  1. Some skill there.
  2. This one was a sweet little thing, you'd have been fine mate. On a related note . . . In another life I used to work for a company whose head office was in Austin. Applied Materials Implant Technology. We built the Beamline Semi-Conductor Implant Machines that produced the wafers to make the chips for your computers . . . .
  3. When we started talking about looking for private investors, two possible types of investor immediately came to mind. The first was someone living either in SA or Europe, who had money sitting in a European savings account earning no interest. Mortgage/Bond interest rates are very low here at the moment and consequently interest earned on savings is next to nothing. We could offer "something better than nothing" The second possibility was someone living in SA, planning to leave the country, but not ready to leave just yet. They could potentially want to move some of their funds out of SA now in order to reduce any further losses due to falling exchange rates and we could offer them "somewhere safe to put their money in the meantime" Currently we are talking to a couple of people along these lines. It's early days yet, but you never know! :-)
  4. A Baby Bat sat on my shoulder while I was cleaning the swimming pools at the campsite yesterday. Eventually he flew away but it was nice while it lasted :-)
  5. Bonus

    Who remembers?

Those pumps made great water pistols :-)
  6. Nice! Climbs like the Col du Tourmalet and Luz Ardiden which are just south of Lourdes are only a couple of hours drive from us.
  7. Evening training ride from Boltaña up to Guaso and back on singletrack. I have some guiding coming up and I need to stay in shape!
  8. Deborah Cox - Superstar? I have never heard of her ;-)
  9. An evening spin last week along the bank of the Rio Ara towards Ainsa . . . I'm riding between 8pm and sundown to avoid the heat :-)
  10. For the last few days the local news has been talking about a man who is lost up in the mountains. He is Mexican, 71 years old and called Jesus (Haysuse). He has family in the village of Vio which is not too far from here (but further up in the mountains) and they alerted the authorities as to his disappearance a few days ago. Since then there has been a huge search on involving the Guardia Civil, the Forrestal and the Mountain Rescue Service helicopters. Yesterday "Wendy" helped at our local Red Cross office to make and deliver food and drinks for the searching officials and volunteers. It's amazing to see how quickly and fully everyone here responds when something like this happens and we remain hopeful for a happy outcome.
  11. I watched a comedian on YouTube the other day who referred to his kids as "little human petri dishes"
  12. After weeks of very hot temps, looking north towards France and some pretty heavy weather! Some rain to settle the dust would be nice :-)
  13. Sometimes ignoring them just makes them worse.....
  14. My "Summer Contract" has me working from 8:30 to 2:30 seven days a week (Perhaps I should write a post on "The Joys of Working in Europe") . . . Anyway, now that le Tour is over our afternoons will be free and we're going to be doing some more work up at our Project. We're hoping to finish getting the sloping back garden terraced - which involves lots of manual work but not much actual cash outlay - because we have plans to start using the garden while we're busy trying to raise funds for the main Project. . . .
  15. Our heatwave continues . . . . The sun is blazing when I finish work at 2:30 and we're having late afternoon temps of 37 / 38 degrees. Thankfully it cools nicely at night and we get to sleep ok. We've been heading to the river every evening for a swim. There are so many places to swim that none of them ever get too busy . . . :-)
  16. "Inspired by le Tour" . . . last night I put on my racing kit and did a flying lap around one of my fav little loops. 22km and 360m climbing in an hour and twenty mins - stopping at the Plaza up in the Old Town for a nice cold water bottle fill up. I started at 8pm and the average temperature for the ride was 27.4 C.... Route: https://www.relive.cc/view/g37810530528
  17. No, Brian is back in the front seat.
  18. We were in NYC last November, also to see a daughter. We thought we were going to hate it - noisy, expensive, people all in a rush etc but we absolutely loved it!
  19. Riding with mi amigo Jose Luis Sustatxa on the trails around Boltaña and Guaso. I showed Jose our build project up in Guaso and he loved the tranquility of the place :-)
  20. When the album Back In Black came out, I was still at a school. My friend Spike got it and lent it to me to tape. I only had one side of a TDK 60 tape spare so I thought I'd start at the beginning and only tape the songs I really liked. Hells Bells was the first track on side 1 and I was blown away with it. I proceeded to tape every song, one after the other until I ran out of tape. I managed to talk my folks into buying the album for me a week later. It remains an absolutely amazing piece of work. Every single song is just perfect. My old man still says "the songs all sound the same......."
  21. AC/DC at the SECC Glasgow some years ago. I was living in the south of England and I flew up for the show. Saturday night, at the front up against the barriers in an arena full of Scottish rockers! Got Angus's autograph afterwards :-)
  22. I've seen then 18 times if memory serves. I once saw them four times, in four different cities, in the space of 6 days :-)
