  1. Cool idea. Maybe we should have admin give a reliable rating factor. On another forum I am a member of, "rank" is gained by the number of votes you get based on the quality of your posts. Poeple vote for you if you have something valuable to contribute to the hub. So instead o fbeing an ultimate hubber because you posted 10000 useless posts, you could be ranked according to a voting criteria and one of those could be trustworthyness involving deals you have concluded on the hub. That way we can see who we have to exercise caution with and who is relaible. There are still risks though. You will never negate them all. Only reduce them. BEware though of the hubber who does a lot of small deals and then suddenly has something huge on offer. It could be a scam. End of the day, protect yourself. It is your repsonsibility.
  2. For what it'sworth, you could end up with a lot of crud being posted just to get post counts up. You will always have chancers who will lurk around places like this to find someone to rip-off. Don't think it will help. Really, it is very simple to rip someone off over an internet transaction. The risk is big. Standard rule of thumb should be: Do you trust the other party enough? Newby? Beware. Established hubber? Does he /she have a reputation? Can they be trusted? YEs? Go for it. No? Stay away. You all know the risks and this is a high risk transaction. Protect yourself. Poluting the hub with stoopid posts wont negate the risk. Do the business sensibly and understand the risks. Simple. We aren't all crooks, but you don't know who is until you get ripped. Use a condom (I mean protection.)
  3. Er Taz. Not sure I like to compete for Nance's affections dude? I loose every time. We can take it in turns to sit at the back. Maybe WW will feel sorry for us and make it four. Double "date".
  4. Dude, you do not need to loose weight to be competitive. You need to train. I was 100 kg at 191 cm. Lost 15kg so now down to 85 at 191 cm.
  5. So, Ox, I won't even be able to wheelsuck The Thug huh? Bliksem dude, you need to invite more slow okes to keep me company. Dude. Cabinet has not discussed the matter yet but I have little doubt that approval will be forthcoming. (See, I even race at home and come second in a two - horse race, ALL THE TIME.) Flip and then we got E P O there as well. Going to be two groups. Those who can and those who can't. Hey Nance. Looks like we'll be keeping each other comapny again.
  6. Different people will react to donations differently and recover at different rates. You, yourself will find that sometimes it affects you differently to other times. Since blood donation (and I am assumng whole blood, or a pint of red blood) takes away some of the Heamoglobin or red cells, it affects your body's ability to transport oxygen to you rmuscles which will be working during exercise and therefore need more oxygen. You will no doubt feel "flat" or tired. I used to donate blood and found that it could affect me for up to two weeks afterwards. When I made the connection to feeling flat and donating blood, I stopped donating blood until I stopped running. Then when I started running again, I became a platelet donor. There was little noticeable adverse effect after donating platelets and plasma as opposed to donating whole blood. You will probably feel tired during even a short race, so I suggest you look to taking it easy, or changing your donation pattern so that you donate at leats two weeks before an event to give yourself enouugh time to recover. BTW. I think blood donor are cool people.
  7. Are you one of those "naturals" that don't have to train? I be one of those who have to train for any distance on a bike. Not so lucky that I have talent. It's all work.
  8. Glad I could help. Remember, the derailer will move as far as the cable pulls it (or allows it to relax) by the amount of cable take up or release by the shifter. The shifter is calibrated to move the amount of cable according to the gap between the gears / cogs on the cassette. Shiman have a certain gap and Campy have a certain gap. The derailer merely follows an instruction communicated by the cable movement.
  9. Flowta, I have put a campy derailer on a shimano equiped bike and it works perfectly. As long as the cassette and the shifters are the same (either both campy, or both Shimano) it will work. The derailer takes its movement distance from the shifter and shift according to the amount of cable movement. Experience wise, as long as the cassette and shifter are a matching set, there is no problem.
  10. Thanks BB. Since my trip into the SBR the other day, I am not keen on changing my 42 to a 39. (One kick in Gonads.) If anything, I find the change down from 52 to 42 to be too big as it is. Even running 11 / 22 at the back, 42 is a bit fast for me. (It was a bit of a gring going through SBR on that ratio, but I managed.) 39 will be even faster. My big problem is leg speed. Dem tings is super slow.
  11. Wouldn't you also need the campy rear derailleur too? Can't you just get another 9 speed cassette? You should not have to change the derailer. For asthetic purposes,it will look better if you have matching components, but it is not necessary. The derailer will move as far as the STI / Ergo lever makes it move. Zatek, based on the above arimentic, the answer is clear. Cheaper to go the campy route and many will tell you it's a better option. Just remember if you change to campy, you have to change your freehub as well.
  12. BB. not at the time, but now I have access to a spare crank set with shorter cranks (170mm) with 53 / 39 blades. What I'm scheming is to change my 52 blade to the 53 and rather keep the 42 than change to a 39 and possibly going to shorter cranks. Logic says that it will take more leg power to drive a shorter crank, but I should be able to go faster. (Based on the practice of pushing a merry go round as a kid, we got it to go faster by pushing in the middle.) Just an idea I'm playing around with.
  13. Yep, as always, I'm confused again (Still) Some time back a fella rider said I should run 180 cranks for my height. Currently running 175's. What is a good rule of thumb for working out what crank length is best?
  14. No. Tried that some time ago with an eight speed conversion. The two were not ccompatible.
  15. Now ideally, I would like a triple chain ring up front. 53t 48t and 42t. I find that 42 just too much of a jump up in leg speed from the 52t. The 22 is just a tad small with a 42. I have to stand up to do a really steep cimb and it hurts my back. Ain't no way, I would consider less than the 42 though. I like it. Thanks Os. I have one of those links to the gear calculators, it just calculates speed in aech gear according to cadence, and gera ratio. Quite cool actually.
  16. I'm foncused, How come she's the pilot and your the cousins rider? Or is that question best left off the Hub? Ha, ha, a MTB triple on a roadie. Some of the other hubbers I rode with on the wickend, said I should change my 42 front for a 39 and go from 22 to 25. That would make a ride through SBR (anywhere) take all day. So when do you get your pilot's licence? (Nah, forget the next question. It's a family forum dude. I'll get shot at dawn for treason if I aks that one.)
  17. Do you still have that 50 blade dude. Maybe I should put it on my bike, then perhaps I can be fast (Not. Never.) You have to have leg speed to turn a 50 at the knots you were doing. When you get used to that 52, you gonne be really fast.
  18. Must be all that speed dude, all tha speed, or was it the LSD? You may not have the seeding, but GO can attest to those burst or raw speed that you get to on those intervals of yours. See all that spped has affected my capacity to think clearly so I think leisurely ride with binocs when clearly it's going to be lungs on the handle bars stuff. Broken legs and blood trails chasing down that speed that you can turn on. You pulling a Nuwbie on the crowd pretending to be so slow. Die agteros kom ook in die kraal and if memeory serves, last time we had a bunch ride, I got lost / dropped and you ended up going far and fast. Stry?
  19. ER, Oxman, my budster. I hear ya dude, Trubie is being all modest again and he's going to be doing a fair bit of waiting for the slow okie pokies like me. Him and Andy will be pushing and shoving me around again. But dude, there is no diffs in waiting and parking off. If I have to wait for someone, then I am parking off / waiting. Same **** different long - drop. I have given some very serious thought to the binos dis-ting though. I have those big (BIG) old things that weigh half a ton. If the weight doesn't get me, they will surely slap me to death swaying back and forth with the movement of the bike. So, in the interst of good health, (Rib wise) and good PR with the SAPS (not having to explain why I was beaten to death with a blunt object), I have decided to leave them at home. (Not to mention that I am becoming a weight weenie). In conclusion, I will have limited chance to park off because there are going to be some speedsters on this ride. Shall I name them? WW, Trubie, The lightning Ox, Andy, Thug just to name a few. Dudes, y'all are going to be waiting for slowpoke moi.
  20. Delgado and the other members of the Colnago trio will be there on 20th. Kick off is at 08h00 from the car park close to the northern gate (N3) side. Maybe Joe and a few others will join this one too. Good training for this ride the following week.
  21. Yeah, I'll be there. Sometimes having "old timers" isn't such a bad thing. I will have forgotten that my legs are sore by then. As long as I can walk, I can probably peddle and IF I can do that, then I can ride. So let's negotiate this Visa dis-ting. I grew up in the norf. Parkhurst actaully, so by rights (Nance) that makes me an honourary citizen (Like you are an honourary southerner.) Does that count for anything? I won't say anything about the school I attended because they are in the new, AGAIN.
  22. Nance, I would never be mean to the Northern Killers of Terrible (southern) Bikers. (Intentionally.) I plead insanity. Thanks Ox. If I can still walk after my my second go around at SBR, I'll be there. (Or should I say "Aye".) AYE.
  23. Thanks Andy, It's a beeeach getting old, blind, forgetful and just downright stupid. Of course I speak for my own (in) ability. So we can do SBR on 20th then? Nance, you think there are no hills out South. Largely, you're right. But then again, you need to ride the berg bus with us. There are one or two little bumps out that way. SBR on va uvva hand, has only three tiny little bumps. And they HURT.
  24. Er Andy. I hate to break this to you this way, but remember: Item 1. You may be from out Norf (an all and all), but you are still a new kid on the block. I can understand OXand Nance wanting Visas, gold cards, mastercards etc, but dude, you are not yet in that position of might and power. Item 2. You may be fast, but refer item 1, you're still the new kid round here. Item 3. Agteros has a position of seniority as does Nance. Refer items 1 and 2. Item 4. You have to earn your stripes around here to pull rank. (In other words, we have to meet your first before we will enter you onto ourfranchise of selling Visas and for that, Kid has cornered that market.) Refer tems 1 through 3. Item 5. If you go outside of the chain of command, the Kid may be forced to employ the skills of our local doctor who will teach you water polo in a pair of kids special shoes. (cement no less.) Capice?
