  1. Proprietary hubs in general, I would think. Wreck 'em and then buy yourself a decent wheelset.

  3. They've got some pretty smooth style in that video. Cool movie.
  4. Pro tip: don't brake check an SUV when you're on a bike.
  5. There's going to be an angry mob here when they see the guy in green isn't wearing a helmet.
  6. Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
  7. What do you think? Now you're just scratching for reasons.
  8. Dude, read the argument I've put forward. I'm opposed to people yelling at a cyclist under all circumstances if they aren't wearing a helmet. If you're going to ride fast, ride downhill, ride skatepark and you don't wear a helmet then you're likely going to get hurt. But if I'm going to amble around Delta on a Sunday or on a slow ride to work then that's my discretion. My point is, stop getting so worked up at people that aren't wearing a helmet.
  9. The logical conclusion of your analogy then is that children in cars should have to wear safety helmets. Your argument isn't doing your point any good. You're talking about different vehicles, different speeds, different surfaces, different uses, different age groups. There is actually nothing in common between the two. Your argument is basically that children benefit from safety devices in cars therefore cyclists should wear helmets?
  10. A helmet on a bike for an adult riding casually in a park does not equate to a seatbelt for a child in a car on a road. Stop using this analogy, it's pointless.
  11. It's implying that they're asking a question. Helmet or anteater… circumcised or uncircumcised.
  12. If I ride along the Spruit sometime without a lid and someone yells 'HELMET' at me I'm yelling 'ANTEATER' back.
  13. Yeah, each time my kid does something wrong I'm going to blast her with a foghorn, bound to work way better than explaining things to her. You go out there and change the world, though, buddy. One impotent hoot at a time. I'll go back to the campaign I began working on with the DOT since last year.
  14. Well, none of those people now think they should change their driving style. They all went home thinking some a-hole hooted at them. You want to change something, start a campaign, think of something a little less slacktivism than hooting.
  15. Never said you should do nothing, rather try figure out a more persuasive approach. Yelling at people, like hooting, accomplishes nothing other than aggressively venting your own anger.
  16. Because when you hoot at someone, they immediately think "Oh, damn, my bad, I really should drive a lot better, thanks buddy!". The natural human reaction is to become obnoxious and you're going to get the same result from yelling at people with no helmet. You're really only venting your own frustration, not trying to improve the situation.
  17. It's kind of my point, though. I can think of only a handful of occasions where I haven't worn a helmet, I'm not advocating not using a helmet, I'm just arguing that if it's in a park that doesn't stipulate it, that you know what you're doing and you're riding completely casually then why should other people be so put out that they have to yell 'HELMET' at you. I think that's a bit of a tonsil move.
  18. Exactly.
  19. Runners frequently break 10kph, I think they should wear helmets as well. Also, the risk of drowning in swimming is extremely high, far higher than when not swimming, I propose mandatory waterwings for all swimmers. The reduction in comfort or function shouldn't overrule the need for safety.
  20. I don't know why you have to get into ad hominem attacks on the type of people that don't wear helmets. Perhaps you could try offer a more persuasive argument rather than insulting people that have a differing view. You may have treated lots of injured people, how many of them were cyclists not wearing helmets? Your evidence there is anecdotal at best anyway. As for seatbelts, different issue, seatbelt safety has no correlation with helmets so I'm not sure why you're bringing it up. Anyway, seatbelts have been proven to save lives and wearing them is enforced by law. I'd like to believe that we're not yet a nanny state and that wearing a helmet is at my discretion (when not a condition of using the park) based on the type of riding I'm planning to do. Like one poster said earlier, a friend of his didn't wear a helmet and stopped riding because of the abuse he received. That correlates with evidence that has shown enforced helmet use has led to a reduction in cyclists and has had no effect on the proportional number of injuries.
  21. Huh? You're concerned about the burden on medical aids and taxpayers? Maybe take up power walking, less chance of you inconveniencing your fellow citizens by breaking your arm on your bike. I seriously can't see why this bugs other people, I need to hear a better argument than that. Look, if you're going to pin it through Delta and jump the table top, etc, without a helmet then I get your point. If you're taking a casual Sunday ride then I don't see what the problem is.
  22. Why does it bother you guys if someone doesn't wear a helmet on a spruit amble?
  23. Really? It's a line item on your bill? Sorry, guys, this image was just a joke for some other blokes who had their order coupled with mine.
  24. Seems rather strange to be incurring additional fees? http://i.imgur.com/kcLmz2w.jpg
  25. Like it says on the can, anybody know of any? A mate of mine is looking to get into it down there but wants to try it out first before the back break of building his own. I know of Swells, don't know if it's still there, though. Any others, particularly in Hilton?
