  1. Here's a range of colours from stuff I'm working with at the moment. I find the smell really evocative as it reminds me of growing up and working with my grandfather who was a joiner but it's not for everyone. I was having some re-sawn in France a few years back and after some persuading of the local joiners to use their bandsaw to do it, they work oak and chestnut mostly, things got going. They were a dour pair and deeply suspicious of new timber and what it would do to their kit, started off very gently, much sniffing, look at me and say "It smells like ass" and then carried on, not much conversation after that.

  3. Actually pretty sure there are some rotting old versions of that around by the private hangers at Antananarivo airport, or certainly were a few years back. Maybe that's where the inspiration comes from. Seen the wreckage of a few around the eastern DRC as well.

  8. Its all in the curves, to get the deceptively simple look plus comfort is a series of complex and deep curves, think I've cracked it after a bit of re-working.
  9. Thanks man!
  10. Some modifications/improvements made and have now routed templates for the main bits. Also designing a folding foot stool to go with, now getting some heavy kiaat that's been following me around Africa for about 20 years re-sawn, then can get into production.
  11. Got talked into making some Adirondack chairs for the house, haven't done much woodwork for quite a few years and a bit rusty. Just getting the plans from A4 pdf's up to working plans took me back to digging out old drafting french curves and scale rules I hadn't used for years, was quite nice to go analogue again. Built up a prototype with a motley selection of teaks and merantis I had lurking around at roughly the right thickness.
