  1. Wow that was a great reply! thanks very much for that. I think work to residence might be the one to go for then, I have checked various positions available and they all range from $95k-$125k so that should make it a viable route to follow. Im going to do some reading through all the links you posted so that should keep me busy for a bit...
  2. Hey everyone, been following this thread since the very start but need to find some info it anyone can help? Im looking to move to NZ, but Im not even sure where to start or what type of visas etc to apply for? I dont have any degrees but I have many year of experience in some highly specialised IT areas. So what Im wondering is do I look at finding employment and then trying to apply for a working visa? Does the company get involved to confirm employment and make the process easier? Or do I just try and apply for a work visa and see how it goes?
  3. Apparently a few of the glues we get here are just rebranded versions used elsewhere. Alconin ultimate is apparently just titebond3, even the product descriptions are identical. Im going to try some of the quick setting stuff when I do my next segmented project for some rub joints.
  4. Just noticed that sneaky bottle of glue behind mr Makita. For the price its awesome stuff, I have yet to have any issues with it for normal gluing operations. Gelmar in general has some pretty good prices.
  5. Sign is awesome stretch, was that lasered?
  6. Been doing some boring stuff lately, wife wanted a medicine cabinet built etc which kept me busy but is too boring to even post about! I did make this though from a slice of London Plane tree I had lurking about. I left it as I had cut it with the chainsaw and turned a square(ish) bowl from it. The wings are so thin you can literally bend them. It was more an experiment than anything else but it came out ok. There was a driftwood log that I have been eyeing for the last few months on the beach, I notice it whenever we go for a walk. I checked and it was still feeling pretty solid despite being on the beach for so long, so ended up taking it home one evening - this process was a story for another time! Anyway sliced it up wondering what I would find and was pretty amazed at what is inside... Its a black stinkwood and man does it live up to that name! I have never smelt anything so vile when cutting it up. It literally smells like fresh cow poop. I should have take a pic of the complete log but this was one of the ends I cut off to give an idea of the outside. And then the piece I was really after was this crotch, check the curl on that sucker!! Just need to get all the small bits done Im working on then I can turn it and see how it comes out. *very* glad my new respirator and its organic filters arrived this week.
  7. Finger joint jig for a router.
  8. That is a great pic, love the feel of it.
  9. Would love to see a pic of that. I like unusual woodworking tools.
  10. Im pretty sure its an Elu router. Frasgerat which loosely translated though google translate means milling device.
  11. Wow some really awesome stuff been going on in here lately. Im not seeing the thread in my news feed so missed it all until now.
  12. I would advise against pine for anything outside! I still think the idea of getting them planed will have the best end results. Will be nice and uniform thickeness at the same time. Meranti is an outdoor timber so Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to breathe some life back into them.
  13. Normally Im not a fan of the weathered look but it suits that deck nicely. Im sure there must be a way of preserving it. The wood looks like its not in a bad condition so the screws might be been popped out due to expansion and contraction over the years.
  14. Hmm never done a deck before but planning to do one soon so keen to see what everyone says. If the holes that the screws were in originally are too damaged then you could also try the kreg deck jig, it will go in from an angle so the old holes wont be a problem.
  15. Oh Jaguar shark why did you have to eat Esteban??!?!? why?!?? ESTEBAAAAAAN!!!
  16. I also have them fabric magafters on my one bike, not too bad, just takes getting used to.
  17. And Im done, this sure was a long project for such a simple result. Still its something I will keep so its probably worth it. As much as I liked the warm colour of pure shellac Im glad I had to sand it all off and start again because the shine I got off the new finish is really something special. Old finish:
  18. Guys Shellac has become a swear word to me, seriously that stuff I spent an entire week putting down coats and then thinning off and buffing with 0000 wire wool etc. Needs 24 hours to dry in between so its a slow finish. Anyway the cool thing about shellac is that its able to go over any finish and also able accept any finish on top... In walks microcrystalline wax... So I put the finishing layer on top and buff it to heat as per always and in one section the shellac melts! yes it totally melted into a resin blob. It also left a big ring of missing finish from the bowl. So long story short I had to use 6 sheets of sand paper and a ton of meths to get it all back down to bare wood and start again. There was a lot of anger involved. I have now mixed up a batch of OB shine juice(1/3 shellac, 1/3 meths, 1/3 BLO) and Im two coats in, should have done this from the start because its seriously awesome stuff. The shine is just out of this world and the way it brings out the character in the wood is amazing. Should have the finished pics up later this evening or tomorrow.
  19. Stretched has got some seriously cool materials, he is the guy to chat to about making it look nice at the same time.
  20. That last line, seems like a pretty amazing place.
  21. Nice KD ratio there. I played with BFC in the earlier times and SSG in the later games, we always played 1st div but most had already lost interest by the time BF4 came along. We did play in a some of the early competition but that was about it. I wasted too many of my younger years gaming when I could have been doing sport instead, at least Im done with the gaming though!
  22. I started my competitive days in BF2 then BFBC2, BF3 and ended on BF4. Played DGL in all of them. Ended up selling my rig though because gaming was taking too much time.
  23. You use wood filler to fill in the gaps and get it even, would probably have needed to do it before it was painted though. wood filler is nice because it sands easily. Builders mate might still work though to fill and sand even, then give it another coat.
  24. Im watching a divorce unfold with a couple that I know, youngsters that should never have been married in the first place. Fortunately no children involved but they cant agree on finances and assets. The amounts are so small that its not worth fighting about but they are about to be diluted further as they are going to have to get lawyers involved now.
  25. This is also true, its not uncommon to use components with blacked out logos because a pro feels it is better than the product their sponsor produces. Still with computers its not exactly rocket science and its not going to affect performance as long as its consistent. So really they are all fine to use.
