  1. The secret is the No tubes rims that only weigh 0.41kg and can be converted to tubeless by just using Stans yellow spoke tape that weighs 5gram per wheel. If you use Shimano XTR hubs with the same configuration that I currently have you can get the wheels down to 1.65kg
  2. No Tubes ZTR355. The wheels weigh 1.8kg with valves and rim tape
  3. Thug, I decided on Shimano SLX hubs. They are really good value for money and actually lighter than XT hubs.
  4. Thanks Goldmember. The handling is much better than I anticpated. It definately rolls better than a 26" and climbing is easier because you don't lose as much momentum when going over obstacles.
  5. Hi Noche For a few reasons: 1. Mostly ride the Braamfontein Spruit with it so no real need for a front shock 2. The 2.25 29er wheels at 1.8 bar give quite a bit of suspension. 3. Single speed = alot of standing when going up hills and therefore with a suspension fork you tend to bob alot. 4. The cost. It is only R2000 versus R 6000 for a good quality suspension fork. 5. The weight. It only weighs 0.85Kg 6. And yes it looks cool
  6. Hi here is my new On One Scandal 29er Single speed in British racing green. Check out the Back disc brake setup! Another Angle Took it for a ride Yesterday and the ride is awsome. For the weight weenies the bike weighs 9.6 Kg. My favourite part is the custom wheels built up by Johan Bornman. I think these Scandal frames are awsome value for money.
  7. Hi I have been using my Eggbeaters C for about two years now and they are tired (have already done a seal / bearing replacment on them which only lasted six months). My question is how does the Candy's compare to eggbeaters. Shamus has some demo Candy SL's for R 800. Has anyone got experience with both types and which do you prefare? If I don't go for the demo Candys I will end up bying the Eggbeater SC. Thanks

    CRC Order

Mighty Spoke I have bought from CRC twice already and both times I collected the parcels without a slip.
  10. Hi Kiwi Any more info regarding the Carbon On One 29er? Is there any news regarding the arrival of the Scandal frames and forks?

    CRC Order

Hi Mighty Spoke Did you go to your post office to see if the goods are not there. My CRC order also said awaiting customs clearance but it was already at my post office. You do not really need any reference number they have book where all international parcels are written in, just look for your name. Seemingly the tracking of the parcel once in RSA does not keep up with the actual parcel. I hope it is there
  12. Is there anyone that has five stars?
  13. What does one have to do to get 5 stars if Holy has still only got four stars??
  14. Hi trevor In single speed terms there is definately a difference. Based on an excel chart that I got from Steel Niner, if for instance you are riding a 32 front and 17 rear on a 26" inch bike which would give a gearing of 48.94 you would need to ride with a 32 front and 19 rear to get the same gearing on a 29" bike. I think Eldron is correct. In theory it should only affect you in your easiest or most difficult gears.
  15. Hi Kiwi Will the Stainless 32 t chainring be comaptible with Shimano 4 hole cranks? How much will they cost. What is the latest arrival date of the Green 29" Scandal frames?
  16. Thanks. Even though the price of the Contis are great and l like to support kiwi I must say I am a bit sceptical about the Contis. One of my friends has a UST Moutain King on the back of his hardtail. He has done about 200km with it and the tyre has had a tear on the sidewall and a puncture on the tread that required a plug. Tyre looks like it has done 2000km already Has anyone used Crossmark 29" tyres. I have heard that they are beaded / non foldable and cannot be converted to tubeless. I got more than 2000 km out of the UST 26" Crossmark with not one flat. SteveS2009-10-07 03:03:35
  17. Does anybody have any experience with the Bontrager Jones XR tyres? They are 29" tubeless ready tyres and weigh 620g. I heard their sidewalls are soft but I also heard that of Continental Mountain kings.
  18. Hi The Thug. Where did you buy the Pythons and what do they cost?
  19. No No Mr Baker you cannot fix your landings. Who is going to entertain us on our rides down the Spruit. You are supposed to improve on your record of 4 wipeouts in one session .
  20. Hi Mr Baker According to what I can see the travel on the Recon that you have can be adjusted between 85 - 130mm without modifying the shock (i.e. cutting the fork as the techi told you). R 500.00 sounds steep maybe get another quote. On the other hand CRC are running some awsome deals on forks at the moment (especially with rand being strong against the pound). I.e 100mm 2010 Rock Shox Recon for R 2154 incl VAT or a Reba Race, same as mine for R3202 incl VAT. And while you ordering from them you can get a new XT 32t middle chainring for R250 compared to the quote of R800 from your LBS SteveS2009-09-09 03:19:15
  21. We are in the Midlands around Nottingham Road on holiday and passed loads of school kids with brand new bright yellow bikes. So the programme seems to be a national thing.
  22. The fork was R1900 ex Vat from CRC. I bought some other stuff and got the free shipping. Longer rides are fun. You will be suprised that the time difference between a geared bike and SS is small. I do a 50Km loop of the Spruit and I think my SS time is only about 3-5m slower. I would love to get a cadence sensor to see what my cadence gets up to on some of the flat/downhill sections .
  23. Hi Gtracing. I am running a 32/16 at the moment which I find perfect. I can just make it up the Hurlingham hill by Republic and the Deltapark hill under the trees. Thanks BBi.
  24. Thanks Louis I mainly use the single speed for training on the Spruit which does not really require suspension. I had a Rockshox Tora 302 fork on the front which one cannot call lightweight and it made the bike feel to heavy in front especially with the back being light (sans cluster etc). The front was always lower when jumping stuff. I haven't tried the rigid fork yet. I only got the bike with the fork now installed back today but I am sure a 1.5Kg difference is going to be noticeable. SteveS2009-07-23 07:29:42
