  1. Sounds like my wife's Suzuki swift, daily driver with 3800km on it after 3 years.
  2. This is great advice.
  3. I have my current bond with SAHL and previous ones with Standard and FNB. I havent noticed any difference between the 3 other than the service being substantially better at SAHL. One thing to mention, if you plan on adding on then keep in mind SAHL doesnt do building loans. The flipside of that is that if you improve the value of your property then you can borrow against the higher value and get the money back that way. Im currently going through that exact exercise where Im building quite a lot on to the property and using savings/family loan which I will replace when it is completed and re-evaluated.
  4. The rebranding under the global holding company started a few months ago. It officially started kicking off from 1st of July though. My understanding is that the team name will stay the same but the name of the technology partner for the TdF will change to NTT. The DD name will remain in Africa though, its a well recognized brand where as that isnt as much the case through the rest of the world.
  5. At least he would make it over the mountains in relegation time Hoping Steve does something interesting again.
  6. To be honest I dont think he can. That time passed at least 2 years ago and there is way stiffer competition in the sprint game now.
  7. I thought exactly the same thing...
  8. The majority of subscribers I know who still have premium are only in it for the sport. They need to look at international broadcasters like Fox sports etc who all have proper online services where you can pay to watch a single game if you like.
  9. The problems DSTV have are larger than their subscription costs. Repeats Old content Tons of boring content PVR helped a bit in terms of schedules but it isnt a silver bullet either. After having watched nothing but internet based tv for the last 4-5 years its very hard to go back to something like DSTV and try going through channels to see what is on. Netflix, Hulu etc are just so much better.
  10. Their self service stuff was fairly decent from what I recall. The call centers and walk in centers were always terrible.
  11. Restoring hand planes is a labor of love, you get something very special with a lot of history behind it in the end. Both Carrera and I have restored planes we got from our grandfathers and there is something very special about using a tool that you know was used by family. With regards to sharpening I would recommend starting with sandpaper in various grits on a piece of glass or an offcut from a marble/granite counter top - you can generally get them for free from places that install those tops, there are always cut outs for sinks etc. Just stick down sandpaper and go through the grits, it will be properly sharp. Get a honing guide though to get the correct blade angles, BPM toolcraft are in your general area and have some nice cheap ones.
  12. You can get fairly inexpensive diamond discs at pretty much all hardware stores that do a great job on those surfaces. You need to get it up to a polished surface again so a kit with the different grits helps. Otherwise you can go the sandpaper route on an orbital but its going to take a long time and you need to keep the surface wet. A spray bottle does a good job of that.
  13. I know a guy who might have a few waiting in the restore pile... Watch out it gets pretty addictive restoring them though(I should know!) Are you sure 4 and 6 are the sizes you would want? I dont use my no4 much, generally my LA block, no5 and no6 get used with the block and no5 seeing the most action of the lot. Im pretty sure I can sort you out in any of those sizes though for a very reasonable price.
  14. Puppies that are separated too soon are prone to separation anxiety for a bit longer than ones that were around the mom for long enough. There are so many different schools of thought here.
  15. I like Ben, when you first see him you dont expect him to be the type of guy he is. He has some real skills too.
  16. Is that to hold a dressing file to angle the fret ends? If its for fret leveling then you need a much longer setup. Crimson custom guitars on youtube has some great vids on that.
  17. Been watching Matt for a few years now. He has some really cool vids on stuff he slabs up on his home made sawmill too. Always nice seeing what is inside a log when the cuts start.
  18. So after even more research it looks like a fairly reasonably priced device. The ORP sensors are expensive as heck and if you wanted to DIY something like this you would be in for probably around R2k for parts. The real problem would be in finding value in the measurements taken, what those mean against your pool volume and in relation to that how much of x chemical you need to add. Im normally the last person to recommend commercial solutions but this one I wouldnt try and DIY.
  19. I have never heard of it before but it looks quite interesting. Seems to use a Sigfox network so that means it will probably run on sqwidnet which will probably attract a monthly fee too. Its a great idea though being able to monitor key metrics in the pool. Would be very difficult to DIY something like that because of the required amounts of chemicals to add and figuring out what those would be.
  20. I was looking at that one a while back, its a really cool project. I see they are commercially available now too but at around $3k they are stupidly expensive. DIY definitely the way to do it.
  21. So I have always wondered about something... why is it that every case I have heard of where someone is trans they are always attracted to the sex they were born as? Could it be that for eg they were born male but were actually female and therefore not gay before but just born as the wrong sex? Such pondering, such things.
  22. As is the case with everything in SA. Politics always gets in the way of progress. Its like the Eskom catch 22, they need you to use less power to be able to meet demand, but they also need you to buy all of the power they can sell you to stay aflot. Its why municipalities want to register solar panels etc, they still want you to pay them the same money in the end.
  23. A Tesla actually makes more sense in SA really. You can even use is as a power source for your house when there is loadshedding. Most trips are around town and in traffic and if you setup a solar charging station at home can be fairly low cost to keep it topped up.
  24. I hope Tesla manages to pull themselves out of the slump they are in at the moment. The cars are really awesome.
