  1. How do finances flow from clubs to provincial bodies and on to the CSA? Do the clubs have to pay a levy/fee to CGC?
  2. Hi Mallo, how you doing? I agree with you and that is why I am happy to pay an "affiliation fee" to CGC and that National Body. Do some of the club joining fees go to the CSA or CGC? If not, then joining a club has no direct financial benefit to the governing bodies/structures.
  3. Did not realise there was a monetary limit to what could we discuss on the web. And I will contribute willingly, just not a clubs coffers.
  4. You guys are missing the point still/again. I'm happy to give money to CSA and the provincial body, but being forced into joining a club is not acceptable to me.
  5. Anyone know what a urs is?
  6. Quantam, if you want to follow the masses, please go ahead!! And I think the comment Delgado made is he would rather fail than blindly accept any crap thrown his way, you obviously like the taste of crap and enjoy blindly accepting...
  7. FOR FFS IT'S NOT THE MONEY!!! It's the principle. I already have a group I ride, already have my own kit, so why would I want to join a club??
  8. unless things have changed in the past few months then i think that you should take out a "cyclosport license" as you don't have to belong to a club to do this. u can download it from the CSA website. Things have changed - I downloaded the CSA posting/letter concerning licences and have condensed it into the following few paragraphs - (Bold, Italic and underline are all by me) "Events run under UCI regulation will, as usual, require an Elite Licence. For all other events (apart from minor "om-die-kerk" events) entrants (who do not have an Elite or Development Licence) will require to have either an existing Cyclo-Sport Licence or the new CSA Recreational Licence. Cyclo-Sport Licences will continue to be in the same form; a Licence card will be issued and licence holders will continue to be required to be a member of a club or a member of Pedal Power Association. The price for a Cyclo-Sport Licence with effect from 1 January 2008 is likely to be set at R100,00. The CSA Recreational Licence will be an alternative to the Cyclo-Sport Licence and, as its name implies, is intended for recreational cyclists who are not really interested in competition. It will be cheaper and no licence card will be issued initially but it will still be a requirement that the licence holder must be a member of a club or of Pedal Power Association. Cyclists who do not wish to join PPA or a club affiliated to a Province, may not take out an annual CSA Recreational Licence but will have to take out a single event CSA Recreational Licence commonly known as "a day licence Please note also that Provinces have the power, notwithstanding the new licence system, to regulate that any particular Event will not be open to a cyclist holding a CSA Recreational Licence and they may stipulate, for example, that a Cyclo-Sport Licence is a minimum requirement. This is a unique moment in the history of our sport in <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />South Africaon> and we look forward to the co-operation and assistance of all Provinces and Clubs as well as Events, both large and small, all of whom stand to benefit from the new licensing system, in the long term. In future, no Events will be placed on the CSA calendar unless the Event Organisers undertake to comply with the new licensing system." <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />I like how clubs, provinces and Events all stand to benefit but nothing for the cyclists. Now we know why you HAVE to be a club member.
  9. The problem is not the paying of the licence fee and/or CSA licence fees - that I am happy to do. What irks me is being forced to join a club and pay even more fees in the form of club joining fees and kit fees etc etc on top of that????? I'M HAPPY TO PAY FOR A LICENCE BUT NOT TO JOIN A CLUB!!!
  10. Campag Compact & 12/25 cluster. Why, I have found that compact is way easier on the knees and makes climbing a breeze in comparison to a standard setup. Triple just looks like a pain to setup and maintain.
  11. Could be a blessing in disguise.
  12. Different club - The Juicers - now that sounds like a "real" cycling club.
  13. Will the runners also be able to get popcorn....
  14. And are they affiliated with the IPU?
  15. Amen to that Brother, you hit the nail on the head!!
  16. It SUCKS!! I'm happy to contribute towards the cycling bodies but being forced to belong to a club irks me.
  17. Thug: Will be best to park at the Panorama Shopping centre on Kliprivier and cycle down to the intersection. Loads of cyclists park there and is quite safe.
  18. Where you meeting, by the Twiki?
  19. 8K, You have got to be sh*tting me!! I would rather take that money and go do the Tour de Mauritius. At least there you are unlikely to encounter the surly, holier-than-thou attitude of the people that 'work', and I use the term lightly, in the the service industry in cape town. You will also get value for money and not be forced to pay inflated prices for everything because there is a cycling event in town and it's a good time to fleece the visitors.
  20. I thought Sheryl was the singer?
  21. DUH!! How doff of me, and here I am thinking he was a singer.
  22. Why would they get an astronaut to start a bike race?
  23. Cool, I'm in. Will check with the rest of G.S. Adf P.B.C.
  24. Where are we leaving from on Sunday, what time and where the hell are we going? Who else is riding PeeWee?
