  1. Being new to MTB and entering my first winter rides, not quite sure about this so putting it out here for some guidance.. I read somewhere (think a US mtb forum) that one should wait 24 hours for every inch of rainfall before heading back to the trails as not to cause damage to them. Is there any truth to this? I assume to some degree there is as the trails turn to mud that will then have tracks left in them after the ride and when dried be ruts of sorts, but isn't that the nature of the sport. Again, not entirely sure, so was just wondering as here in CPT it has been raining a lot for a few days and want to head for a ride later...
  2. In a way it looks cool, but I don't see it lasting more than 10min into a ride.. Wonder how many of these are actually sold.. http://www.ebay.com/...=item2a3e1924b0
  3. Cool, thanks... Iphone 5 is listed so should work
  4. Sorry... Can't seem to edit... No worries. Bit more than I thought it would be thought. Sandton to Bellville about R462.00

  6. I use CourierIT on a regular basis and have never had any major issues with them and they aren't to badly priced. I have access to an online quoting system, if you give me the parcel dims and to and from areas I can give you an estimate cost.
  7. R950??? Not bad, from where pray tell..
  8. Na, cause then GPS doesn't work, put a pin on your SIM card and then restart the phone, when it starts and asks you to put in pin to unblock SIM card say cancel, phone then still works but only GPS. Basically the same as running the phone without a sim.
  9. If it makes a difference to your choice, I found a way to make an iphone last 15+ hours with mountain biking app and gps. Catch is you don't have signal/data...
  10. Just sported a video on YouTube. This dude modified the mtb mount with remote controlled off road buggy shocks to cancel vibration..
  11. The 3M tape used is some of the strongest on the market, but it is only as good as the application of it. Be sure to wipe the surface that it is being mounted to with some alcohol and let dry before adhering and also as stated flat on flat and curved on curved.
  12. I too was faced with the same question a few months ago when I joined the GoPro club. I ended buying a mounting/strapping pack off eBay for about R300 incl shipping. I came with a fast amount of versatile and interchangeable mounts. I found that the bike mounts really only work well (as stated) for road or close up 'artistic' shots of shocked/gears etc. For crisp clean wide shots of trails helmet is good, but chest is much better, I have even bailed once or twice with the chesty and the gopro was unscathed, whereas if it had been on my helmet it would have been overs. You can reduce the width of the video format so that you don't get too much of your arms or bars in the shot, or even eBay a narrow angle lens that clips on to get right over the bars.
  13. I use the mountain bike version of runtastic. Once you have ridden and recorded the route you can open it on the website and export it as a .kml/tcx/gpx file which can then be imported into google earth Not sure of that helps..
  14. Thanks for the info
  15. Both rims need to be trued and tensioned properly and there is a weird 'click' somewhere around my bars when I hit bumps which I can't seem to pinpoint, so really just want a second set of eyes.
  16. Aah yes, pass them often on rides.
  17. Northern suburbs preferably, but don't mind southern should the service be really good. The closets few to me would be either CWC Willowbridge, Cyclelab Tygervalley or City Cycles Canal Walk.
  18. Was wondering if there was one LBS that may be better than another when it comes to servicing. Have heard rumors like X shop doesn't check certain items or uses incorrect lube, or Y shop trues rims better than X etc...
  19. Cool, good idea.. Thansk
  20. The wheel is true, but if I squeeze a set between my fingers they move closer together than what the back does. Was thinking of giving each one a quarter turn to see what the outcome is, but don't want to screw it up, so might just pop into LBS and ask them to check it.
  21. Think I will visit a good chemist, should find something. Thx
  22. Yip.. If I ride in a straight line but quickly yank the handlebars left and right it seems as if the wheel sways. Not quite sure how to explain it. Its as if the dish goes left to right when doing it.
  23. Checked that initially.. All seems good...
  24. I can't seem to find a topic/answer by searching, so here goes.. I have owned a bike now since September and it seems that the front wheel's spokes are getting loose. Are they something that needs to be tensioned every now and then? And if so, how do I know how much to tension them. It just seems that lately my front wheel has become 'loose' in corners, feels like there is too much sideways movement. Not sure if I am just being paranoid. Edit: I have read an article that says for a specific spoke length that they should ping at a specific key when plucked... Really???
