  1. Haha- I know the feeling. Let them go. By the time they are done showering and changed into fresh cloths, you will have arrived and sitting at your desk with a coffee.
  2. Put on your work cloths and cycle at 15 km/h. No need to shower or change! Wear a base layer if you worried about sweating and remove it at work.
  3. Taken on Google Pixel.
  4. It is almost a guaranty that the bike it going to get mucked up after every ride in the Netherlands.
  5. To the countryside in North Holland. Photos taken with the Google Pixel (no filter)
  6. So did we. It was raining when went out but an hour into to our trip it started with the cats and dogs. We all loved it though. As long as there is a shower and dry cloths at the end then it can rain as much as it wants.
  7. http://www.buienalarm.nl/ I was shown this great rain forecast app while boating on the weekend. It proved to be very accurate giving us a 2 hour forecast.
  8. As I understand it the scooters on bike lanes are also restricted to 40kmh and you don't need to wear a helmet If your scooter can go faster the 40kmh then you have to share the road with cars and wear a helmet.
  9. You would think. But then last night my neighbor's were having a BBQ in the street with chairs tables the works. Drinking and smoking and laughing. Its perfectly legal and I love how liberal this country is. Concerning scooting in bike lanes they have dropped the ball!
  10. I guess the more you ride the more you are likely to fall. Commuters on the wrong side happens quite a lot here. It's just that the scooter try and squeeze into every gap to gain an advantage. It's like there is a magical donut waiting for them on the other side. Yes the majority of scooter users really could with the exercise!
  11. So I suffered my first crash in over two years, on Friday. I was on my way to Zuid Station and was in a bit of a rush. Cycling on my single speed commuter with back pedal braking. The roads were wet from rain. I was cycling round the traffic circle when a scooter came past me and then took the same exit as me but then braked suddenly. His rear brake light was not working so by the time I realized he was slowing down quickly it was too late. I braked hard to avoid collision, causing the rear wheel to slide out. Luckily nothing is broken, but my left leg went down with the bike while my my body hit the ground on the right side. I definitely twisted something as I can't apply weight to the leg. @sshol3 scooter drove off, but another cyclist stopped to move my bike out the lane while I was collecting myself. When will the government finely outlaw scooters in the bike lane? I'll add that I was cycling a bit fast and could have been more careful, yet if that scooter had not sped past me only to hit the brakes this would not have happened.
  12. The amount of times I have seen cyclists without lights in poor visibility astounds me. When I was living in Mouille Point, I used to see cyclists past through the mist like ghosts with no lights. I current run a Cateye rapid 3 that fits snug into my Fi'zi:k saddle. Battery lasts very long on flash mode. Extreme Light up front.
  13. A game I keep coming back to, cause it is so flipping addictive is ,Banished. The game that really blew me away since I love real time strategy stealth games is, Shadow Tactics (Blades of the Shogun) . AAA games are fun too but I rarely will play them twice. Skyrim is an exception!
  14. The tiny cars are for disabled people, so I'm told. Haven't had any issues with them. But those scooters are k@k annoying especially the ones wearing headphones that can't hear your bell when you want to pass them. All in all it is a hell of a lot safer than cycling in SA. No need for gears single speed all the way. And I'm getting this pack pedal brake business down. Most dangerous thing on a Dutch bike lane has got be a bakfiets filled with kids.
  15. #varkhart How much did they charge for the trade in?
  16. Rembrandt Park on my commuter in the rain.
  17. I was trying to spend around 100, but this bike popped up with a three month warranty at bike shop that I like. Rented bikes from them and every time we walked in the service was great regardless of who helped. I especially liked the mechanics story of when he snorted tequila.
  18. It's to stop peeps from locking bikes to the poll. You will see it outside shop and ground floor home windows too. Locking bikes is taken to a whole new level here. Fitted Abus lock on the back wheel and then use a heavy chain to lock the front wheel and frame to a bar or bike rack. It is estimated that 800 000 bikes get stolen in the Netherlands annually.
  19. Yes and sad it's no longer with me.
  20. My new bike Sparta Delphi Steel, 28" wheel, single speed, back pedal braking, 60cm with a rack and mud guards. €199 The perfect bike to roam around Amsterdam.
  21. Commuting in Amsterdam That space you think is personal while riding is just another place for someone to ride!
  22. Selling my BFe Relocating and can't take it with. Hoping to get a Roadrat when I'm in A'dam. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/249667-cotic-bfe-gritstone/
