  1. Hairy and Mazambaan, For what it's worth, I think you guys are both wrong - depending on how you ride. I think most folk are right handed and it's better to use your dominant hand to activate whichever brake is better for your style of riding. Don't know about you but I - when I still had the energy to ride MTB - used my back brake far more often than my front and liked having the fine control of my right hand. Also, in an unexpected emergency, my reaction - perhaps due to motorbike riding - was to grab a handful with my right hand. I preferred that to be back brake and I could then follow up with front for more stopping. Motorbike was the opposite, with front brake being the brake of choice. That's for road riding, anyway. I find on gravel it's still my reaction to grab the right hand brake and that being front, it does catch me out. Comments?
  2. Hairy, Have you thought of or looked at Triumph? Perhaps the Tiger 900 is your kind of thing. Good both on and off road and boy, that sound.
  3. Ouzo, You may enjoy this:
  4. Hairy, I know you don't live in the area but if you can, try to get up there early one morning. The lighting and silence are superb. Apart, that is, from the sounds of the city below waking up. Take coffee..
  5. For sure. I'm in.
  6. Ah yes, apologies. I assumed you had a scanner. Duh. Sorry.
  7. Jono, I might also have to make a request for your help if my glueing attempts don't work out, if that's OK with you. I can pay cash....haha
  8. Thanks so much. And I just mix this with a little bicarb of soda?
  9. Thanks. May have to add some ink for colour though. And I'm just concerned that, if it doesn't work, I'll be worse off than before I started.
  10. Thanks. Gluing was my first thought but I have seen many posts saying that glue does not hold on that plastic. I even thought of Pratley's putty or Sugru. Any suggestions for a glue to use?
  11. I broke the left side left of my now-out-of-production Oakley Fives. Do any of you guys think it is possible to print a replacement? Photos below:
  12. Hairy, don't Nikwax make a few products for that?
  13. Yes, it was an adrenaline run for a bit although the photos and videos don't make it appear as tricky as it felt. Not keen to drop that behemoth at a place like that. Some photos from the upcoming video..
  14. Went for a 3 day road trip form Cape town to Gifberg, Middelpos and then down Gannaga Pass. Man the roads there are in a shocking state and the poor beast lost a bolt or two due to the very bad potholes which go on for about 55km. Tiring too. Such good people on the road and the trip was so good for a post-covid recovery.

And for me the highlight was DB40 beating Alex Marquez. I think he rides on his brother's coattails and somehow manages to qualify well by following others in qualifying. I know it's tactics but it really gets to me for some reason.
  16. Geez Ben that's terrible. Condolences but as others have said at least you're OK and it could have been worse. Maybe too soon but can you take at least something positive out of this and consider it now as a project build from scratch?

I was curious to know why BB had such a bad start and disappointing race. Turns out his ride height device jammed in the down position all race. Considering those circumstances I would say he did very well to finish where he did. Despite nearly taking out his brother, haha
  18. Moring all, Took a ride last week with some of my mates. En route we met a very friendly guy who just walked up to us while we were parked chatting at the bottom of Du Toit's Kloof. He just came over to chat because he saw our bikes. Said he was also a biker and invited us to see his bottling plant where he bottles spring water. We went to visit him and he sent us n our way after giving us each a bottle of ice cold spring water and proudly showing us his collection of cars he races at Killarney and then, the finale - he unveiled a Honda CBX and a KTM 990. A proper petrolhead and enthusiast and a terrific guy. It's amazing how bikers gravitate to other bikers and instantly find common ground. From there we went to a place called Bike Forge. If you don't know it, it's another biker restaurant run by another enthusiast just off the R 46 between Wolsley and Tulbagh. A great collection of bikes and memorablia and the owner will talk bikes with you as long as you want. They have spit braais on occasions and big screens for MOTOGP and rugby. Coffee was great too. I recommend it as a break if you're out that way or even a visit as a day ride from town. https://goo.gl/maps/KS7GqbDGVvrcCCih6
  19. Thanks for the info. I currently use a Wild Dog but need to reassess. Can you please give me your guy's username?
  20. I have a question to you all on insurance: I have my bike on comprehensive cover, costing me about R700 pm. It is not on HP. I'm looking to cut those costs. What criteria, other than if it is financed, do you guys use to decide whether to go with comprehensive or just basic cover? Cheers.
  21. Ja, geez. The scam continues. Sanparks, Cape Nature - whoever. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of taking a ride there but won't now.
  22. Can you go right through the area to the dam or do you need permits?
  23. Champion. Just down from the Round House
