  1. Another cyclist was jacked in this area. I do not have the specifics since I got the news second hand. It sounds to me like the same two perps (except I think there were three this time.) and it also sounds to me like it happened in the vacinity of the steps. There is a rumour doing the rounds that a Bike shop in Boksburg is buying the bikes, thereby creating a market for our stolen and jacked bikes.
  2. There is a group that rides from Meyersdal Steers at 5 each morning during the week. On the weekends I understand that some chaps go around the loop earlier than the usual 7 am start. Then they come back for a second lap and lazy @ssed idjits like me jump on the second bus that leaves at 7.
  3. I have no problem accessing the results.
  4. I thought this whole debate was a way to collectively come up woth some ideas. Apparently I am too doff and too wound up.
  5. Spider Dude, I am past 40 already so being highly strung I guess I am in my bonus years. I can die a happy chappy is I can crack my planned 3hr WFC on Sunday. Then hang up my bike and go and play with the kids my own age. Bowls is a lot less stressful than cycling although it has a high mortality rate. What I was saying, and here I agree with Eldron, is that in a perfect world, the live and let live philosophy is cool. In the real world though, it just doesn't work. There is more than enough anarchy in SA as it is. leaving things be is just going to allow it to get worse. Like our fellow hubber Eldron, I have stated my case and probably overstayed my welcome. I am outa here. I might just upset some okes and there fathers in law and get m03red for it. Have fun children. Play nice. If I can find that thing I had on why not to "flip the bird at women in traffic" I will post it as a rather clever reason why we should not use this modern digital language under any circumstances. In a two horse race agains steel, we should be the more patient of the road users for very obvious reasons. And if the motorist do take a chill pill as you suggest, more cyclists will abuse their good naturedness and be even more toopid on the road. 'K, I'm all done now.
  6. Spiinekop, FWIW dude, you are advocating that we just chill and allow people to do as they please. That's the reason why traffic and crime and all sortsof things are out of control. Like letting the taxi push in from the emergency lane and further delaying everyone else in the traffic. Laws are put in place mainly to prevent the degeneration of society onto the state of anarchy it is currently in. Leaving the cyclists be is just going to firther agravate the situation. The law applies to us all and we should all obey it, mainly for our own personal safety. Very simple. Like you said, wrong is wrong and it aggravates me no end when people zip down the emergency lane (illegal) and then force their way into the traffic. It sucks man. It makes me late for meetings and appointments. It makes you late for meetings and appointments. It screws up anybody's day. Same junk with cyclists. Why should society at large, just sit back and ay, well let's all just chill because they are there and they aren't going to go away. NO. We all need to have respect for the rule of law and we all need to have mutual respect and consideration for each other. other people also have stuff to do and places to go. So why the h3ll should they have to rearrange their lives to wait for us to finish cycling. In my opinion, it's hugely inconsiderate to even suggest it.
  7. Enter BigBen, our resident "voice of reason." Sorry dude, apparently I wasn't thinking when I posted that. I forgot about you.
  8. Eldron, that is earth shattering simplicty that will be effective. Some just cannot grasp this simple truth though. Leastwise not untill they work on their attitude. Being courteous is the correct attitude of course. Being an arrogant piilock is not. Courtesy implies tollerance and being sensible. It appears this commodity is in short supply in some quarters.
  9. Cradlecyclist, might I suggest that you approach this topic with a little more sensitivity and a better attitude. Inflamatory remarks will not solve the problem. Clear thinking and reasonable intelect will. This is not about who will tollerate what, it is about solving a problem. As a cyclist and motorist, I see both sides here and cearly, there are a lot of cyclists who not only balatantly disregard the rules of the road, they also have a *** houding. It worries me that if some people ride their bikes like chops, then they probably drive their cars in pretty much the same manner. Let's leave the spilt milk and look for solutions. Neither party own the roads but I do believe that certain people have greater rghts to be there if you can grasp that concept. Residents live there. A lot of cyclists drive somewhere close and the ride there. If we analsys that for a sec, then the residents have greater rights to be there and why should they have to rearrange their lives because some dick-on-a-bike thinks he owns the road and has a bad attitude? But this is not about rights, it about common sense safety. Riding at 65 km down a hill does not engender the notion of someone concerened for his personal safety. He puts himself at risk by doing this so is he intolllerant of his own behaviour? He should be. The rule of the road is for slower moving vehicles to keep left. And if conditions are not conducive to ride at that speed in safety, then I'm afraid to say,I think the person concerned is just another arrogant tosser on a bike and deserves whatever comes down. Just suppose someone dies as a result of not being able to get medical treatment on time because someone on a bike is more concerned with their own enjoyment and not interested in the emergency in the vehicle that needs to pass, but is instead, forced to wait. Personally, I think you are obsessed with your own ego and enjoyment and have forgotten that we all need to share the roads in harmony. Antagonising the motoring fraternity is not the best way to do this.
  10. Perhaos it is because of all the criminals. Crime starts with getting away with something small and escaltes. Breaking the rules of the road may be petty crime but this sort of attitude will perpetuate the propblem. I suggest you adjust your houding and help solve the problem. Not throw more fuel on the fire.
  11. Done 2. 1st one 2001 in 3hr33 2nd one 2007 in 4hr 33 3rd one coming up. Target time 3hrs or bust.
  12. Shebeen I agree with you. Cant say the same for Coenie though. Apparently (and this is just my interpretationof Coenies comment) it is ok for cyclists to do illegal sh*t. Everyone else must just chill and ignore it while these chops abuse the roads and turn a blind eye to the law being broken. Is this not why we have such a huge problem with crime in this country? Screw that. The rule of law is being broken and the chops will keep doing it until they are held accountable. Cradleresident, you go for it. Name and shame these idjits. It is time we all started being faithful to all the rules of the road. Not just to be polite and clean up our act, but for our own personal safety. Is that such a difficult concept to understand? Then everyone will be less tense and more tolerant with one another. We are all accountable for our behaviour and only have control over ourselves. Start with the man / woman in the mirror. That is the only one you have control over. Sommer start with that attitude Coenie and other who have a *** houding.
  13. Agree Charvel. Wonder if Ken is one of those who is actually "inviting" someone to park a prod in his posterior? Seriously though, this is one value that if exercised by all, would make the entire world a better place.
  14. Mampara, the problem today as succinctly put by Eldron is that generally, most people today have that "*** jou houding". Both motorists and cyclists alike. Even pedestrians seem to be playing with their sick leave by walking in the road as if almost daring a motorist to run them over. Since when is someone one foot allowed to pull a cart of sorts piled high with all sorts of junk picked up. And then Metro drive by without so much as telling the fool to remove himself from the highway. Chances are if they did, said fool would tell Metro where to go. Such things as manners and commn decency seem to be very much in decline these days and as for moral standards, well, let's leave that for another debate / thread. Suffice to say, we all think we are "entitled" and srew anyone and everyone else. Some day, someones gonna get a hurtin' from that attitude. Really, our attitudes suck and it is going to cost us one day. Are we wiling to pay the price?
  15. Not the first time this very contentious issue has been raised. For what it's worth, my take on the matter is this: The road infrastructure in SA is inadequate on all fronts. There are too many cars for the roads in their current state. Result overcrowded roads leading to huge frustration. There are way to few dedicated bicycle lanes for cyclists to ride in safety. And then we have the attitude problem. Strange how the attitude seems to come mainly from those who are actually the biggest rule transgressors. I can understand the frustrations from all sides, but understanding the attitudes of some escapes me. We are all our own biggest enemies. Motorists and cyclist alike and forebearance and tollerance will go a long way to alleviating a lot of frustration. This implies and act of consideration on both sides. Motorists and cyclists alike. We will get nowhere by hurling bricks at one another. Yesterday mornng, I was apalled by the behaviour with the bunch I set out to ride with. At a new traffic light in our area, almost the whole bunch went right through a red light, forcing a motorist to wait at a greeen light for these fooligans to complete their illegal move, I think we the cyclists are mostly on the wrong here. Guys, this is just not good enough and we have to clean house. Seriously, look at your behaviour and contemplate the simple fact that 100 kg of flesh and bone will always come a very dstant second against a car, truck or bus. Ride as though your life hangs in the balance because trust me, it DOES. Argue all you like as to whether or not we have a right to use the road. But do you have the right to abuse it? Stop being a bunch of @rseholes and obey the rules, Never mind what others are doing. It is irrelevant. Cradle resident, I hope that this situation can be resolved. I truly do. I live out south so the issue of the cradle does not affect me, but the general theme and bahaviour of many cyclists does have an impacrt on me. The tossers ride like they own the roads out here too and one day it will cause a huge problem. Like when someone gets killed because someone lost their temper. It will be too late then. Adjust what you can now, before that sad event happens. We have no control over what others do, only what we do and our attitude towards the whole issue of consideration and sharing. NONE of us have exlusivty over the roads and the law applies to us all equally. Are you doing your part to be sure you are on the right side of the law? Think about it. Contemplate the consequences or count the cost. That cost is too high for me.
  16. I have had mine for over twenty years. I think I will shave it off for November.
  17. Magnum PI is so like yesterday. The chicks are hot for Brad Spit nowadays and he doesn't have a hairy lip. Nother thing, you okes ar egonna look helluva funny with hairly lips and hairless legs. BWaaaaaahahahahahahahahah.
  18. Too true Mux. It is not a place for novices and sissies. The climbs are tough and the descents even tougher. No room for error on that twisty downhill section and the smallest mistake can result in heaps of pain.
  19. That section is wicked. Adverse cambers on some corners and a very steep decsent. Hope she makes a full recovery. Was also there on Sunday and didn't see the crash.
  20. Would that be the Olifants backpack trail? I have heard great things about it.

In these arms tnight - Bon Jovi The mans too strong - Dire straits. The Eloise Concerto The Wizard - Uriah Heep Highway Star - Deep Purple Someday - Michael Learns to Rock. Lady - Styx. Headlong - Queen Easy Living - Uriah Heep. Stiletto - Billy Joel. Rock n Roll Dreams - Jim Steinman PAradise by the dashboard Light - Meatloaf. Now you all know how old I am.
