  1. thanx holy and ben - I'll use my old tyres up first and then go and get tubelss tyres. unless it turns out the combo is not to be strong enough for me. TheLegend2008-02-21 02:16:48
  2. no probs? tubeless tyre should be a bit "safer" though, hey?
  3. nono, in South Africa it's a ROBOT - actually quite scary...imagine coming out of the cinema after a bad sci-fi movie with robots and your gf says "watch out, the robot is red"!
  4. can you perhaps elaborate this a bit?
  5. Agh, bla bla.. [counting offences of motorist, weighting them against cyclist offence - to what use? There's way less cyclists on the road so the comparison lacks a basis and is anything but representable. Problem is only that when cars drive recless and an incident happens the damage is usually much bigger than with a car. If a cyclists is being involved of course he's at a big threat. But cyclists, the red light jumpers, the white line crossers, the going dangerously through traffic-ers, they shouldn't colpian about the cars because, as mentioned above, they do sh*t themselves, and vice versa! Why don't people jsut take it that cyclist jump red lights often (sometimes). If they do it when dangerous and they get hurt they better shut up, cause it's their fault! And it's not only pro's doing that but also the funrider like Koos van der Merwe from next door, you and me. Some cyclists don't do it. Ok, definitely a good choice, well done. But it just won't change. If the police would be mor estrict on this braking of the law I'm sure it would change (fines in Germany for example are quite heavy and there's less law braking there, but still it happens often!). Do it, don't do it. But don't always start threats about it.] It's always the same discussion. Just like so many other topics. TheLegend2008-02-20 11:04:14
  6. I have seen a report about motorbikes once where the speed wobbling was demonstrated. In German it's called "Schimming" and can happen with any motorbike so I guess also with bicycles (once wittnessed this of a friend on a MTB going fast downhill on the road, hands away from the handelbar). The motorbike manufacturer actually tested a small device to reduce the schimming effect. Don't know how successful it became though. If trying to fight it I'd start with the tyres. But wait till THE dude reads this, he'll sort you out - probably you can fight this with some home made paste increasing the friction of your seatpost
  7. Does anyone KNOW if the combination of a disc hub and a rim for v-brakes is strong enough for the v-brakes? because obviously the spokes have a different angle than on a normal hub. thanx
  8. racing hart, you are right about that one event - but look about the general picture of the bicycle in SA and in Europe. In countries like belgium, the netherlands and germany the bicycle is a big part of daily traffic in cities and around. often there's bicycle lanes and bikes are usually resprected. people are used to share the roads with cyclists and generally the cyclist has the right of way. cycling is a huge sport in SA, yes, but motorists don't respec thtem on the road - they ar ealmost an alien on the road.
  9. One still has to get used to see Mike without hairs looking out of the back of his helmet... congrats to the success today!
  10. Why shouldn't they charge for the bikes? You want to transport something exceeding their size restrictions which needs extra handling and it might also be the 2nd item you check in. So of course you have to pay - the bike takes up room in the cargo compartement as well! In europe you pay 60 ? ( > 600 ZAR) one way for sporting items. Of course I wouldn't mind transporting my stuff for free either and if other airlines do transport your bike for free it's nice but not the rule.
  11. I wonder....I think the least people go to these races for "fun". They go to race and suffer and get high on adrenaline. And that's when some people tick out. For fun you take your bike and do a nice ride with friends!
  12. Imagine him swearing at Kelly Tom? - what a big celebration time! was she there? perhaps? please!?
  13. I've habe three steel frames welded and they all were still strong afterwards. best is probably to ask your LBS if they know someone able around. surely possible to fix!
  14. fixed gears, SS, not the same thing. SS usually ridden on a MTB but still with brakes whereas the fixed gears are usually track bikes someone for some reason thought it would be cool to take on the road. I've read somewhere that the first bicycle messengers to ride with fixies were in San Francisco! crazy crazy! now you seem them in almost every city.
  15. Marius, with the bike in the pic you surely don't go over any rock. It's a kiff idea. Most likely won't make it on the market but if you ride single speed for the aesthetics of it the brake at the crank doesn't jump into your eye as much as one on the back or front. Chain, no matter how heavy duty, might snap sometime, so the risk is still there. but then again, when you ride a fixed gear off the racing track you want that risk! - look at bike messengers in the cities...I know what I'm talking about!
  16. the dude on the left in the standrad bank kit is the suffering lion flemish lion. nice pics, thanx ronelle. you got a cool new avatar, best one on the hub so far!
  17. lets wait and see about another german company: contacted adidas germany today because of my running shoes - they don't perform as they should...but I trust in ze germs!
  18. Turboman had just yelled "wys jou muis" and one girl is really offended, the other is looking forward to it and no. 3 isn't sure if she understood what the guy said!? what happened afterwrards?
  19. did the photographer do an indecent posture?
  20. what's up with those girls?
  21. It's a good cause and to be appreciated. But I wonder how much that BMX track will do for the kids. How many of them do actually have a bike to ride on it? How long will the track bb in a good state before it gets destroyed? The BMX track doesn't help to fight poverty from the bottom up to actually solve or change something. I think there's other ways, better way, to do something for the kids or the community together. Criticism without a better recommendation again...but doing something for the hygenic situation in the township would be something useful and might actually change something for a longer term.
