  1. Hahaha most white South Africans think its only here that we have problems... The US and Europe are some incredible utopia where everyone is decent.... Shame.
  2. Its the enzymes in your washing detergent. Lycra isna natural fiber, and enzymes will digest it. Enzymes are awesome at removing grease soils, and they even work when the wash cycle is over! That's great for your white cotton shirts... Horrendous for Lycra. So, the solution? No, its not Assos' ridiculously priced tiny bottle of detergent.. Go to your local shoppie, and pick uo some skip DELICATES, or baby, or whatever. They're the expensive liquids at the top of the shelf. They contain basic detergents without enzymes. Just be sure to check the ingredients. If it doesn't mention enzymes, it won't have them. I can't find a powder without them anymore on store shelves. At home, use the baby or lingerie safe detergent, combined with a wash bag (can buy some at dischem) and the delicates cycle on your machine. This will do wonders for all your cycle kit. Should keep bibs looking like new for years... I bought some Assos 6 years ago, and they still look amazing, although the black has faded slightly (can't avoid UV damage, really) but no visible, ahem, cracks.... This may sound like total overkill, but at over 2500 for a single pair, it pays to look after them at washing time...
  3. Cape cycle systems. They wont sell to you, you'll have to go through your Local Bike Shop.
  4. I reckon for tarmac sections you'll be fine. For dodgier dirt sections, it gets hairy but it works. Hydraulic brakes are faaaaaaar superior and avoid both fatigue and the strength needed to brake, and the security they provide over cables is phenomenal. But i wouldn't call it a deal breaker. You'll get by with cables, you'll enjoy riding. But Hydraulic brakesare better.
  5. I got the shockstop after recommendations here. And can confirm, its bloody brilliant. It feels great, takes the sting out of the corrugations, and while pricey, is well worth it if you're on the gravel more than 50% of the time...
  6. If you wanna stay with sunrace, chat to Wayne @ Rapide, i think he had a bunch of sunrace 12spd derailers last time i was there. But i would take the opportunity to rather upgrade to NX/GX, depending on budget. Sunrace is okay, but Sram is way better.
  7. Wait, your hanger is frame specific not drivetrain... Post a picture?
  8. Seems like a proper scam... Bur from that "boxes getting packed and on their way soon" shot on facebook, they only have 8 subs.... 1500 bucks towards bike stuff i actually want is way better than some spray painted box of ***.
  9. Seattube still. Its a much stronger component than a top tube - the issue has always been that the top tube is generally oversized and weirdly shaped, so easy to crush in standard clamps. Add to the thinner walls due to the chase for light weight and comoliance, the top tube is far more sensitive to compression forces than a Seatpost, which are built to take a lot of weight and force for their smaller size. Worst case, slot in an alu Seatpost if you have a round clamp for it. Aero ones, the seattube will be the safer bet than the top tube.
  10. Yeah, ive done this once on a shoddy looking post. I set it to my desired height, marked it, and painted above. Even with a coat of paint on it, the paint will flake off inside the tube and end up causing issues... Painting just the required length will mean you can add good layers with clear, without worrying about clearance...
  11. Sawtooths may look smooth but they're quite amazing offroad and brilliant on it. Specilaized Stellenbosch has stock of the 42c, didnt look for others while i was there... But they're quite multi surface tyres, despite their initial looks
  12. I think a ride venue is decided on a few things from my experience - is the parking safe? Is it way off the riding routes or close? Some extra perks like a bike wash hose and some shoe cleaners could go a long way... Having a small section in the shop with spares and bits that people might forget but need will be awesome too... Having access to toilets and a water point to fill bottles is also a big perk. Having proper, trained security for bikes on car racks while cyclists enjoy their post ride refreshments is vital, or close by, easy to watch and monitor bike parking... It'll take some advertising on groups and forums like this, speak to some of the clubs in the area, and then the investment should pay off...
  13. You can always take some rings cut out of mtb tubes, or just plain elastic bands... Then you loop them round the back of the cage and the top or depressed ring in the bottle... Will keep it in line when things get proper rough... We used to do this on the road bikes, specifically for the Lions race in krugersdorp that goes over the rumble strips.....
  14. Called "Drive to Survive" and its phenomenally dramatised with editing... I wouldn't want to draw conclusions about people from how they're represented on that show...
  15. So, its with a lot of back and forth that ive come to this conclusion - the gravel bike far exceeds the fun i have on the MTB, and the mtb needs to go... Its just waaaaay too much bike for the kinda riding i like... Anyway, ive had much success selling bikes on the hub, but this time, im struggling with a proper used bike valuation - so before i end up on the classified comments thread, i was hoping for some input. Heres the specs: Large Silverback Stratos Al5 frame Reba fork, and X fusion shock (120mm travel on both, fork is boost) Lyne Amp 30mm wheels with XD driver The current set of Barzo/Saguaro tyres, PLUS a brand new set of the same. Sram GX Eagle shifter and RD, SLX crank, and Sunrace XD 10-50. Extra chain thrown in there. No wear showing on the parktool chain tool. Sram Guide RE brakes Headset replaced with sealed bearing KCNC unit. Lyne Pulse bars, Rapide Seatpost, Spez Romin Saddle (155), ESI extra chunky grips The other extras: Spez Concealed carry steerer tube tool with chain breaker and spare link Spez MTB bandit strap with tube, tubeless plug tool, bomb, and tyre lever Spez side load cage and Lyne side load cage... Will include two bottles that actually fit in the triangle, so she does carry two bottles. 3D printed cabke guide to avoid the silly one that Silverback produced - have the original Silverback one too in case someone wants it. Has the upgraded IGUS bushing conversion and the solid main pivot bolt swap done by Silverback. I know everyone says their bike is in great condition, but this one really is fantastic. I've done 1300kms on it. Since buying the gravel bike this has seen three rides, and i really dont ride hard at all (hence my proclivity for gravel instead of MTB) So, what do you reckon would be a fair asking price?? Appreciate the input!
  16. Seems like most bike shops, especially the older ones, will have a box of these they cant shift...
  17. Before we break this down - its an amazing initiative anyway... But they're basically subsidising the donation. Margins probably around 40-60%, so in donating 300k they're still donating a proper whack. And if you can give something back to people and get more people to have some S equipment, it's a win allround....
  18. Are there really no shops or brands that want to get involved here? Would be well worth the PR in exchange for a reasonable discount....
  19. Was amazing to see the response teams sorting out tje fires that flared up on helshoogte while we rode over it... Those fire choppers were amazing, even in the wind... Holding thumbs this gets under control asap...
  20. Anyone have some real world feedback on the redshift products? Really interested in a stem and Seatpost combo, but the Seatpost is heavy and i am leaning towards just the stem... Finding the only hairy times on the gravel are descents and im out the saddle for those anyway...
  21. Not particularly flush at the moment but 300 bucks is on its way....
  22. Advanced Polymers is local and should be able to assist you with the right thing.
