  1. 1st thing AFAIK ???? 2nd what should have been standard shocks and why would someone consider changing them or would have changed them. Does anyone else have any other suggestions on which way to go with this Gerard AFAIK=as far as I know For that year of Teocali the shock was a Rockshox MC1 I think. you can google the diffs if you like, or if someone here cares to explain. I have to work
  2. ok, cool. I'll hold you to that. Next time I'm up there you're going to pay for my session there. I don't have to have ridden there to know I wont enjoy the sound of a highway next to me, and, I HAVE seen many many photos of the place. Again, I can judge from the pix how the rides are. Let me put this point out there, since you accredit a park to growing the sport. I'll bet you that guys who inspire rad riding on any format boost the sport way more than a park could. Look at skateboarding. Skateparks don't promote and boost it, rad skaters do. The only way to get rad skaters is to have a scene. The only way to have a scene is to have solid skaters pushing their limits against each other. The young upcomers then see this and aspire to do better. Thats how come we progress. It's a form of the singularity. So while on the surface the MTN park might seem to attract folks and grow the sport, awesome achievements and hot riding is what really does, and with nothing sick to ride...well, you hopefully see my point. It's my opinion though, and I'm sure you'll think it sucks or whatever, but hey, so be it. Oh, and we don't have the terrain in Gauteng for a Whistler bustthesickness2009-04-21 00:37:19
  3. I've heard a LOT about Giba gorge. I live in Cape Town now though, so I'm pretty chuffed with the riding here at Tokai and a few other sneaky spots, but ya, sounds like I need to do a bit of a roadtrip. Giba, then 'boven.
  4. Yeah, I was told from a reliable source that none of the lines' ratings compare to anything international, so guys are basically getting given a false sense of confidence. Wait 'till ya end up in Whistler on a 'Black' route! Now THAT is something I'll get my deckchair out for eh Truth be told, I don't think most people realised how lucky they were to have Logwood. It was never THAT far to drive there. I'll drive 500 km for a decent trail, so the 30 or 40 k's to get to Logwood was nothing. Now I guess you guys'll have to head out to 'boven for those sick lines.
  5. *sigh* Logwood's closure was so sad. That route going onto the little farmhouse's roof (Dark Side??) was my fav, and that awesome big box drop in the forest. What a pity eh. There is nothing like Logwood in SA now, and we're worse off for it. It really set a good benchmark for technical riding up there and introduced a LOT of folks to the possibilities of the sport. I was truly gutted when Geoff told us it was closing down. I always thought to myself "at least Joburg has Logwood". Don't even get me started on Newwood or whatever its called. To me, it defeats the purpose...cars screaming by all the time, totally random bridges and boardwalks and tame lines. A real pity Sad thing is that Logwood closed because of not enough people going there, so we can bitch and reminisce all day, bottom line is people just didnt go, and those who did, started going to MTN park. bustthesickness2009-04-20 20:44:51
  6. +1 for the Teocali there! I dont know what spec that bike in the pic has, but I can vouch for the Teocali. It's an awesome all round bike. Very strong and light enough to push up a hill. The only thing that TOTALLY SUCKS about the bike in that pic are those bar ends dude. They are sooooo wrong in so many ways. Bar ends do not belong on riser bars. 8 grand is a a good price for that though, and you can always upgrade. oh, and that coil shock isnt standard AFAIK. You might want to upgrade that for a plush tweaky Fox for better trail hugging. cheers
  7. I was 2/3 recovered from a bout of flu last year and went for an outride. By the end of the ride I felt worse than ever and it took me months to get my strength back. Dont ride or train if you're sick. It's so bad for you.
  8. Yup, I love those guys man. Totally some of the best people out there. We've been going to boven since we were kids. Hugely into rock climbing for years and years and then rode bikes there mostly thanks to Glenn and his passion for the sport. I need to plan a trip there soonest eh. I keep hearing stories of new developments going down there, new skills stuff going up and there are a few wooden fence crossings I'm keen to try out. Hopefully there are no LAME 3 meter wide rivier crossings eh , else I might need to pack some Immodiums. But yeah, I'll drop you a pm when my trip is planned. I'm hoping there is going to be a "Dirt-Fest" at boven some time too...(hint hint)
  9. hahahaha, LOL, classic image that painted in my mind! You guys are right, 'boven has some siiiiiiiiiiick potential for hardcore riding. Glenn has built some classic trails there. I agree, the rim trail is something else. Certainly is full-susser territory, and tubeless (I've had to hike maaaaany k's before from double snakebite punctures there. Very sharp rocks). Big up to Glenn for the countless hours and cash spent building those trails. I know how hard he's worked to make them happen, and while he's one of the nicest guys I know, he's also dedicated to busting the sickness almost daily. SOOOOOO unfair that he lives there. It's a very special place and I for one am very glad to hear that people have started pulling in to ride now. While for years 'boven has been one of the rock climbing meccas, the riding potential was always there too. A MASSIVE thanks must also be given to Mike (who owns Tranquilitas) who has very enthusiastically allowed the guys to build a rad pump track and dirt jumps there as well. It'll be great to see many riders starting to pull into 'boven for weekends. It's a small town, and it'll really help the locals there, and, if you drive fast, the 200km's from Jozi goes quickly man, you had to see the shamrock arms on saturday during the rugger: the deck just packed with big-hit bikes; the little pub crammed with okes with downhill jerseys! could've been whistler! man, i love tranquilitas?especially the sign at the entrance which lists the activites: climbing, mountain biking, chilling?the clubhouse was crammed with okes watching "red bull rampage" on a big screen after a slideshow of the day's riding! that two hours goes fast!!!! wow, thats great news. 'boven rocks! endless trails and really technical singletracks, especially on the outrides. I havnt ridden the bottom section of the rim trail and Glennage hadnt built th gap jump last time I was out. I think a little trip is in order...

  11. Bro..This was all ripping and shredding with a bit of laughter up to now... But RESPECT OTHER HUBBERS !!Thats no way to speak to anybody let lone a LADY!! Now Apologise and Be nice Or SHUT UP. BOSS0001: "I wish there were more people like youguys out there.. talking to everyone who have restrained themselves from words like.****-CHILD-IDIOT(SORRY TAKEN)-DUMBASS.." That's rich coming from you eh! If you don't like the thread, and you like the lame bridge at Tokai, then that's fine. You don't have to make a comment here. I will pray for you.
  12. I've been speaking to a LOT of guys about the bridge at Tokai. Here's the feedback so far: Dave - "what a waste of wood, are these guys serious?" Alan - "dude, get real, if someone cant ride through a river they have no place at Tokai" Stephan - "we should go chop it out bru..." (naughty Dylan - "Sigh, thats what's so f&^ked up about riding, some okes will always try to water it down" Susan - "Even I can ride through that river man, hahahaha" Gareth (susan's little bro) - "...hahaha, jaa I rode up that on my bmx a while back" Tony - "I'm going to stop going to Tokai if these guys don't take that bridge away" So out of the 5 people I spoke to, they all agree, lame bridges MUST be removed. Happy riding though.
  13. to those of you who are sooooooo serious about being serious. Please hurry up and stop wasting Earth's precious air. second...BOS1000. Nobody insulted you. I'm deeply hurt by your evil comments. ok, I'm not really. In fact, when a complete toolbag like yourself calls me names, it's the same as calling me cool stuff, so keep it up. LOVE your work! Mark, really now, what a TOTALLY redundant post dude. You actually just posted all that drivel to drop in the part where you make out u'r a trailbuilder. Here's what your post ACTUALLY says, that in 12 years you STILL can't cross a baby river and need a bridge (over troubled waters)! Shame. I'll keep an eye out for you though. Actually, no, I wont. See ya'll 'hubbers' aka cool guys
  14. ONLY if they name the useless pathetic bridge "Bust The Sickness". Then I will join the AMA, buy the socks, and once a year, I'll go and varnish the bridge to protect it. But the sign has to be as big as the bridge...so that would be 5 meters by 12 meters.
  15. No dude' date=' the Hub got lame ages ago with every *mini hijack and just about every over serious person who thinks they are part of a community.I know, lets all have a braai [/quote'] You going to bring the wood - word has it you have a line on a bit that some say is wasted? :-) hey thats a cool idea man. I know where there is a useless bridge with a total waste of wood at Tokai. It's about 5 meters wide.

  17. hahaha. you left out the option: "Please REMOVE the pathetic bridge on the Fairy trail".
  18. Well, it's REALLY sad for the up and coming kids who might have wanted to learn how to cross rivers. Tokai will never be the same again eh. I was actually so upset and nauseated that I visited 'Hello Peter' website to see if I could possibly make a complaint there. I was somehow directed to another site called "Cheap Vi@gra" where I actually picked up an awesome deal. I'll be leaving a couple of boxes of blue pills at the bridge at Tokai so that all the soft c0cs who ride it now will have a remedy for when they venture up the hill to ride the hero trails. On the 'Ask Dr.Phil' website he actually suggested that I join the AMA, and use the socks to filter water if I ever get stuck out in the Serengeti. Thanks Phil.
  19. Just to repeat the obvious here, but the BRIDGE NEEDS TO GO!
  20. Donald Sutherland Don't think we have the budget for that. I was thinking of Steve Hofmayer with an 80's Mullet and an 80's Bomber with back pedal brakes. I can just imagine his look of utter disgust when he skids up to the little bridge with his stove pipes and white gypsy takkies. hahaha, nice image dude!! @ Johnny, I went to the AMA website a while back and actually didnt join because of their stupid memberships. R150 gets you a membership. R250 gets you AMA Falke socks and a membership...bla blaaaaaaaa. WTF??? I don't like clubs like this. They are normally started by people who didnt get enough of being a prefect at school, and usually what happens is they end up thinking they own the places, and have some special right to speak on behalf of everyone. Well, in Tokai's case, they don't own it either, so they should have a way of getting a general consensus from the other 'non-falke soc wearing' riders.
