  1. According to law, have to is the correct phrase (or at least us Capies). As per the new law, posted in another thread: (3) A person may not ride a pedal cycle on a public road— (a) on the right-hand side of a motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction, except when passing that motor vehicle or turning right at an intersection; Should, refers to some one listening to sound advice. You should ride one the left, but you do have a choice in the matter. Have to states the imperative that if you want to ride on a public road you have to ( or you will- you cant make an alternative choice) to ride on the left. That is if you are a law-abiding citizen. The law renders the whole thread mute. Safe or nor, it doesnt matter. Its a have to situation. Its like Cassie's rogue thread. He wont accept a should buy a permit. If you want to ride their tracks, you have to. Thats the rule. End of discussion.
  2. Thats what I said! Glad we are in agreement again Dale!
  3. opening or hopefully finally closing another can of worms
  4. I guess this renders the riding against or with traffic thread mute
  5. Yip i thought you must hold the one end tight and to loosen the other...... needless to say, after a couple of bend allan keys and spanners, I realized my mistake.... nooby (idiot) mistake....
  6. 1. buy a bike 2. have it set up properly 3. ride, ride, ride (find a group to ride with. It helps) in that order...
  7. from experience, don't put the allan key from the back and the spanner over the bolt and pull in opposite directions..... that doesn't work...
  8. This seems to be a human nature problem. If someone is a prick, he will be one on and off the bike. Unless the cyclist community makes a united stand against this scourge, we might lose the priviledge of riding the farms all together. Something has to be done.
  9. Schucks. No wonder I went bundu-bashing with my gators the other day.....
  10. I was there on Sunday. They were already busy cleaning up. It seems the damage is only at the last few corners before Houtbay. I'm sure they would be done before February..... I hope..... please not Kaapse weg...
  11. Ride faster.....
  12. I got gators. Never had an issue! Brilliant. Worth the investment......not looking forward to replacing them though
  13. Ouch! All the best
  14. Its illegal to ride against traffic. Opinions dont matter and cannot change the fact, that you HAVE to ride on the left.
  15. Awesome event. Loved it.
  16. What a race! Thanks for the tips. It really help. Posted a time of 4:20 flat tyre and bonking included! Dale I did what you told me not to do. Went chasing after my brother in law agter botties. While chasing all I kept thinking was 'cheap cracker, cheap cracker, cheap cracker'! Lol. By the time I got to them I was finished. Took some recovery km's and formed a group with some other guys, till my father in law got a flat. Then it was just me and him for the last 15km. But, it was good! Looking forward to the Burger!
  17. Got my juice and my gel and my snacks. I'm ready....
  18. I'm in. Will be my first century ride. Cant wait!
  19. Ja, that looks like a TT bike...
  20. Schucks! A first time for everything I guess.
  21. will do!
  22. yep! My thoughts exactly. The danger is riding to lekker at a brisk pace and cracking on the climb....
  23. I'll try that. In a group riding the slip, this should work well.
  24. The engen 109km doesnt go through Helshoogte. It shoots to Wellington, then to Tulbach (turning off to Riebeeck's castle). the bitch of a climb awaits just after.... and returning to Paarl on Malmesbury road
