  1. got bored after about 8 minutes. Soz. but yeah, it's interesting about his plant based meat but after listening to this all, I decided to go online and have a look - the incredible burger being touted and used in some places like Burger King overseas - I found the beyond meat veggie burger online from these people - 2 Beyond Meat plant based burger patties - R160 - are they ******* mad?
  2. interesting podcast http://www.702.co.za/podcasts/133/the-money-show/210935/15-may-2019 listen from 30minutes in about the business of " fake meat "
  3. with Keith Flint's passing , we need a bit of this #RIP I had some ******* amazing times with the Prodigy as part of the soundtrack.
  4. eye on the prize, with the prize the two of you after all this, putting the kids first and you get on with the next chapter. My friend's ex - girlfriend, not even wife, but mother of his child pulls **** like phoning him at 2 in the morning because there's a spider in the house, and he does the 10km odd trip to appease her and for the benefit of his son. And this is about 2 years later. Crazy ****. Good luck, to all of you.
  5. To be fair, usually on a Monday morning the staff haven't had a chance to get in to clean the bathrooms after the masses from the weekend (especially after a race or event) - By Tuesday it should be cleaned up. the toilets usually are clean, lacking in loo paper or soap but yeah.
  6. As promised, though I opted for their 'viking' bread, a dark seeded bread, lightly toasted. The sweet of the papaya well balanced against rocket and capers. I was quite surprised how busy the place was, and its setting next to a comic shop where it's mostly geeks and families with kids. And then my sister In Hong kong sent this... granted she's in expat part of HK but it's nice to see considering 25 years ago, you vegetarian? Eat rice ans soya sauce.
  7. Hahhaa I know right? False advertising.
  8. The two that have been around a while, Greenside cafe in Greenside, and Leafy Greens out in Muldersdrift. There's a lexi's in modderfontein, I love their menu. I bought some take home munchies today
  9. I will
  10. I just had a yummy brunch at FreeFood (for the joburg people) Yea they call it a burger but there was no attempt to make it taste like meat. It's also gluten / wheat free place so no bread. Now maybe one of their yummy vegan cakes.
  11. Saw a message this morning that the Endangered Wildlife Trust is no longer managing the Modderfontein Reserve. I know the trails are maintained by a separate entity, but this is rather sad. I hope it doesn't mean it's going to just become another green space that's left to ruins.
  12. Woolies has come out with their range of meat imposter products. Had the schnitzel tonight.. not bad.
  13. Hmmm, if you drool on my food and I eat it, is it still vegan? hahaa
  14. This morning's brunch. Tofu scramble, roast potato (could've done without that), roasted mushroom and cocktail tomatoes and avo with a vegan mayo So good.
  15. discussions involve discussing, ... refer to Patch's approach.... ie. constructive but anyway that's not what I'm here for ... as you were.
  16. oh **** *backs away slowly*
  17. I didn't say no vegans aren't allowed, I'm not vegan myself. but he seems to come in here to bash everything and not in a constructive way either. much like an atheist popping into a thread about religion having a go for the sake of having a go.
  18. If you're not "vegan curious" why visit this thread?
  19. one of my favourite vegan restaurants does things with vegan cheese and I don't miss my cheese at all.. I decided to try this more for health reasons (lactose) . will it replace that huge block of cheddar or parmesan in my fridge .... look...shiny !!
  20. bought this at a market this weekend. Now if I told you it's a savoury nut spread (macadamia nuts) I think most people would enjoy it. It has a grainy texture to it and a nice taste. But now if I told you what it's actually sold as -- vegan cheese, you might (like me be disappointed) I haven't tried melting it yet, apparently it melts like normal cheese but this is one time where I'd say yeah, don't call it cheese man!!! it's expensive, small 200g tub R50 and I imagine the calorie / fat content is pretty high, but as a "cheese" cracker alternative, or in a salad, it's not bad. on a pizza .... hell no!
  21. oi mate. You're gonna need a spade. Start digging.
  22. My point being in that highlighted bit - don't assume that she loves you so much she wants to look after you all the time. One of the women, 48 she mentioned how not once in the 20 odd years of her marriage did her husband say, hey don't worry about cooking dinner, let's go out and grab something, not even necessarily a fancy dinner. just one woman's POV here. Use it, don't use it.
  23. I think you'll find that the teeth of humans today are already much smaller and the incisors much less pronounced that that of say 20000 + years back.
  24. oooohhhh....I'm triggered ..... chatting to divorced women in the 40-50 age range, most of them came back with the complaint their husbands became like a child that they had to look after and "mother" . These gender roles work fine if they're balanced. Dishes, cooking, laundry is a daily chore, ... is mowing the lawn? the look after your man because you love him is all good and well during the honeymoon phase. It doesn't take long for someone to feel resentful (and of course this works both ways) = and that's when the life outside of the "domestic realm " suddenly seems so appealing.
  25. that video is an example of an eating plan that worked for 3 people. like any other fad or diet of the month , it works for some and not for others, at the end of the day, my take on it: our bodies, and our emotional health is very much reliant on what we consume. These 3 people seemed to have cut out a bunch of other bad stuff, not just greens. My layman opinion if you only eat one category of food, as long as it's natural and not something like say McDonalds, yes you will be healthier, you will lose weight (probably because you're bored of eating) If you're following a vegan diet for health reasons, it may not work for everyone, but if you're doing it out of empathy to sentient beings being used as food, then yes, it works. Every bit of less animal product consumed will make a difference in lessening the suffering of animals. Apparently in South Africa 19 million chickens are slaughtered a WEEK for food. That madness.
