biggest ball wins?? Given this, I think I'll look out for the oppostion, Like Contador, and the outsiders. Question: Given Sky's record, why no talk of Richie Porte??? Strong Contender.... or is that "politically incorrect???"
  5. To all the Freedom participants, good riding, pushing, portaging, and have a blast. It's all about the journey!
  6. More seriously, is this after a one day long ride, a stage racing event, or just a result of overtraining? there are different approaches to different views. Also you have to look at your condition, have you been training regularly, or is this the result of too much in one go. There is no silver bullet although beer helps!!!
  7. Happy Birthday Andrew! Out of this, i believe that many of us "normal" cyclists have learned a lot from this thread for when we next purchase a bicycle! For that, many thanks, and I hope you get a 91K birthday present!!!
  8. Go Team LeakeyGas!!!!!!!
  9. I second all the above positive comments. Linden Cycles are in the top tier of cycle shops for service, and will always have my support
  10. Hi. They started building last weekend. The chap who did the Wines to Whales track is overseeing the building. Chatted with him a bit. I think it starts at Something Country, and goes down to the Lhino Park. The plan is to have a loop all the way around past Lanseria, I think. There is an article in the latest Ride Mag. Great to have new stuff and thanks to the organisers.
  11. Hi. I am interested in riding this event, and wonder if those who have done it before can advise the following: As it is an A to B ride, how do we get back to Ceres...do the organisers arrange this or must one make a plan? I see a bus to Cape Town, but I am from Gauteng. If I drive down, my car will be at Ceres. Sleeping arrangements? on finishing, what does one do Any info will be appreciated
  12. Yes, a great way to tell the locals how much we cyclists appreciate riding where they, including me, live.
  13. While I fully see the OP's view, hey, it's your head! Given that, if it's at a formal cycling area ( MTB Park, etc) USE your head and obey the rules. Mate of mine, one of the bulletproof ones who ride every 9 months or so, took a tumble last year riding with me, I was 15m or so ahead of him in a technicalish section, and I hear the fall, and Crack!, his helmet breaking. Head was ok, or else it was hospital. I Worry about his mental state still!!! Oh and then it will be on Carte Blanche, The dangerous sport taking over SA!!! Mountain Biker kills himself!!!! No Helmet!!!! Also , remember in UK and Europe it is no obligitary to wear a helmet. Be it on you your own head!!!....Use It

Hey after all this.... someone said Its not about the bike (don't sue me) Just ride and have fun!!
  15. Hey All, simple observation. My wife rides socially, MTB &Road, and walks the dogs regularly at Emmarentia and has commented on the attitude of the cycists there. (Obviously MTBer's on the spruit have ATTITUDE) Simple rules: Everyone have respect. Sorry your Strava attempt failed due to a dog walking a person. Dogs and people were there before MTB's. (let's not count the decades) If one forgets about respect, get on a road bike and have attitude with the cars and lunatics on the road. You will learn or die trying to earn that respect, and no one will care anyway. We all ride, and we need to ask the simple question, WHY are we riding, for the pleasure of it, or to prove a F**ing point
  16. HI Guys! Did this last time in 2009 (the event is every 4 yrs). Nice to see they had better weather. Go Girls! They are two very tough cookies! Sleep lack in the last stretch gets you!!
  17. Hey Heel Drop, I found the guidelines how to build your own repair stand. the scan is too big for posting, so if you PM me your email, I'll send it to you. It was in Bicycling mag, Feb 2010.
  18. I seem to remember a home made DIY plan for a bike stand in a bike mag a few years ago. I think I cut it out, so I 'll dig around in the files. If I find it I'll post it here.
  19. Why didn't to just join strava.com????????????
  20. Picked up this post again to see if anything interesting has happened. Same old, same old. However a few comments got me thinking about old Cadel. I really didn't like the guy 3 to 4 year ago...thought lots of sour grapes etc..him behaving the way he did, mucho aggressivismo. Then my respect grew after LA retired??? Then it grew even more after taking on Mandy and Andrea scleck in the hills. Then he won. Has not been drawn into the affair (yet, I hope). Also makes you wonder why he went to small BMC when he did. I found out he likes red wine and opera too!.. not bad.... for an Aussie
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn"t an Australian rider die in his sleep on the Epic a few years ago. I seem to remember EPO being mentioned then as a probable cause. If so it's been going on a while here. Also, we're all cyclists, whether MTB or Road, and this situation with George proves it. Very sad for everyone who pedals.
  22. Got it yesterday. Fascinating and shocking at the same time!
  23. This morning I noticed that after the recent rains there are quite a few potholes on the Driefontein Road from Muldersdrift going towards Avianto, just after the short downhill. After the accidents a few weeks ago thought that a heads up to everyone is in order. Be aware!
