  1. Hi Guys, Input on the following please : Cannondale CAAD4 9sp Ultegra Mavic Wheelset VS Scott Speedster S4 Tiagra Alex Rims Both in fairly good condition. These options for a heavier rider such as myself now at 112kg?? I may be wrong but I am looking at two considerations: 1. COMFORT 2. DURABILITY Comments/input appreciated. The idea is to build up my weekly mileage and for base training, as well as a few odd "races" amashova maybe even Argus.
  2. After two services and one repair, I have to give credit where credit is due. Awesome service from Concept Cyclery Waterfall. Each time I get the dreaded call expecting a huge bill I have been pleasantly surprised.
  3. Is it just me or was Wiggins crying and whinging about everything at the Giro this year...This has just confirmed it for me... Why would you complain about the cameraman in your face if everyone else has the same problem??? To send a text like that it is attention seeking...and showed his weakness and lack of confidence..what a Dork!
  4. Havent ridden Vernon, but I've ridden Rocky Bay a few times and the single track back down to the start is good fun. Be careful though the single track splits with a small sign that reads +1.3km. That section has some soft sand and fallen banana trees... Enjoy!
  5. Rode Rocky Bay MTB trail yesterday. Good fun!! Single track on the way back down was a blast!
  6. ...read my mind and with all the rain its going to be a gamble ...mud and tents = not lekka
  7. The camping in tents was not my idea...it is the caravan park that sits on the edge of the lagoon and the mouth . Later in the holidays I will be going to Albert Falls or Midmar for some Bassfishing, MTB'ing and the occassional alcoholic beverage refreshments! but we will be staying in Chalets at least!
  8. Now this I would like to see... I have two plastic coated cable type bike ties with combination locks 1.8 m long. The cable is about 15mm thick... As Dictator said they shoudnt be a museum piece but why is this so hard man?? Maybe the "Bikey" must sleep in the cab
  9. Was thinking the same frikken thing
  10. So we are going to St Lucia and will be camping in tents... I have just outlayed some cash on a new bike ...do I take the bike or not?? There are some nice trails to ride but I cant help thinking that stressing about the bikes being stolen will make it just not worth it for me... I have even been thinking that maybe I should buy a cheapie bike to take up with me. We are going to a caravan park which has guards patrolling at night but I dont know if the worry is worth it as much as i would like to ride... What do you guys think??
  11. R1500 Bud but that is already a stretch
  12. Okay guys, I am looking at getting a budget or should I say well used Road Bike to help me rack up some miles during the week. Trek 2800 Campy Chorus (looks like the prev owner took off the wheels and replaced with a knackered set) I have a few questions wrt wheels : Q What wheels can work with Campy Chorus Group Set Q From what I have read there are different wheels for diff purposes eg training racing etc. As a second nike for mileage and climbing training any auggestions? Q WIth these in mind what would be a good optaing training wheelset for a heavier rider. I have been advised to look at a wheelset with plenty spokes etc. Q Would a wheelset like Campy vento work as a training wheelset? Ta Ryan
  13. Thanks Guys for the input much appreciated... I think I will be sticking with the 2012 with the intention of upgrading the shock when I can to something decent. Thanks for the update SSS and wishing you many more safe and trouble free miles! Eric there is not much difference between the 500 and the 300 except the 500 is a 10 speed I think?
  14. Thanks AA thats good to know Bud as Im also on the Large side and looking for something that will hold me and my gut ; )
  15. Thanks for the Head Up guys, the main issue I have is where the frame sits inside the rubberised bracket. Lately I have made a habit of tying the nylon strap extra tight and using a quality rubberised luggage strap to secure the wheels. The pool noodle is a good idea! I will also give the old tube idea a bash but what I will try is placing a section of old tube around the frame where it fits into the rack and attach to the frame with cable ties.
  16. Hi thanks guys, Yip its a 2012 model new for around the R8500 mark, I was explained the air fork difference and to me its not a train smash. SSS that sounds pretty reliable what type of riding have you done in those 2000km? Brett Im in the same boat Boet...just got about 20 odd kgs to forcibly remove from my body with a bit of blood sweat and tears...I upgraded to cleats about two months back and loving it! I enjoyed the comfort of the 29er so will be taking the plunge.
  17. I have a Thule Bike Express and noticed that when I transport my bikes the rack seems to be rubbing the frame and damaging the paint work. Anyone have any ideas and how to prevent this or any suggestions?
  18. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone owns one of these and what there experience has been. Brief summary : Deore Shifters and Brakes 10 spd XT rear Derailer Deore Crank RL Base Suntour Front Shock 29er Big Nine Rims I am leaning towards a new 29 er as opposed to well specced used 26 er. Thanks
