  1. Dude why pay so much get a annual pass on your wildcard its just over R200 for the whole year. cos I got a great deal on baseball bats and thought I'd pass the savings onto the TMNP. I DID mention I use the wildcard to get into other places. I don't only ride MTB dude. when I bought mine it was made clear that there are only X amounts of Tokai passes, as my card is not only for cycling. Not that it's really any of your business, but thanks for the heads up. Back to the topic: I think the bridge must be taken down.
  2. I don't get your 'joke'. Please explain
  3. Thanks for all the enlightening input. You must feel really cool that you've been riding Tokai since '91. I'll bet in '91 people managed to ride through that river on rigid Nishiki's. Anyway, as you put it "youhave a right to voice your opinion" so I voiced mine. The bridge and all the rest of the dumbing down sucks. I love this 'eco' excuse. Is this the same reason the track on level 2 had a lame boardwalk built on it too?! We all know how eco TMNP are. Thanks for the riding tips too. You must be an awesome amazing rider to only use your front brakes. I would like you to show us all how first.
  4. nothing wrong with shimano lx. why do you want to upgrade?
  5. What's that they say about money parting? You ever seen those gatekeepers with the cordless card reader thing at the gate? Surely if you're there twice a week it must have piqued your curisoity. get one of these https://www.wildinafrica.com/endless/Wild and spend the rest at AMA. becuase they're the guys who actually do the trails' date=' not TMNP (where your money is going) [/quote']First off, thanks for the insulting post. I will be sending u some evil. Guess what Shebeen, yes, I DO have a Wildcard. BUT.... I don't only ride bikes and I use the card for my other outdoor missions too. The Wildcard system only allows certain amounts of visits. Regardless, not everyone who rides at Tokai uses a Wildcard. LOOK at the clipboard when you sign in next time. Thanks for the meaningless post though. I'll sleep better for it.
  6. Where? In the bushes on the other side of the river, or in the braai area?
  7. This pretty much sums this all up, especially the part about brushing teeth. That is REALLY important. Great post Crow. I expected lots of people to whip out the flame throwers when I posted this thread. The good thing is that people are talking about this, because to me (a paying customer in effect) to modify the trails as they see fit should be done by consensus. It's wrong to take all of the challenges out of the so called green routes. Challenges are what MTB is about. If it wasnt then I'd rather be at Virgin doing a spinning class looking at hot girls' asses. While, yes, nobody is saying that the trailbuilders are NOT doing a more than excellent job at Tokai, certain things shouldnt be changed just for the sake of it. Yes, perhaps the bridge is needed to curb erosion, but then at least make some sort of alternative to keep the more seasoned riders happy too. The bridge NEVER needed to be that wide. It's ridiculous. Furthermore, I REALLY detest the 'north shore' run on the level 2 track (the one with the tiny drop off). This has ruined a rather spectacular technical section, and replaced it with a boring gangplank. In fact, I was so nauseated by the sight of this new section that I was sick all night when I got home. Even my cats were worried and meowed a lot to see if I was ok. I wasnt. The sight of that wooden monstrosity keeps coming into my mind. It's affecting me a lot. Even to the point where I cant work and end up hanging out on evil forums like this place. Anyways, I guess some will like it, some wont. I feel that those people who carry on about people who dont go there and build trails shouldnt have a say and should shut up are typical. If 4000 people ride there a month it means CNC has R80k to play with each month. I contribute about R200 to this a month. I have a right to have a say. I'm a paying customer. oh well, sad to see the general vibe is the same as usual. Places like this are not about pioneering things anymore. Look at MTN in Jozi. Instead of spearheading hard riding and INSPIRING people to become good riders, they water down the tracks so that mum can take little Billy there and he wont get a scuff, meanwhile, Billy will only learn to be mediocre because the real riding is in the backcountry, guarded by the riders who care what they ride. bustthesickness2009-04-15 03:15:39
  8. WHOOOOOOOO, easy tiger. No bolemics allowed here
  9. Hi Cheryl, I'm not talking about the concrete bridge section. We are talking about the RIVER CROSSING. When last were you at Tokai? Ahh - you mean the erosion at the river crossing..... (note I did ask which lot of erosion you were asking about....!). Well there's been quite a bit of that too over the last number of years. On both sides of the bank.... Also go through that spot after a bunch of guys have rideen through (prior bridge) and you could see the silt in the water. (not that walking through there as some do didn't also cause damage........) Anyway - point is, very high volumes of riders can have a big environmental impact, which can require 'dumbing down' of trails to prevent environmental impacts...... anyway - i want to see that bridge in winter, once its acquired a nice moss coating........ The irony of your comment is of course that the Tokai trails are in a PINE PLANTATION!!!! Kind of defeats the point in being all environmentally friendly and all eh?! Secondly, you speak as if you have some insider knowledge from the trail builders as to why this bridge was constructed. I'm guessing here, but I very much doubt it was erosion that caused this bridge to be built. Anyways, you cant carry on about environmental impacts regarding this section. The very nature of the section is low impact. First off, there are root systems on either side of the crossing, with rocky sections before these sections. I'd agree with you if it were a steep chute with a corner at the bottom and no choke before the turn, but in the case of this bridge, it's just weenies not wanting to get wet.
  10. Hi Cheryl, I'm not talking about the concrete bridge section. We are talking about the RIVER CROSSING. When last were you at Tokai?
  11. HAHAHA, classic! MH (easier to type), just now you mentioned that you couldnt ride out of the river section and now your CHALLENGING me to a tech-off!!! he he. I wont be challenging you though because I couldnt care less what you can and cant ride. What I do know is that if a section on a trail challenges me, I try until I get it. I dont go and modify the trail to make it easier. And yip, lots of us do have secret nasty stuff built in the hills here. Maybe even me. I wont be telling you where though as I'm sure you and your buds will turn my camel humps into a dromedary.
