  1. Willie Smit seems to be doing quite well
  2. The other thing that I dont like is that my position might not be a true reflection of result. Meaning I can get position number 1 for the race, but 10 non-PPA members could have finished before me.
  3. I understand that there needs to be an incentive, it just seems strange to do a race and then not get a result. What made it even more confusing was the fact that I always used to get my results on racetec without being a member. Anyway reading the info on the following link cleared up a lot of assumptions: http://www.pedalpower.org.za/index.php/join-now/become-a-member/faqs-on-membership/
  4. There are some lucky fish out there it seems. At least membership is not too much, so as of today I am a PPA member and will hopefully get my result for the tour the ppa on racetec. Sorry to all the peeps who will be moving one place down!
  5. What did the R120 race fee go for then? I will try and get PPA membership tomorrow (that section of their site is down). Hopefully it will be enough to get the results for the tour the ppa up on racetec.
  6. Last year I got my results on racetec without being a PPA member, dont know what has changed.
  7. Can someone please explain me how PPA membership works? I entered the 72km ride on race day and got a temp number. After the ride I could not find my results on racetec even though I wore my chip. I logged a query and they first indicated that I started in the wrong temp group (as far as I can recall there was only one temp group). When I queried this they said I did not get a result as I am not a PPA member. Do I understand this correctly that as a non PPA member you can enter a ride, but you wont get an official time on racetec? Another question is will I get a seeding if I enter before entries close?
  8. I normally swim with a club, but they only start again in a week's time. So here is a half an hour set I did during the holidays to keep myself from going completely bad: 3 x 200m warmup, 10sec rest between 6 x 100m free on 1:55, last length hard (I swim in a 25m pool) 6 x 50m free on 55sec, first length hard 6 x 25m free on 30sec, hard 100m loosen Total distance 1750m
  9. Glad I am not the only one who thought that!
  10. I have done some of the longer open water swims and Robben Island crossings and I never did the numbers you are hitting! But to add, I am more of a mid pack swimmer, you might be a top finisher with those distances
  11. I heard that he is focussing on Iron Man. He did participate in the BMT men's team.
  12. We are doing the challenge in trips, not looking forward to the beach run!
  13. I think the cheapie racks can take about 30kg. Maybe you can wrap you backpack over the rack and secure it with bungee cords?
  14. I did a tour last year using a backpack rather than panniers (which I normally use) and started regretting my decision after the first couple of hours. The backpack gets really uncomfortable after a while. Why make it harder on the body than it alreay is? Also, the bum does not like the extra kilos!
  15. Apart from better upper body and core strength, swimming is also great for improving lung capacity.
  16. Armstrong was apparently a very good swimmer in his younger days...
  17. I have one, but not too sure if I want to sell it as I use it every now and then. If you are in a real fix, contact me.

  20. Seems you are safe, I could not find any cold water swimming events out in Gauteng for tomorrow
  21. Just imagine the bragging rights at the next triathlon...
  22. Well, since it is the heritage day swim and SA has a proud cold water swimming tradition, it is time for you to give it a go?
  23. I did a fair amount of them last year. They were good fun. The real question is, wetsuit or not?
  24. I want one of those shirts!!
