  1. I agree. Ad to that the following: it once happened that I ordered a few items. I received an e-mail within an hour, stating that one of the items are not in stock, that I shouldnt have been allowed to order it, appologising and offering an immediate refund. I am so impressed by them that I told them to keep the money until my next order. That is service! By the way, the other items landed the next day and I am in Pretoria.
  2. Sounds a bit shabby. Anyone else had an experience like that?
  3. Hi guys. I previously posted this query about a(very) old kids bike under tech q&a. I then discovered this thread and I would like to know if you agree with the replies I received. I have to say, it is a bit sentimental and I wouldnt mind spending a few rands. What do you guys think? Heres the url: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/93850-retro-kids-bike/page__st__-20__p__22__fromsearch__1#entry22
  4. Look, I know customer service in the RSA isnt big, but I've also realised that we have this thing of storming out and moaning to our buddies (or the hub)instead of sticking around and taking it up with the owner. This is a good example. I am sure Fritz will use the info you gave him and improve his service as well as getting a system in place to receive feedback. If he doesn't and you don't like it, spend your money elsewhere.
  5. An important thing to look out for when considering towbar mounting options is the height of the rack relevant to the height of the exhaust. The heat from the exhaust can melt the plastic/rubber brackets and tires.
  6. Sorry for the hijack, but I think its relevant to the post. Will the same apply for all coil forks? I have a pre 2008 rs tora sl with coils and if possible I wouldnt want to spend a lot on it

They are notorious for doing it. You have to pump them almost daily. At least for a while. Maybe you should ride more often ;-)
  8. The point is, try not to give your insurer, that includes the agents handling claims on their behalf, a reason to repudiate a claim. Like I said, even if you are right, you will have to sue them and that costs a lot of money. Use it, don't use it.
  9. When you sit on the top frame, do you walk backwards trip and accidently go and sit on the top tube or do you make a concious decision to sit on it?
  10. Until you tell (or someone else tells) the insurance that it broke because you sat on it. Then they say "...not intended use, schmackity, blammity, hoo-ha... claim repudiated...". Then you have to sue the insurance and that costs as much as three of your bikes. Anyway, I don't think it will break either. As I understand, carbon is stronger than aluminium in all respects, except for direct impact from relatively sharp hard objects eg. sudden hard impact against a sharp rock.
  11. Why don't you ask for FP's number, give him a call and tell him what you think? If they do not want to give you the number, check if he is on facebook or twitter, post something and see if he replies. If he cares he will.
  12. I was told at Dischem Olympus that neither they nor the other pta branches have stock of 32GI!
  13. Thanks guys! I suspected as much. JB, if you say the wheels are not the correct ones, do you mean these are too small? Should it be 18"? EigerSA, you are correct. The seat stays are bolted to the chain stays and the seat tube. Made it easy to remove the chain.

  16. Hi Guys, I was given this very old 16" - wheeled kids bike by a family member and would like some advice. Firstly, what make is it. According to the family member it is possible that it is up to sixty years old. It has definitely been re-painted at some stage and the only markings I could find on the components is the saddle, that is stamped "Cycsad Genuine leather 107" and the rear hub, that is marked "Favorit". Secondly, is it worth it and even possible to restore it? Are replacement parts readily available? I have looked around on the web and replacement parts for very old kids bikes don't seem to be flying around. Thirdly, if it is not worth it or possible to restore it, can I build it up as a cool single speed for my three-year old son for when he is a little older. Will modern parts like headset, bb, hubs etc fit it? I will appreciate all the advice I can get. Pics follow...
  17. Thanks for the advice guys! Ill give it a go and let you know how it works out.
  18. I have a Fizik Gobi XM on a X-mission Comp seatpost. There is an incessant creaking noise with every little movement on the saddle. Its driving me nuts! It sounds to me as if it comes from the saddle area rather than the seatpost clamp area. What are the possible causes, how do I eliminate and treat each of them? I have tried cleaning and putting a little bit of Q20 on all contact points between parts. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
  19. Get a Weldtite Tubeless Puncture Repair Kit. Its the best. If your LBS doesnt stock them tell them they must start to.
  20. What do you guys know about and think of Magura Louise(spelling?)?How would they compare to cr and xt?
  21. Good advice. Thanks. Is the auto disc brake cleaner really necessary? What does it do except for removing dirt?EtienneB2010-01-19 02:00:53
  22. I did the same in Decenber and, even if I have to say so myself, became quite an expert. I keep looking for excuses to do it again. It also means that, if you are willing to waste some sealant (and have the time), you can change tires for different circumstances or terrain without having more than one wheelset.
  23. Cool, now I'll start acting like one. Bring on the questions!* *The author of this post will not be liable for any damage, injury or loss of life suffered to anyone due to advice given.
  24. BOS, I haven't been riding that long and hence don't consider myself an expert. I am riding Monorail LUST in the front and Crossmark LUST in the back on Mavic 317XM rims. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, all I know is that I often hit rocks hard enough that some of the sealant blows out between the rim and the tyre on both sides (it has happened that I had to pump the front wheel because it lost quite a bit of pressure), but I have never had any tears or holes like you guys are explaining. I have had a hole from a large sharp object that had to be plugged, but that's it.
  25. I thank those of you who contributed with advice. It seems that some people have a problem with the fact that I asked for advice. I needed advice, in general, on the purchase. The comments that were made (by other people) about the stickers is just one aspect isn't it? For those of you who feel that I shouldn't have asked in the first place, move on to the next thread and let those who feel that it is a valid question reply. What is the purpose of having 'tech Q&A' on a discussion forum like this one where all the information you could ever need can be found on the web?
