  1. I weigh 52kg (1.68 tall), and eat two thirds carbs at EVERY meal and drink 4 cups coffee/tea a day with 3 sugars per cup, my weight has been stable at between 49kg and 55kg for 10years!... getting tired of this carbs = evil twak. The reason a person puts on weight is typically bad choices, the reason they struggle to lose weight is body type, if your body type is the type that you struggle to lose weight then any product you use will be unsustainable weight loss, you need to do endurance exercise at least once a week (runs over 90min, rides over 4 hours, swims over 60min) over and above daily activity of approx 1 hour while eating well FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE if you want to lose the weight & keep it off.
  2. If you are unfit/not running fit plan 3 walking breaks to split up the hill, at roughly 1km apart, walk for a minute at each, you'll survive. Expect to add upto 15 minutes onto a reasonable flat half marathon time.
  3. There is a shuttle service, but I would only rely on it for afterwards, before best you warmup jog to the start... not used the shuttle before (live 2km from start) but know traffic gets MAL before, cause everyone is trying to drop off or park at the start line, not worth the risk.
  4. http://www.twooceans...ans_parking.jpg Aim to be in your start pen 45 min before, 30min before it starts to get really crowded, really quickly, take black bag to keep warm, can be pretty chilly while you wait. EDIT: BTW that green line on the map is the Jammie Shuttle bus route, chartered for the day.
  5. You don't really need to taper for a half, next to zero physiological benefit (unless you are near the top of the field), just cut your long run this weekend by half, and ditch your run 2 days before (make Thursday a rest day), and only run around 3km on Friday at intended race pace. Do everything else as per the usual.
  6. Exactly, but can you imagine how the motorists will cry if they don't. SA motorists don't seem to understand that riding in the yellow line is a courtesy, not an obligation.
  7. This applies to when riding in the carriage way, that is if the riders were on the roadside of the yellow line they are legally obligated to ride in single file unless overtaking. The road shoulder is not considered part of the roadway.
  8. The only reason those yellow lines aren't barrier kerbs is that hitting a barrier kerb at 120km/h has the nasty habit of flipping light motor vehicles.
  9. Another way to look at it is if it was two mountain bikers riding abreast on an unpaved road shoulder, should they ride in single file?
  10. according to the tracker Heyns & Beukes and Lill & Woolcock hanging out in a parking lot???

Some people are just not made for cycling, shaved 55min off last year's time and still rode a less than respectable time
  12. Thanks Frail, good to have met you
  13. In the driver's statement he mentions the cyclists getting into the van and very quickly getting out again because of the residual pepper spray in the van...
  14. Below quoted from a Wikipedia article on crowd psychology: I think the mistake all the "there must have been something that ticked them off" proponents are making is in assuming that all those involved were reasonable persons - the above theory would indicate that at least one was not.
  15. And why hasn't she read any of the relevant commentary we have so kindly provided her with???
  16. few pages pack, tumbles posted news clip from Argus/IOL
  17. Every single one of these guys, apart from the legal/criminal recourse that is due them, should be ID'd and handed a lifetime ban from the sport of cycling for bringing the sport into disrepute. They have done irreparable damage. More disgusting than the actions of the guys who threw the punches, is the guys in the group who didn't and who weren't man enough to stand up against the violence and do something or stop their friends.
  18. Solved! I will undertake to ride in my bikini for improved personal safety

Thanks, I'm aware that it is essentially unseeded. It's still called a seeding group none-the-less. Did last years argus in a trainwreck time (like I alluded to, I was a really rubbish rider then), but that is the only seeding event that doesn't give you a free pass into XX, YY or ZZ irrespective of time. I'm griping about the calculation of the bit after the "or".

Ag, just one or two of the rides (short routes) where I worked really hard and got screwed over by them thumb sucking a winners time, plus the penalty and then applying a beta of room temperature... got a worse seeding this year than last despite the fact that I am a much better rider, and have actually worked pretty hard.

Fear of ridicule? Try on PA for size...

My intense hatred and loathing of PPA and Racetec's not so mathematically nor statistically sound result manipulation for seeding is further re-entrenched
  23. Well done! This has been something I have been keen on doing for a number of years now, may just join you in 2015...bit of a pricey trip from Cape Town for Just one mile, may as well split the costs amongst 8

  25. My daughter's paternal grandmother; as I am not married to her father, my daughter's paternal grandmother is neither my mother nor my mother in-law, the totality of her connection to me is that she is my daughter's grandmother. Welcome to the muddy waters of non-nuclear family types
