  2. DAY 4O: Very thankful to be a quitter. My riding has taken on a new dimension as my fitness has improved dramatically. Food seems to taste better every day. I WANT TO THANK ALL THE PARTICPANTS IN THIS THREAD. I RECALL READING THIS THREAD IN FEBRUARY 2013 AND ADMIRING ALL OF YOUR EFFORTS AND FEELING YOUR FAILURES AND DISSAPPOINTMENTS. MAY YOU ALL EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS AS YOU REACH FOR YOUR GOALS IN 2014!!!
  3. DAY 19 : Feeling good , no craving, no issues. Went for a 40 k road ride and felt super strong. No irritabilty, no sweet cravings. I have maintained my diet and training and nothing has changed. I highly recomend kicking the habit for boost to the self esteem and pure riding pleasure.
  4. Howzit fanie, DAY 13 Going strong no major issues... just a little more hungry than usual and coughing a bit lately but otherwise strong. Tempted to stop the Champix but WILL NOT. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY FEELING CLEAN HEALTHY AND FULL OF ENERGY! Very interestingly my sleeping has improved leaps and bounds. Anyone out there that has been thinking about quitting...GO FOR IT!! Thanks for the support fanie!
  5. Cheers Fanie but I have decided that the benefits far outweigh the side effects of something that is helping me quit. I will deal with the nausea... Pieter I decided to quit first and then decided to use the Champix to help. The depression is one of the side effects of quitting. I have been feeling a bit lethargic and havent changed anything else. Still riding etc. but battling to concentrate and focus, but I dont care. I am using every bit of difficulty or discomfort to serve as an eternal reminder to never touch the stuff again. I will list a few of the symptoms here: My sleeping has been affected and I wake up most nights..TOUGH. I have experienced nausea shortly after taking the tab and about an hour after TOUGH Feeling irritable and empty TOUGH Feeling tired, restless and having difficulty concentrating TOUGH Slight mood swings..TOUGH Increase in appetite ..TOUGH Sweet cravings ..TOUGH My mindset is that no matter how hard or uncomfortable things get I will not cave. Despite these challenges I am relieved and grateful not to be smoking. The harder things get the more determined I am to never go through it again. Pieter when I read about your struggles on this thread they inspired me to quit for once and for all. I hope that sharing my experience here will inspire you somehow. Best of luck Mate..you can do it!
  6. Well done Chaps ...our Christmas Prezzie to ourselves...a longer healthier life...
  7. Day 5 -- Champix really does help..feeling ok...a bit run down but I'll push through it . I have tried the Champix before but I think I almost expected the tabs to magically solve everything. Read "The Easy Way" which changed some dumb mindsets that I had and also got rid of the fear of quitting I started the pack at 1 a day 0.5 mg and when it went up to 2 x 0.5mg I felt strong enough to quit completely. I have experienced a bit of nausea but I will take nausea over Lung Cancer everyday of the week. I havent had any real cravings to speak of but I am very weary of getting over confident. I have to keep reminding myself to happy that I have quit but mentally I believe that the battle has only just begun. .KAKKEST habit there ever was!!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone on this thread that contributed. Keep going...
  8. Gummi, the Aksium race have a low spoke count, I am after at least 32 spoke rims...and I would prefer regular spokes that can be worked on (hopefully rarely) by most bike mechanics. I am not too concerned with the weight of the wheels...
  9. ..PM Sent David...
  10. Thanks for the response Gummi..thats just the thing... I need the entire set, I was thinking of 105 or Ultegra...
  11. After making a study (by Google by Hub) of road wheel sets for the more gifted in the waist department, I have realized that finding open Pros/CXP33 etc is more difficult than I thought. Anyone have an idea who, where, what can help me in sourcing strong rims, hubs and spokes and maybe a master in the ancient art of wheel building...preferably in RSA and even better KZN. I have looked at importing from Velomine but I cant afford to cough up for something that may or may not ever arrive... Yes I know...this question has probably been asked umpteen times... Any help would be appreciated .. Cheers
  12. I bought a Big 9 300 new about a year ago and have done about 1000km on the bike. I have ridden a few challenging areas and the bike has served me well. I have taken good care of it and the bike still looks like the day I bought it! I have had no mechanical issues with the bike. I am very happy with it. A fellow hubber told me that his Dad bought one and had done 6500km on it with no mechanical issues and this is what prompted me to go for it. Good luck with your purchase!
  13. Great read Orsum, May you have many more enjoyable, memorable and safe rides!
  14. What did I miss??
  15. Thanks Naas. No pressure
  16. Thanks Johan! This is in line with what I have picked up reading some previous (stompies) threads. I am after a strong set of wheels that will last. I tested a bike a few weeks back and it had mavic CXP 33's with Ultegra Hubs and plenty spokes and was mightily impressed. What do you suggest in terms of skewers and bearings??
  17. Im in KZN and been looking around around for 25C's. They seem pretty scarce..or am I blind?
  18. Thanks for the well wishes! Cippo I see you just laid claim to a set of Mavics? Will they do the job for a 110kg + rider? I know....the question has been asked ad nauseum....
  19. How does an increase in training load affect yourt glycogen and general energy levels? When I increase my training load I don't recover before the next ride and feel a general fatigue. I currently don't use any supplements.
  20. I eventually went with a newer bike a Felt CA1 with a 10 speed 105 group set in great nick. Only concern is the W550 wheels. Thanks Guys
  21. So I eventually went with option C None of the above. Felt CS1 105 Grouposet in great nick. My only concern being the wheels Shimano wh550 which might not work. I will be on the lookout for bomb proof training wheels. Thanks for the advice guys.
  22. Hi Guys, Just wanted to know if Shimano WH500 road wheels would work for a Heavier Rider in the 110 kg PLUS size??? If not what would be the best alternative for training purposes...the bike is Shimano equipped? Lastly I have been reading on The Hub the Road Tyres can help with ride comfort ..any suggestions will be appreciated... Thanks!
  23. Hi Guys, Input on the following please : Cannondale CAAD4 9sp Ultegra Mavic Wheelset VS Scott Speedster S4 Tiagra Alex Rims Both in fairly good condition. These options for a heavier rider such as myself now at 112kg?? I may be wrong but I am looking at two considerations: 1. COMFORT 2. DURABILITY Comments/input appreciated. The idea is to build up my weekly mileage and for base training, as well as a few odd "races" amashova maybe even Argus.
  24. After two services and one repair, I have to give credit where credit is due. Awesome service from Concept Cyclery Waterfall. Each time I get the dreaded call expecting a huge bill I have been pleasantly surprised.
