  1. Wow! I have a PDF copy of "Sled Driver" here which is what I'm going to read after I finish my current book.
  2. Not sure if it was this guy or a previous guy who said "I knew something was wrong when I found myself outside of the airplane" ;-)
  3. Cool - I'll watch that tomorrow :-)
  4. My friend Angel and his three dogs. We were out trail building for Zona Zero. As said above, there is no smooth or comfy ride in these things! Seats are like planks of wood!
  5. Europe right now . . . .
  6. Southern Africa right now . . . .
  7. A lot of bad people were given free passes after the war.
  8. We normally see a load of contrails about 15km east of us - it's the main corridor from the UK and France to the Spanish holiday airports down at the coast. Haven't seen even a hint of a plane for weeks now.
  9. I had no idea sharks went so deep!
  10. Watched a documentary th other day about the "space race" and they said exactly the same thing. Lots of German scientists workng on the early rocket projects in the US after the war.
  11. Seems I took a couple of pics of it when I was there in 2008..... I'd forgotten.
  12. The tail colour looks right, so could be. Cheers.
  13. This guy did a couple of hundred miles, at speed, towing load . . .
  14. Where my son works they have several new Landy's - beautiful vehicles, rearview parking cameras, heated seats, everything. They are often driving over fields and coutry parks and towing heavy trailers of sound equiptment. One new guy finished packing up a job, drove in 4WD out of the park and then headed of at full speed down the motorway without deselecting something or other and destroyed the gearbox. Someone with more knowledge of these things (DJR?) than me can probably explain exactly what it was he probably did......
  15. Jeez - It's hardly Parkour is it??? Muppet.
  16. Friends of ours here in Spain have an old Landy. They bought it second hand when they got here because they needed something to pull a trailer and "do work". I hate to think how much they've spent on it so far, thousands . . . . and Euros, not Rands, The last big job was after something went wrong and one (possibly more) of the pistons melted and fused with the engine block. I saw the engine when it was opened up and the middle of it was just a blob. They're currently in the "we've spent so much on it so far, we can't stop now or it will all have been a waste" stage of life . . .
  17. Just looked at the SAA Museum on streetview and saw this one.....
  18. There was one of these at Rand Airport - a few years ago I believe it was doing charter trips. Not sure if it still is.
  19. Beautiful. And the vehicles too.
  20. Can you imagine their budget? Not the "published" figures, I mean the real figures. . . .
  21. Pics?
  22. A few more from Lanseria. These were guests arriving for Nelson Madelas funeral on 10th and 11th December 2013.
  23. OK I'm trawling through my HDD while we're locked indoors and coming across all sorts of stuff . . . . These pics are of the support planes that accompanied Obama on his trip to SA back in June 2013. They parked up at Lanseria while Airforce One actually flew into Waterkloof.
  24. (I might have mentioned this story already, apologies if I have!) Talking about B52's . . . . . Years ago a seasoned fighter pilot was on manoeuvres in his single engine F16 over the Nevada desert when his plane developed engine trouble and he had to head back to base. It took a lot of effort and concentration but the pilot managed to keep the plane straight and level and coax it back towards to airfield. Running low on fuel the pilot was happy to finally line the plane up for an emergency landing and just as the runway came into sight in the far distance the airfield tower contacted him and told him he'd have to do an "additional circuit" because a B-52 Bomber, also on manoeuvres locally, had developed engine trouble and had been given landing priority to come straight in..... To which the fighter pilot replied sarcastically "aaah yes - the dreaded 7 engine approach!" Happily everyone landed safely in the end.
  25. A few more that I just found on my hard drive. Look like they may have been taken around the same time as the other ones I posted, although one photo is dated '97, so that one is a bit later. . . . . No idea who the photographer was I'm afraid.
