  1. I concur, Sir. After back-to-back 100 km rides over the weekend, I am seriously impressed with the vast improvement over my previous, much more expensive, saddle. Now to save up to replace the saddles on my other two bikes... Saddles are personal, but I think this works for me.
  2. Thanks for the info. It is because of all the choices that I have turned to the knowledgeable Hub! I guess you will only really know if a vest suits you after you have run with it for a few km's - and by then it is too late to change your mind. I will have a close look at the brands and models you have mentioned, i.e. UltrAspire, Osprey and Camelback.
  3. What are you guys do in terms of hydration on training runs? I am looking for a way to carry about 1.5L of water for up to a three hour run. Are you using a race vests or hydration belt system? Which make and model is working for you? Maximum comfort, with minimum/no bouncing, is non-negotiable. Thanks.
  4. No, I think the 2000km interval is being too conservative. That would have been 5 services a year for me also, and I found 2 are more than enough. But then I mostly stick to tar when using the PowerTap.
  5. The PowerTap hub needs to be serviced like any other hub, but it has to be done at CycleOps because after the service the hub needs to be re-calibrated again. This is a quote from an email conversation I had with a guy from Bicycle Trading before I bought mine (two years ago): Service intervals all depends on the conditions you ride in, normally every 2000km if one rides on dry conditions, and depending on how often you ride in wet conditions this can vary wheel to wheel. If one can feel the bearings are rough then we normally recommend have the wheel serviced from us. Service cost is a flat R750 ( 4 x bearings, 4 x O-rings, 1 x seal, 2 x Silver oxide batteries, re-calibration)
  6. And don't forget the cost of servicing the PowerTap. I am spending R1000+ (including courier cost) twice a year on maintenance of PowerTap. Nothing like that for Stages.
  7. Hi there. I was wondering about this "planting according to the phase of the moon" thing. A few people (including a farmer) has mentioned it to me in the past and I have also read about it in vegetable gardening books. Basically you must plant during the waxing phase of the moon and definitely no planting during the last quarter etc etc. Anybody following this advice and do you actually found that it makes a difference?
  8. The mayo looks delicious and nutritionally much safer than the veg oil based ones from supermarkets. Just a word of caution from somebody working in the poultry industry. Salmonella is a reality out there. Be careful of raw eggs (especially if you like the free range versions! ).
  9. I had severe pain in both my feet that also developed only after years of cycling. My feet/toe pain/cramps were caused by irritation of the nerves that run through the balls of the feet (possible that this can only start after a while of riding - something like an overuse injury...). A sport doctor advised me to insert an extra inner (any old one) with a hole cut out underneath the ball of your foot. Gives more room for the nerve. Leave a bit of inner under the bridge for extra support. I cut some extra pieces out (side of foot, underneath the big toe) to give extra room at those places (shoe was too tight there). Go for a trial & error approach here. It works like a charm. I have been riding with these extra inners for two years now without any foot problems. See picture: the black one fits underneath the blue one. I am using the same in Specialized and SIDI shoes. inners.bmp
  10. Thank you, htone. Don't think I'll ever go the extreme route, definitely not long term. You need the fibre for a healthy gut.
  11. Hi Everybody My first time on - great discussion you have here! Just a quick question: Do the carb values (grams) that you guys are using, include dietary fibre(in other words, do you count TOTAL carbs) or do you refer to carbs minus dietary fibre. If you want to take in at least 20-35g of daily dietary fibre (as recommended), and fibre is included in the carb values, it will be quite a challenge to keep daily carbs below say a 100g or lower (even if most of your carbs comes from veggies). My apologies if this was already discussed - I have to confess, I did not read everything in this forum.
