  1. Sounds like a gravel race?
  2. This article is a bit strange. Firstly this is not even anywhere near comparable to the actual subject of the group which is road events. Multi day events are just insanely expensive. How do you expect the younger crowd to actually afford that? I’m sure we’d all love to try and have an epic under our names. But for me personally as a millennial, id rather take that money and take my family on a lekker holiday somewhere. I would just find it extremely selfish to spend that sort of money on myself when I already spend so much every year on bikes and other nonsense.
  3. Was supposed to be this weekend. Looks more likely next weekend now.
  4. This looks like a great option. Also 130km’s is not too long so I might be able to rope in some company. Have you got the actual Strava file or link?
  5. Have you got a route in mind wrt to Franschhoek pass? maybe I should just do Bainskloof both sides? What would be the best/safest road? Slanghoek or R43? Will probably be solo. I have one buddy there who I will ask if he wants to join but not sure where his fitness is at.
  6. And just by posting this comment you’ve basically reopened this can of worms just when it seemed to have been finally shut for good.
  7. Guys I might be in Worcester next weekend and looking for assistance with the safest route. I’m trying to do long distance in prep for DC so looking for some safe routes. Is it possible to do both safety wise? If not which is the better climb to do if you could just do one in terms of safety? And also what’s the best route in a bike? Bear in mind I need to stay and end in Worcester. Also in terms of refueling/coffee stops is there anything on the top of each pass? Thanks
  8. Assos has a huge reputation for having the best bibs. Whether this is true is a different debate. They’re also quite pricey though so if you can afford it, consider. They do have regular sales as well so just keep your eyes open. If you want my personal opinion, i think it’s a lot of hype. But again, I weigh around 57kg so that could play a big factor. I do think the bigger you are, the more this comes into play. I’ve used quite a few of the well know brands, Assos, Castelli etc and I dont think there’s much difference in it for me. I got a Campionissimo bib for dirt cheap on sale not too long ago which is supposed to be their top of the line one and again, I honestly didn’t feel any difference. I personally think fit is more important. If your bib fits right, you’ll be comfortable. A lot of times people don’t want a super tight fight but this also means more friction. So for me make sure there is no movement by your chamois. If your chamois moves because its too loose, then that causes friction and irritation. What Assos do have though is the chamois working independently with the bibs which is supposed to prevent any friction. However if your fit is spot on then to me that doesn’t play that big a role.
  9. I like this idea of clubs taking on each other, Almost like a league where you score points for every event.
  10. I dont think the idea is that farfetched. If you can climb over Chappies and suikerbossie then you can do Ou Kaapse and black hill. I wonder if the reduced interest on the side of the more serious cyclists or the ones that come out of hibernation a month before the Argus.
  11. I get that but Cape Town has loads of different routes that are quality beautiful. Also, I’m not suggesting change the entire route, but just certain parts. Switch it around a bit. As an example, instead of going left off the M3 towards Fishhoek, maybe go right and over Ou Kaapse Weg and then over Black Hill and then around the peninsula. Or climb Red Hill as an option. Or perhaps come over Constantia Nek as we did for a year. There are loads of things that can be tweaked just for some variety. The problem is they shortened the finish up Odendal as well. So you basically removed both climbs and that actually made the 99er a bit more unique than the other Paarl Wellington loops.
  12. Is this any different to the Stans one which I currently use?
  13. I dont think its as simple as that. I think people are just bored of doing the same thing over and over. I honestly think event organizers should consider changing the routes just to make things interesting. If I take the Argus for example. I remember a time where if you didn’t enter within the first couple of days you wouldn’t stand a chance. I haven’t entered for next year but im pretty certain i can still enter now if I wanted to. That shows the interest is just not there anymore. I think a new route, perhaps even a tougher route will spark more interest again. Let’s be honest for us capetonians, a 110km ride around the peninsula these days is almost a weekly affair. Make it tougher and dont charge us more. If i want to do a double Argus why must i pay twice? Doesn’t make sense to me. SO yeah for me newer routes and tougher routes. Another thing which puts people off is no refund when events are cancelled. Surely there must be a way around this?
  14. What is this tube kit that you speak of?
  15. My word these things are ugly.
  16. So just another moving part that can potentially fail, will need additional servicing and will just increase the already steep cost of maintaining a bike.
  17. Honestly mate, as a non-pro cyclist I’d happily sacrifice a few watts if it meant a better looking bike. Case in point the new Oltre. I get that it’s probably super fast but how much benefit is an amateur going to see?
  18. These bikes are really beautiful. Just a simple, elegant design which i love. Quite pricey though which is unfortunate.
  19. Think we should all make him a low-ball offer on gumtree. Then he can make an ad on gumtree complaining about people low - balling him on gumtree.
  20. Cant believe I missed this.
  21. This actually pains me to say but I’d rather have spaces there with a normal handlebar and lose the 1 watt saving I’m gonna score with that hideous handlebar slant.
  22. So a couple of days later and I’m still puzzled. How did they approve this design?
  23. Ladies & gentleman, Season 2 is here! The plot thickens with Lionel once again going back on his word.
  24. Quite the Hambini love fest in this topic. A bit surprised tbh as he seems to have become popular mainly on the account of being an absolute ********. I personally think he’s a massive fraud but that’s just me. His praising for anything French is also suspicious and makes him completely biased. What’s more surprising is how easily people believe what they want to believe.
  25. Season 1 is done. Last episode ended on cliffhanger with Lionel getting a job. Now we patiently await season 2. So many unanswered questions, so many plot twists. Gonna be fantastic.
