  1. Looks nice, but it's a long way from the Pyrenees! I guess in Estate Agent "speak", if you can see the mountains on the horizon it still counts :-)
  2. First time I heard this song was on the Animal Magnetism album back in 1980 🙂 I saw the Scorpions at the Monsters Of Rock Concert at Castle Donington, 1986 - They were amazing. The World Wide Live album is still essential listening 🙂
  3. "not perceived, law enforcement is mostly lacking, and when the guys are caught most times they get away with it with a little cooldrink money." Unfortunately I knew a lot of people who were happy to pay R100 at a friday night roadblock after an evening in the bar after work, but complained bitterly when their houses were broken into or their cars were hi-jacked. Don't they realise that the robbers and hi-jackers are also paying the R100 for the cops to look the other way? Duh.
  4. On Tuesday "Wendy" and I took a drive and then an hour or so hike up to the “Ibon de Plan”, a lake up in the Pyrenees mountains. The lake sits at 1920m above sea level and is about 1000m above the nearby village of Saravillo. We drove up to the “Labasar refuge” and then hiked the last bit It was a beautiful sunny day, not too cold, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. We took coffee and cake I've ridden on my MTB up to the lake a couple of times. After Saravillo, you climb for about 12km on a dirt fire/access road. That gets you up the 1000m to the refuge, then you ride through the trees for 1km to get to the lake. Coming down, there's a singletrack / footpath to follow.
  5. We had some heavy rain up in the mountains last night. Today it's working it's way down to the Mediano Dam through the village we rent a flat in. The river is wide enough to cope, so no problem, but there's certainly a ton of water passing over our little weir every minute 🙂
  6. This just came up on my Instagram feed…..
  7. Man, the longer we're away from SA the more shocking these "Danger Area" threads/posts are 😞
  8. The whole album is good, but these two particularly 🙂
  9. Apparently he hit a road sign?
  10. Just had another three weeks back in the UK working. Now I'm home again for 10 days and this Friday is the Guaso Fiesta up in our village. Looking forward to it 🙂
  11. #True Story
  12. 32kg mop . . . 🙂
  13. I've been away from Spain working quite a lot over the last two years and when I am back - every 8 weeks or so , I've been busy with jobs that need doing while I'm here. Then it's time to go again! Now I'm here for a continuous few weeks I'll try and catch up with some more pics and latest info 🙂
  14. After another 8 week stint in the UK - mostly down in the South East (which is where I actually originally come from) I popped back to Spain two weeks ago for a fortnights break. While I was here our next lump of work was postponed by three weeks - so my 2 week break has turned into a 5 week break! I never turn down work and I'd never take a 5 week holiday if there was work to do - but if this is a natural break in our workload and I happen to be stuck at home in Spain for 5 weeks I'm certainly going to make the most of it 🙂 Temperatures are around 30 Degrees in the afternoons, trails are dry and fast and within a few days the river will be warm enough to swim in. Life is good 🙂
  15. Podge may have been "obliged" to wait for MvP if the roles were reversed, because MvP was the race reigning champion, but I can't see that MvP needed to wait for Podge. In any case, MvP was always going to beat Podge if they entered the velodrome together anyway 🙂
  16. Class win 👍🏻
  17. Who throws bottles at riders ffs?
  18. Man - I can't believe its so long since I posted on here! After Covid I started popping over to the UK to work with my son every so often, which certainly helped with our day to day expenses in Spain, but didn't really answer the question as to how we were going to find the money we needed to convert our "barn". Fast forward to present day and I'm happy to say that after some hard work and some personal sacrifice (time apart) we are now in a position where we spoke to our Spanish builder last week and he's working out when exactly he can now start with Phase 1 of our Project 🙂 🙂
  19. I'm visiting my son tomorrow so we can watch P-R together 🙂 I usually manage to miss it until the highlights come on, so I'm looking forward to it. Bring it on!!
  20. When we arrived in SA in '76 it was R2 to the £....... :-)
  21. I used to work for a company that built Ion Implanters - which turned wafers of pure silicone into semi-conductor material for computer chips, using an Ion beam. A wheel spinning at 1250 RPM, which had 20 seven inch silicon discs on its spokes, scanning backwards and forwards through an Ion beam that was firing different weights of Ions at the silicone - the heavier the Ions the deeper they penetrated, allowing multiple levels of tracks in the silicone. All done in a vacuum achieved by Edwards roughing pumps, followed by turbo pumps followed by cryogenic pumps . . . the weights of the Ions were determined by an analysing magnet that bent the Ion beam by 90 degrees. The strength of the electro magnet determined what weight of Ion would bend exactly 90 degrees and therefore hit the wafers - heavier Ions not quite making it, lighter ones bending too much. . . . really clever stuff and very difficult to look at the massive hardware and relate it to the result being something you can only see under a microscope!
  22. I was working at RAF Fairford for RIAT '24 (Royal International Air Tattoo) the other weekend, as I have before. It's great being there in the week leading up to the airshow - we get to see everything arrive and see the jets practising their routines. Also the US side of the airbase is active, so we see the U2 spy plane going out and coming back everyday - no pics of that allowed though. I like to drive up and down the display line taking pics of the planes before they let anyone in or after everyone has left. It's something you either "get" or you don't 🙂
  23. wait til your wife finds the burner phone and the questions begin . . . . 🙂
  24. Of course we Brits are always talking about the weather and crying about something or other. Brits here are no different 😂
  25. I remember the Day Zero thing a couple of years ago. No problem for us here up in the mountains, but other parts of Spain have been pretty dry for a while now. I think the recent rains will have helped - our local dam is full, we kayaked on it last week 😁
