  1. Funny, I'm reading this on my phone and while scrolling down through the photos I thought it reminded me of the Rocket 3. Then I got to your comment. So we agree. It would be a difficult choice for sure. Both would cause pain in the pocket and the Ducati perhaps more so.
  2. Hairy, looking at your photos I sense there is an adventure bike rider lurking somewhere in your DNA. What on earth are you doing on that Harley? Anyway, here is a answer to your scenario:
  3. Hairy, I installed Calimoto to check and it does what you want. Just enter what you want. Just enter a round trip, add distance and let it find your location and voila, done. https://calimoto.com/en/help/create-rides/round-trip-planner
  4. Calimoto will show you rides that others have logged in your selected area. Not the same but useful
  5. Good to hear about your hearing. Wonder what caused that? Interesting too about the no-noise plugs. I find they don't cut enough noise, to the point where on a ride back one day on the N7 into a head-on South Easter, I had to pull over and change them for foamies after an hour. My ears just couldn't take the buffetting.
  6. Harley riders. Got to have that exhaust noise to "feel safe".
  7. Been using maps.me for years. Easy to use and using offline is a bonus. I plan a route on Google maps, export it as .kml and then import into maps.me. Works fine and I suppose one could always use Google maps as a backup
  8. Yes, great to meet you too. You sure put more effort into cleaning your bike than I do. Yes I know that spot very well from my numerous walks past there along Tafelberg.
  9. Sorry to mess you around but there's been a change of plan. Not going this week but perhaps some other time. Thanks for the interest and glad to see you have your bike sorted
  10. On another topic, a mate and I are thinking of taking a ride on Saddy over Bain's kloof and having a snack at bike forge. Anyone interested in joining in?
  11. Good happy ending to your story Hairy. Definitely worthwhile to keep that mechanic as your go-to guy from now on.
  12. So you looked at Hairy's photo and went straight off to look for tractor air filters? Classic. Hahaha
  13. See? Told you I knew f' all.
  14. For starters it would be foam and not paper but other than that I pass. I'm no expert on that.
  15. PLEASE send photos
  16. Hairy, from what I've seen you could probably ride over Swartberg pass to Prince Albert on your bike if the road is in decent nick. Maybe worth considering.
  17. Spokey, when will you be back? I was thinking of doing a trip to Swartberg and Prince Alfred's Pass and environs and thought perhaps a catchup may be possible.
  18. Geez those bikes have done a lap or two.
  19. I had a self-induced heat seize on my 360. Rode up Sir Lowry's pass and when I reached the top I switched off and freewheeled about 1 km "to give it a rest". Duh. 1 km further when I tried to bump start it, it just instantly seized. Cylinder had cooled, contracted and seized onto the piston. I had to wait a bit on the side of the road, worrying if I was going to make it but about 30 minutes later it started again on the first kick. Lesson learned.
  20. Gee, was that a proper seize? Sounds more like a heat seize
  21. Haha, I've been given so much stick for my "chicken strip"
  22. One of the guys in that thread said that the parking attendants were helpful so perhaps ask one of them when you get there. And if he doesn't know, find another.
  23. It's a useful site for many reasons. there are some opinions voiced there with which I do not agree at all but overall I find it useful although it has an offroad bias. But threads like MotoGP, and day to day tech issues are very entertaining/interesting and give me pause for thought. Perhaps do a dry run to the airport using info you can find just to do a proof of concept?
  24. I absolutely agree with you about a cover and the valet thing. Owning a bike is about passion and we - for what it's worth - develop a relationship of sorts with our bikes and want to care for them. Here is the link for the Wilddog parking thread. You may have to join to be able to see it but it's free. https://wilddog.net.za/threads/bike-parking-cape-town-international-airport.259416/#post-4843902
  25. Interesting...Why is your bike a "her"?
