  1. sounds like they were just trying to cover their arses. had your dad been seriously injured due to their equipment failing, things could have gone sour very fast for them.
  2. its a road frame. click the link. its not so stupid
  3. transparency. like the codger teachers used to use at school
  4. ...and now, every time someone crashes or has an accident, we can all read about it on the hub. hey, I fell off at Tokai the other day...wait, let me start up a thread for that

  6. thats rad!
  7. with all due respect guys, nobody here is saying that it's not horrific. this little idiot caused the death of a man. it's tragic...but you can argue all you like, it's not murder. the guy didnt go out that day and decide to run over a cyclist. through his error and negligence, he caused a death. it's culpable homicide.
  8. Yeah' date=' that opens another can of worms. Driver gets a car, deliberately without a licence to drive, willfully riding on a public road, without the necessary knowledge and skill, knowingly he could cause harm to other road users because of his lack of roadworthiness. I know the law does not work that way, but I wish the courts would interpret incident like this in that way. [/quote']Look man, I was just stating the facts bc someone said the guy was charged with murder. I don't for a second think the guy intended to kill a cyclist. Accidents happen and the guy will have to have the chilling memory of this with him for the rest of his life. You are confusing intent with will. very different terms. Bottom line, yes the guy was unlicensed, but it was an accident.
  9. the driver is not charged with murder. He is charged with Culpable Homicide (unlawful killing of another with an absence of an intention to kill. Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being with intent) Here is the IOL article. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=vn20090204125403314C134944 Condolences to his Craig's family. R.I.P
  10. It's a pity if you don't. I ask for a discount at any and every shop I buy things in. I bought a R7k tv from Game the other day and they gave me over R250 off just 'cos I asked (btw, I spoke to the manager, the sales rep will not be allowed to do this). The manager wanted to know why he should, and I just made it clear that if he didnt I'd just go elsewhere. In my own business I'm expected to discount my rates often. There are two ways to approach this. One is to cut the price, the other is to add more value. If bike shops don't want to discount the price, they could give you 25% off your next service. This brings you back, and adds value. But to just be a **** like the shopowner in the original post only does two things, it ups the 'stingey' factor (ie the business seems broke) and it is being rude to a paying customer. Sure they made the extra 5% off the sale, but I bet the customer will look for alternative options next time. There is nothing wrong with asking for discounts. It's part of business. If both parties can walk away feeling good about the transaction, then this is what it's about.
  11. Nothing wrong with "Cycling Trouble Spots" !!!!! Relax dude, I just think it would be usefull if all the treads about Thot Spots, dangerous roads, etc etc where all in one place (forum). I think it's great idea to have a list like this I will definatly check through it if I go ride on an unfamilier route I'll be sure to put lots of smilies on my future posts. No worries. I think the sad thing is that a list like this will basically have just about every place we ride on it. I can already add Deer park and all surrounding foothills on Table Mountain, Topside & Blackhill, Kalk bay, Silvermine and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I know of incidents at all of these venues. What p!sses me off even more is that In centurion there are spots where it has been known for bike-jackings for years. The cops know about it, yet nobody gets caught and no cyclists are safe.
  12. That's Boyle's law. (P1V1)/T1 = (P2V2)/T2 The pressure inside the gas bomb is way higher than when the gas comes out. It's volume increases & pressure decreases' date=' so the temperature must go down. It's a similar principle to how fridges and air conditioning works. Also, what attachment are you using? Normally a gas bomb will inflat the tyre very quickly. It's what I use to inflate my tubeless tyres [and they need a huge 'kick' of air to make them snap into place']
  13. Judging from the photos it looks like it was perhaps over-torqued. This said though, it could have been dropped at some point and been stressed from that. If it DID crack from over-torquing then I'd be certain to NEVER use their products again. Things like stems, skewers and cranks need to be made overly strong as in many circumstances they can lead to huge crashes if they fail.
  14. HECTIC!!! Wow, he's lucky he didn't completely buy the farm. Could the stem have been overtightened or stressed in any way that you know of? These kinds of failures are interesting to me as even though this component is very light, and designed to have little redundancy they do tend to seem over-engineered in some respects [like the 4 bolt plate for the bar clamp end]. Could it have failed from twisting action? I would be very keen to hear KCNC's response to this. Certainly a big fear of mine, and a critical component to fail, in fact maybe the worst thing that could fail on a bike.
  15. Offering an alternate view Spanner. And you speak for everyone? nice name you came up with for me!! very mature keep it up!! Spanner, if it fits the nut, use it!
  16. I don't get it. Just because you also ride a bike does this give you the right to be an enforcer of the rules? It's not even law that one needs to wear a helmet. If it were' date=' you STILL have no right to just wind down and chirp a complete stranger because of what YOU think is right. You telling me that when you see a person driving without a safety belt on, you roll down your window and say "Morning... Where is the safety belt?". By your logic, because you're also driving a car, you are connected by the 'brotherhood of road users'. You're lucky you only got a blank stare and not a cleat mark on the side of your car. [/quote'] Um dude why are commenting on this, your philosophy is to just leave things be. Go away to your blissful ignorance already. Or is it that you only have the balls to make comment from behind your computer screen. Correct. Now, next time you see a big dumb bouncer chuck his stompie on the curb I wanna see you go up to him, and tell him to pick it up, ok! If people wanna ride without helmets then let them. WTF difference does it make to you?

By your logic, because you're also driving a car, you are connected by the 'brotherhood of road users'. You're lucky you only got a blank stare and not a cleat mark on the side of your car. [/quote'] I disagree....yesterday afternoon I did exactly the same thing just in a different context....a guy stopped next to me at a traffic light in his car (and I was in mine) and the passenger tossed a sigarette bud out of the window and I did roll down my window and asked him if his car's ashtray was broken....and don't tell me its not the same....the principal remains the same. There are ENOUGH a$$holes polluting our roads.....GREAT! I bet you felt glad that 'in principle' you did your bit hey wHooooooop!! Just be careful of poking your nose into things though. You might think you're a hero once too often, and one day you'll do this to the wrong person and get the living &%$#^% beaten out of you. Then you can tell everyone that you are in a wheelchair because of a stompie VERRRRY philanthropic of ya! Oh, and yes, helmets are law, so let a cop enforce it. Don't run around doing other peoples work. shame must be very sad and lonely on your planet.....I bet you are one of those people who always walk away when someone is in need is knocking on your door because you don't get involved or one of those people who always speed past a lady cyclist stranded roadside with a puncture.....because wHoooooop!! because I don't get involved..... Next time Cape Town burns down because of a sigarette bud out of an ignorant asshole's window.....you and I will chat again....have a super day !!No ways the fire was caused by that. There never was any proof. Only a disgruntled car guard's testimony. Which begs the question, if the car guard saw the guy throw the cigarette, and saw it start a fire, then why didnt he put the flame out? The fires in CT smacked of arson. Poor british guy gets blamed and everyone sleeps well at night.
