  1. Bugger! Nicely done! Those dovetails look perfect! What woods did you use? How did you cater for wood movement? You left-handed?
  2. We installed a cupboard at our Mamelodi congregation on Saturday. Somebody donated them a reclaimed cupboard and we had to figure out how to fit it together. After 2 hours on site without having anything to show for it, we were getting a bit desperate. It was like building a puzzle without having a picture of what it should look like... I must say, the crooked walls, bent shelves, buckled supports, broken hinges, uneven floor, etc. almost had us uttering a few expletives during the day! And 10 hours later, we were done. But we were spoiled with High Tea in Mamelodi and Ma Aggie's gratitude made it all worth while.
  3. Fabulous work, well done!
  4. It was actually the U17 boys. The juniors had their own race. Pity I missed the race. Sounds like it was fun.
  5. As per the e-mail I received: All relevant race information (including your race number, starting time, parking address and route to drive to avoid road closures, etc.) will be included in your information pack.
  6. Wow, saw this one on Gumtree this morning, stunning condition: https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-hand-tools/greenside/premium-woodworking-tool-+-rosewood-and-brass-combination-gauge/1002291677700910440051809
  7. Do anyone have a contact for installing solid wooden floors in Pretoria? (Waterkloof) 18 squares.
  8. I see there is an Italian manufacturer that manufactures your cassette according to your needs. http://www.miche.it/en/products/strada/cassette-pignoni/light-primato-11sh.html Bike Components sells their 16-27 as standard item: (Around R 800 before shipping and VAT). https://www.bike-components.de/en/Miche/Light-Primato-Shimano-11-speed-Cassette-p56168/
  9. One day when I am retired, I will make one of these... http://www.soly-toys.com/cars-wooden-models/mack-truck-wooden-replica-model-176.html
  10. Thanks for the table - very useful ! The table shows 46-14 roll-in as 6.896 which is 1 mm smaller than the limit of 6.897 (which seems to be the latest approved distance)? Am I missing something? https://www.cyclingsa.com/s/20180108_Restrictions-for-youth-riders.pdf
  11. Can one fit the 46T chain ring on the Ultegra R 8000 52/36 crank? 46 - 14 will give the correct ratio for U17 with 23 mm tyres. Edit: Fixed U16 to U17
  12. Mine also says 56 km. Start time 06:39 = BL
  13. When I just bought the drill, it could not even do a small hole in hardwood - that was a loose front pulley but I did tighten that. I override the safety switch to keep the top open so that I can see what's happening at the top - it is definitely the belt slipping over the pulleys. I will give the pulleys a proper clean. (No that I can remember them being that dirty.) Thanks for the replies.
  14. Rocket Boy - want another plane? Saw this on Gumtree this morning. Record No 78 Plane. R 290 https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-hand-tools/kempton-park/record-no-078-planer/1002228642690910169909709
  15. I have the benchtop version of the Adendorf drill press. Bought it off Gumtree second hand for R 1000. Not very happy with it: As soon as the bit is under a bit of torque, the belts just slip. I replaced the belts, tighten them as much as possible, feed as slow as possible, speed up, slow down, nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?
  16. Fabulous!
  17. I like! Thanks for the idea - I will add one when I build my lathe stand as well. Have you thought about mounting it inside a drawer to try to minimise dust? Or do you need frequent access to them?
  18. One in Rosewood, please. $ 11 000 base price.
  19. Difference is, you make a living from your woodworking. Most of us only get to the garage after 17:00. So it is quiet the whole day and then maybe 60 - 90 minutes of noise in the evening. We once had a neighbor across the street a few houses down that seemed to have been running his metal fabrication shop from home (in the estate). And he was working on the driveway. The grinder drove my wife nuts! Luckily that did not last long...
  20. Also live in an estate but I push the limits a bit more than R-Boy and Steven. I stop making noise after 20:00. But my lathe is very quiet, so I can use that any time. But I always keep the garage door closed.
  21. The next project is progressing well, should be finished in the next week or three: bedside table for my daughter: Out of curiosity I opened my dust collector to see how full it was - I was blown away to see it was actually overflowing. I could not believe that I generated that much dust since I finished it in November last year! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/160291-post-your-woodwork-here/?p=3225180
  22. A truly Once-off special!

  24. My daughter makes coasters like these, but a warm cup tends to stick to the Decoupage glue, even months after it has been made. Any recommendations to use as a top coat that will be able to handle the heat but not dissolve / damage the picture beneath? (Pardon the pun!) PS: She searched for "Porsche" and this was the first picture that came up.
  25. Trompie! Watching it with the kids.
