  1. Lefty Supermax (and Dyad) killed off on these models.... will hopefully make them sell more easily to conservative customers, but I am too sad now. Will take a day or two before I can start swooning over the new bikes.
  2. The vibe, format and riding is great. Looking fwd to it.
  3. Respect, I am not gifted that way - if I get up to ride at 3 in the morning there is no way I can do my job properly no matter how committed I am.
  4. ooffff...will have to save what I wanted to reply for Friday
  5. I am guessing here (this is what I do most of the time anyway) , but it might not be that it would not fit and still act like a shock, it might have something to do with the offset of the axel that has changed since the Lefty 2.0 and that would influence the handling - not in such a way that it does not work, but not optimal. (I told you I was guessing here)
  6. I have often come across comments that Leftys are complex / delicate things, but I have only been impressed with how Cannondale (and the local agents) sort out issues.
  7. I get what you are saying and it is very true that we all prioritise... from small indulgences and vices all the way up to things like the infrastructure that SA managed to fund for the Soccer World Cup. Maybe in the interest of clarity - My point was that it can be about the money even when it is not a question of affordability. I will not see the extra R510 in my bank account or reflected in balancing a budget if I do not enter, conversely I also will not need to forgo anything in order to enter... but that does not mean I don't have a sense of whether it is worth the money. And this time I thought meh... and I had that feeling the moment the cost popped onto my screen - which I find interesting especially if I look at what we spend on races and equipment in this game. So, no this does not mean they have priced themselves out of the game, but it does mean that for some it is "about the money". The same way that there is no shortage of moneyed Epic entrants, there are people who can afford it, but who chooses not to mostly because of the perceived value. That said I should stop writing about this or else I will have to get off my soap box and buckle under FOMO :-) Enjoy the ride guys and gals
  8. Not for you, but for some it does - I secured my lottery entry and while going through the payment process I had a moment of clarity - it just seemed like it has become too easy to just keep forking over more and more money every time - maybe it is time I spend that R510 on 3 bottles of wine rather than chasing sub 3 bragging rights. I will be sure to go ride my bike somewhere epic for free on the 12th of March so that I don't feel like I am missing out.
  9. No, my bad: he does not use bar-ends, the grips are held in position close to his hands by Newton's second law....
  10. Unimpressed: he still uses bar-ends!
  11. a) A specific model motorbike recover the costs over several years where with bicycles we have the poor manufactures change the bikes very year. Disagree: The bulk of the components on bicycles are outsourced and produced in greater quantities than those on motorbikes. I don't think Shimano and Sram are struggling to amortize development cost. The frame is typically the only important/costly bit that is unique to the specific bicycle OEM and thanks to Chinarello Spazello bikes we now know more or less how much they really cost to make- and often they carry over multiple years with only paint and build-kit changes.
  12. Any experience with the longevity/performance of these cassettes? I entered, but am notoriously unlucky so am about to go buy one.
  13. I don't go around comparing the size of mine,. but I'm definitely in the middle-aged zone and I am happy to call it small if that is all it will take to get me one of those :-)
  14. Good Luck Deon - and thanks again. The best way to keep riders out of areas that they should not be is to provide them with alternatives - opening up sections should help a great deal.
  15. seems that the 3 is often the sneaky buy - this time it looks like a black. My Flash carbon 3 looks pretty much like a team edition if you don't know what you are looking at :-) So good news is if you like the look and the ride and can handle a few grams extra you can have a "budget black" for a fraction of the moola. I had a look at the Carbon 4 and Alloy 5 on the Cannondale site - seems more than decently specced.
  16. The top-end bikes (from most of the OEMS) have always been ridiculous especially the past 5 years or so, so yes R200k is stooopid money for a bicycle, but it is sorta irrelevant to me - I don't aspire to own a Cannondale Black or top-end S-works. All it actually says is that you are either a sponsored pro, or someone who is overpaid and underbrained (sorry - I know it is a gross generalization, but it is Friday after all) More importantly - the Carbon 3 and 4 still look like they might just be awesome, and they are just normally-ridiculously expensive :-) not stupidly-ridiculously-expensive.... so hell yes, I will sit and think about it on my rides over the weekend.
  17. who's your daddy? - those shoes are mine!!!
  18. Right guys, entries closed. Time to squeeze those thumbs furiously....
  19. I'll sponsor Darren half the cost of a Slate for this, if Omnico will pitch in the other 50% - that way I can have a "demo" Slate afterwards for half price :-)
  20. Mine just arrived - less than 24 hours since placing order . Three sets and delivery for less than R400 - kudos.
  21. The only negative so far is the Dawn Wing courier tracking site bombing out on me, but hey that is very minor and not detracting from how impressed I am thus far. If the quality is on par with the rest of my experience this could be that rarest of things: an honest deal on something in the cycling industry! In which case Luvhandles deserve what looks like it might be a decently full order book.
  22. This little guy looks like he made a turn at the vet (half-recovered shaved spot on neck very similar to one my cat is sporting at the moment). He was probably pleading not to have to have his temperature taken again....
  23. looks like your bike shrunk in last weeks' rain... ;-)
