  1. It been interesting using this thing for a while. Some tips in case anyone does get their hands on one. The Shockwhiz is only as accurate as your calibration. It seems like a mission, but you need to do this every time you change your settings. Don't expect to tweak your suspension settings and then carry on riding on the same session. Soon as you change air pressure or ramp (tokens) you need to start over - recalibrate and new session. If you change these 2 things and try carry on, the whole thing is out of whack. Sometimes it won't even read your subsequent rides. Calibrate, calibrate, calibrate. When it's all in the green, note down your settings. Also, bear in mind that you should do this for 2 or three tunes. You may well prefer "balanced" or "aggressive" or some other tune that it offers. Each one is essentially like starting over. When you're done calibrating, the thing picks up ride data really fast, so choose a short, varied, downhill section where you can ride back up. You don't have to go too far.
  2. They update the firmware of this thing faster than you change underpants. So make sure you get a recent version.
  3. What you're got to accept is that most shocks don't have all the adjustments. If you have a Reba with rebound and high speed compression, you'll only get so close. But you'll get as close as you can with that unit. I don't know anything about Brain shocks.
  4. Haven't worked it out yet. Thinking of R3/400 a day.
  5. I bought one. But I plan to rent it. But I'm in KZN.
  6. Yes it does, because the suspension is working much better. You have to choose your tune properly though. Some guys who ride hard complain that the Shockwizz recommends pressure that's too soft. For people who don't know how to set up a shock, it will be a huge help.
  7. Took me 2 rides to get everything in the green. They make it very easy. The challenge is finding a trail that can truly challenge the Whizz. Finding "big hits & drops" is harder than you think.
  8. Thanks for the tips. I'll pop into Solomons later, and I have brother in law returning from the UK in ten days. May hit up CRC.
  9. Its like a little pin & post that bridges the two side pieces. I must also note that its NOT a good idea to grab the piston end with your pliers...! Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to get a set of Hopes...
  10. Yes, you're right. With so much dirt in there, a small whack got it out. Turns out the little bar at the top of the plastic roller fitting had snapped. So I guess I'm in for a new brake lever unit. Any ideas where I can get one of these?
  11. Which way does no 5 come out? Upwards, or downwards though the black ring?... sorry, just saw the previous tips. Bottom up.... doesn't seem to budge.
  12. I thought as much. Last time I was climbing up to Bruisers Burn I noticed a sneaky little trail to the left.
  13. So which route is the Trailblazer now? Is it open to ride? I coudn't make it.
  14. For over R2000 a year lets hope so!
  15. There is not that much to maintain when comparing venues. It's more what you get for that money. At Holla you're riding on private farms. There are hardly any trail features. There is one proper berm at Holla for eg. So then I start asking what is that money actually for? When I go to Karkloof for example, I can ride amazing trail features till I puke, table tops, flow/berms, doubles, gaps etc etc. In my book Karkloof is an amazing deal. Holla is now a stand-out because you're paying 3 times the norm, and for very little else.
  16. But can you compare it aside from the money? Lifts, for a start. A Line... etc.
  17. I'm interested to see what riders pay, per annum and per day at various riding venues in South Africa. There seems to be a big difference in what you pay, and what you get for it. Money vs length of trail, trail features etc. What is the norm, and how much is too much? In my experience (KZN): Karkloof: R580 a year R50 per day. Giba: R960 a year R65 per day. Holla: R2197 a year R60 per day
  18. Flip, you're way ahead of me in the tech stakes. Thanks!
  19. After a crash one of the little tabs on the back of my Garmin snapped off. I see you can buy a repair kit for this - like the one below... It glues onto the existing stub and the new tabs underneath enable you to use the bar mount again. Can you get these in SA anywhere? I think it's just 3D printed.
  20. Seems like the thing to do is wait for second hand Pyga deals. There are some crackers.
  21. A S-works Camber is R130 000. How much is a tricked out Stage?
