  1. Thanks to oom Jan taks, I got myself an edge 500 from a fellow hubber. Amazing lil machine.
  2. Saturday's ride - https://www.strava.com/activities/364715394 Today's quick trip - https://www.strava.com/activities/365737372
  3. Good to meet you guys. Be safe out there.
  4. I came 110th on my first try. Not bad i guess, just too many gc contenders in one team.
  5. Probably one of the ugliest, most beautiful bikes ever made....
  6. Bellville to Franschoek and back. Incredible day to ride. Wind made the last 20 km difficult. Photo was taken on top of Helshoogte. Awesome view
  7. I was thinking the same a few days ago....
  8. Bought the parts from hubland, cwc and cyclosport and built her myself, with fhe help of a friend. This is my first build. She comes in at 8.4kg currently. Will decrease over time...
  9. Done!! Popped on hospital bend outbound trying to catch leading 3B group. Recovered by UCT, plat ore all the way to the finish. Leka ride. 1:30 unofficial time.
  10. Thank you for never entering again. It really takes a weight of our shoulders...
  11. Guys this is bigger than our vanity. People have lost homes, belongings and some are still in danger. 100's of people are fighting this thing day and night. Cape Town and its people have lost 100's of millions of Rands... And we are worried about what? A sub 3 or 4? A fun ride? Come on guys. I think our people (and us) need to see the thousands of riders lining up in support. Take an easy ride, and show everyone the value that cyclists (with our bad rap and all) can bring to lifting the morale of a city devastated by this fire.
  12. Brilliant! Thanks moderators.
  13. Didnt know it was loaded with carbs. In my mind coming from bread, plastic en preservatives this was uber Paleo (-ish).
  14. My wife - being very supportive - sends a smoothy with in the mornings as my breakfast; Peanut butter, Bulgarian double cream yogurt, honey, dates, cacao and bananas. That thing is potent. It keeps me until lunch. In the afternoon I eat leftovers (usually mince, meatballs or chicken with veg). Snacks are fruit or biltong. Lots of water and coffee (somethings you cant give up )
  15. I'm also around 15 days. From what I read, the first month is the worst. Vasbyt chomma. Careful of boerewors - MSG, gluten and preservatives galore.
  16. Took a late afternoon ride over polka and krommerhee. Bloody hell the wind was strong. Downhill on bottelary felt like uphill -my legs were burning and I could get past 25km/h. Uphill past Palms ( which is normally a nice little knob perfect for an interval) felt like riding up Vissershok on a fixie. Loved every moment though! Brilliant ride.
  17. An update on my previous post. I went for a 50km ride (through Kuilsriver, over Polka, Stellenbosch, Krommerhee, bottelary, bellville). Nice climbs. Problem is the doctor was blowing lovely. Going downhill on bottelary felt like going uphill. Uphill past Palms felt like riding up Vissershok on a fixie. Madness bur awesome. Point is, i only took water and dates. Was brilliant. Popped a date or two every 30odd minutes and constant small sips of water. Felt fine the whole ride.... I am impressed. I am now starting my 4th week of Paleo, have dropped around 3kgs and starting to feel less bloated and more energetic. If this continues, I might just become a lifetime convert.
  18. Damn! Well done! Thats almost a whole you. And here I thought my 2.5 in 2 weeks is hectic....
  19. seperating nutrition and hydration... never thought of it that way. Thanks for the advice. I'll continue to read and test.
  20. Thanks. Yeah, I stuck to the LCHF principles again after the ride. So during a ride: 1. water only 2. bananas, nuts (basically real stuff that contains natural protein, carbs and sugars whats the deal with powdered drinks like 32gi? I use to swore by that stuff during a race.
  21. I am new to the LCHF scene. My wife and I started with Paleo in a couple of weeks ago. Surprisingly, I am doing quite ok going without wheat and sugar and the other nasties (preservatives etc). What I am struggling with is racing food. Usually, I would carbo load with pasta the night before, oats and eggs in the morning, and chocolate, glucose, and gels on the road. Now, I can't and am at a total loss what to eat! For Last Sunday's Argus route ride, I did eggs and my own version of a energy smoothy (bulgarian yogurt, honey, peanut butter (naughty I know) and bananas) in the morning which worked well. But as for the food on the bike, I reverted to the old ways (32GI drink, protein bar, date square, peanuts/raisins and granola bars). What is best for before, on and after the bike?
  22. nice machine! Apparently the circuit he is doing it on is only 200m. Which means, he's going to be turning about double the times Jens did. This also means its going to be quite tough to beat Jens' record.
  23. New SA company law holds the directors of a company personally liable for any lawsuits against said company. Thus, if you screw up as a business you cant hide behind liquidation anymore. So the legal wheels might still rip the new name off the door.
