  1. Grant from www.singlespeed.co.za has the short crank bolts as well as Mono Veloce SS specific chainrings in various sizes
  2. Yes, yes and yes
  3. Hi RodTi Got your pm. Attached find a pic of the LX cranks when they were still on my 26" SS (dont know the model number). My LBS made spacers out of a stuffed big chainring. This was a few years ago before the short chainring bolts became available. I am sure you could just do the same conversion as Deanbean
  4. Dude check this thread. 2 April Rietvlei. Everybody with a SS is going to be there https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/100288-singlespeed-champs-rietvlei/
  5.
  6. Now this is why the Hub works well. Bloody Agent I think you just saved BigBoy from a certain scam
  7. +1
  8. Eagle Canyon Cycles in Northgate and Johan Bornman of Yellow Saddle
  9. When I post and ad, I never include any contact details in the ad itself. If they are interested they have to PM me. Meaning they must be a member and not just someone trolling the site. You can then check up on the hubbers status by searching for previous posts by the poarticular hubber. It is not foolproof as was found out by a few guys being taken last week by a hubber, but its a start. Link that to MorwoodMad's comments and you should decrease the risk quite a bit
  10. I fell of a ladder and badly broke/dislocated my elbow (apparantly most of the time a fracutre and dislocation happens at the same as the elbow pops/breaks out of the socket) and two ribs. They had to surgically repair the elbow. I still have a screw in my elbow where the doctor reattached the tendon. The doctor told me that I would never be able to straighten my arm completely but after numerous Fisio sessions and loads of work with one of those elastic bands it eventually recovered. Pain wise the two broken ribs kept me off the bike and not the elbow for at least 6 weeks.
  11. Another point is that I don't think you can pay the day license when entering online, so then you have to take bucks with when you register. Happend to me at Babbas and I had to go all the way back to my car to get the R35.
  12. Dude its a no brainer (R50 ROAG, R75 Provincial License, R75 CSA) all done on-line, took 2 days and I had it. Versus R35 per day license. I have done the few races where the day license point was not the same as number collection meaning to 2 x q's.
  13. RodTi. I am using Shimano LX cranks for my 29er SS. They are bulletproof. My ss inherited them when my geared bike got XT cranks. All I did was install a 32t Blackspire SS chainring and have had thousands of trouble free kms with them. And yes they use the same external BB setup as the XT's and XTR's.
  14. I took out my CSA liscence last week and it cost R200 (R50 ROAG, R75 Central Qauteng, R75 CSA). That is R16.66 per month. I cannot believe that people can moan so much about paying R 200 per year for the privilage of racing and having a Cycling Federation taking care of Cycling in South Africa. I used to Canoe actively and out of interest went to see how much its cost to be able to take part in canoeing races. The annual provincial and national fee is R 550 per year, excluding your club membership. I will most likely get slated for this by people saying what are they getting for the R200 etc, etc. Maybe if we paid more they would be able to do more, he says grabbing his hat and running out the room.
  15. Did'nt Burry Stander build some signature track there?. If not there are loads of gravel roads all over the place for MTB'ing / game viewing
  16. I also use Cyclemeter on my Iphone. It chows the batteries though. I also find that the Iphone loses the GPS signal quite a bit when the phone is in my cycling shirt
  17. 2 Bar
  18. Chris. So you think its mud.
  19. Furbaza. There are a few things in your post that confuses me. Firstly there were only 145 riders doing the 70KM. Do seriously want to split 145 riders into 4 smaller groups? You say that you started 25% from the front. In other words there were 36 riders ahead of you. Not alot considering that the start was on a tar road (as mentioned earlier in the thread). I find it hard to believe that it took you 7km to catch someone that started in the same bunch as you but travelling half your speed. I have only done that race once but if you are refering to the gravel road after you turn into the reserve, there must have been enough space for you to pass two people riding next to each other, its a gravel road not single track or jeep track. Babas is most likely one of the least technical races on the calander and there will always be loads of newbies doing it.
  20. I Have the Planet X carbon forks and I am happy with them. Yes Eldron the Niner forks are so sweet. You can get them from local LBS Niner dealers for about R 3500.
  21. Edgar Did you do it with SS in the end? How was it?
  22. Edgar thanks for the ride yesterday. Sorry we lost each other in the "forest" section, was heading home in any case. Obviously the rest of the Thursday Spruit group is allergic of mud.
  23. I have a set of Avid ELXIR CR carbons and I am not happy with them. On my single speed I have a set HYGIA SLP's which are half the price of the Avids (R1450 for the complete set with rotors) and are much better. I bought them from Jooste here on the hub. Check out this link https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/93269-hygia-disc-blow-out-sale/page__p__1272370__fromsearch__1#entry1272370
