  1. Should always ask your dealer if the shoes are "crash ready"
  2. I would even be insulting hipsters if I said this looks like a Hipster bicycle, but I guess it's missing the basket on the bars for the organic vegetables and polaroid camera
  3. Eish that's the fastest way to destroy tread on a MTB tyre... I would say it's okay if they have hybrid tyres or slicks as MTB can be useful for all those potholes and bumpy roads in some places. (Road bikes don't have the awesome power of shock absorption)
  4. Haha that might get confusing, SA has too many colours Cool, that is a bit closer to home, will check them out and maybe get what I'm looking for quicker and save a buck too Anything battery driven is a pain in the @ss lol. Yeah, saw: http://dialdbikes.co.za/dartmoor-spokes.html and; http://dialdbikes.co.za/dartmoor-nipples.html Just bought my rims from CWC! Just by chance I was looking at their homepage and saw the ZTR Flow EX rims for R950 each which saves me R300-R500 excl shipping which isn't bad at all.
  5. Lol what??? No hablo ingles
  6. Diesel or Paraffin > Petrol as it not only cleans your chain very effectively, but also leaves behind a residue that acts as a lubricant yeah. Just keep it simple. No need to spend lots of money on all these "professional" cleaning agents that promise to do a better job when diesel or paraffin already prove their worth.
  7. Ah thanks Sam. I must just find out the exact length of spoke that I need as my wheels to be are the Stans ZTR Flow EX 29'ers with my current front Scott Team Disc CL and rear Shimano FH-RM66 Disc CL hubs.
  8. Hey guys, So I'm in the process of getting my new rims from the stockist in PE and want to do a custom color setup on my wheels. Since I'm ½ Portuguese, I want to get red spokes with green nipples, or vice versa depending on what's available. Anyone know of someone local who has these or will I have to resort to importing them?
  9. lol dude that sounds like a circular saw in a carpenter's workshop
  10. Wow, never expected such a large turnout of replies. Thanks guys. Okay so what I gather is that they are those hubs that make the great clicking sound and are made by detail-conscious poms who want a fire-and-forget solution for the wheelset And in many ways its an "Audi or BMW" sort of preference, whereby some other hubs are just as good, otherwise better or worse in some ways or another? Just FYI, I'm getting the Stans ZTR Flow EX rims which I've heard are pretty much bomb-proof - something I need with my level of trail aggression lol... If my Shimano hubs fail their job, Hope might step up, but I'll do a bit of research hmm
  11. Hey guys, I'm gonna get a wheelset built for me and wanted to know something... Looking at rims, spokes, nipples, hubs and all that, I noticed that there seems to be a rave about Hope hubs and wanted to know what that's all about? My current Shimano hubs have never failed me, even when my rims themselves are buckled to high heaven. Besides working properly (or so I think), am I missing out on some kind of mind-blowing performance of a premium hub? Or is it just a brand name, with some too-fancy engineering that adds moderate performance and weighing close to nothing?
  12. True, they never fenced it up, but I only received notification from them after being made to feel like a criminal encroaching on private land after enjoying that trail with friend and coworkers for some time. Surely there were some talks that happened prior to the fencing up, such as a public participation meeting whereby someone (a member or a committee member of TBMTBC) were privy to information of what was going to happen.
  13. I'm probably not going to renew my 2014 membership for two reasons: I don't use the durbanville/contermanskloof trails often enough to justify the annual expense, and; When Majik Forest was fenced up, there was no early warning or notice and expected TBMTBC to cover the expense of the scanner since this is one of the more accessible trails to its members. With reference to point number two I was actually locked in and had to make a dangerous re-route up the downhill section of the narrow forest trail, nearly crashing into someone.

  15. Hmm, haven't had a look at those brands yet. They allow for XC racing? And yeah, someone I know raised the question that, although my rims are destroyed, why can't I just buy new rims and reuse my existing hubs since they haven't been giving me any trouble. You said it though, I need to find a good wheel man. Probably just as hard as finding a decent mechanic for my car and I've been through a dozen lol
  16. Hi guys, I've been looking at my options and it seems that I have an "expensive taste" for wheels. I'm primarily a XC / trail rider, but like to do a bit of all-mountain every now and again. My riding style is aggressive, so even during XC races I'm klapping the downhills like a bit of a mad man and as a result my current rims have taken a major beating, one of which is damaged beyond repair. Here is my question: Considering the prices of wheelsets like the Stans ZTR Arch EX, am I better off just buying whatever I can land at a stockist, or should I buy the rims, spokes and hubs separate and have them assembled? The wheelset is around R7.5k, whereas the rims I can get for R900 each. Will I be saving any money going the long route with assembling the wheels and doing a custom job? And do I perhaps run the risk of getting a badly assembled wheel? Or should I just go for a factory assembled standard wheelset? So many questions...

  18. Remove cars, taxis and motorcycles and I will happily commute to work every day. Too dangerous otherwise. How awesome would it be cruising the middle or fast lane in an echelon on the N1 before settling down for work?
  19. I'm still wiping the tears after watching this video twice, so funny
  20. I've been too busy working to follow the threads and saw no active topics being discussed on this. Don't want to put a little more emotion into your reply?

  22. Gone from averaging 100km's a week (including a weekend race) to 0, zip, nada, nothing. Picking up some much bloody weight and becoming unfit as all hell. Dreading the day I actually get back on the bike and find out what the damage is. On the plus side, it's great watching series, eating popcorn, drinking hot chocolate and being a couch potato when its pouring and galeforce winds outside
  23. At least he was wearing shoes. A Cyclist should never go about his sport barefoot
  24. Damn you 5FM for making this stick in my head. Don't even know what she's saying
