  1. Herewith their reply - does not say much...: "Thank you for your e-mail. At Chain Reaction Cycles our cost to serve differs from market to market. When setting the price of items we must take in all the factors that govern the cost. These are examples of a few factors that are taken into consideration when determining the price of an item: • Current cost of the items that are sold in that market by both domestic and foreign retailers • Shipping costs • Discounts and promotions • Seasonal demand Due to the extensive list of these factors, this can sometimes lead to certain categories or indeed individual products having different prices in different markets at the same time. We always strive to provide the items at the best possible price to the customer, in which ever market they purchase. Please Note: Our pricing strategies adhere to EU pricing Law. VAT is not added to the price of the item if the country is classified as VAT free. VAT is not added to the item, if the item is not applicable for VAT. Hope this helps."
  2. "VAT in Northern Ireland: The VAT system in Northern Ireland is policed by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)". This is the same as the rest of the UK. Hence they should apply VAT the same way... I'll send them a mail to clarify. Just for my curiosity...
  3. It seems as if CRC does not deduct the 20% UK VAT: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-105-5800-11-speed-road-cassette/rp-prod116489 UK Price: £29.99. SA price: £27.49 The same item at Evans Cycles: https://www.evanscycles.com/shimano-105-5800-11-speed-road-cassette-EV219234 UK Price: £27.49. SA price: £22.91. Anybody know why CRC does not deduct UK VAT?
  4. Gerald, What will the cut-off seeding index be for VB?
  5. It will be a sizeable refund - will they pay it out there, or send it back to the retailer to do a refund? Flying to Addis Abbeba so no issues.
  6. Sorry Lexx, Last question: I assume she will have to pay there before leaving? What payment methods are accepted there? Hopefully EFT since I will be very uncomfortable if she has to carry that amount of cash all the way... She does not have a credit card, can she pay with debit card? Or can they keep it, I pay the taxes & fees and then collect afterwards?
  7. Thank Lexx, We'll just bring in everything - rather safe than sorry. With the stronger Rand, weaker Pound and end of season sales it is still a moewiese bargain... PS: Will customs add the extra baggage fee to determine the Customs Value? Owe you a coffee.
  8. Hi There, I am considering buying a bike in the UK and my mother will bring it back mid September (She'll visit my brother soon). I am considering to leave the wheels in the UK (I will anyway upgrade the wheels) and my brother will then sell them for me (he's in Cambridge). 1. As long as I can convince the shop to invoice me with a parts list, I should be able to skip the 15%? (because it is not a "bike" any longer). I.e. only pay VAT and the handling fee (if applicable?). Correct? 2. Does anyone have experience with claiming UK VAT back (20%) for stuff bought in-country? Tax-free-shopping-in-the-uk/vat-notice-7041 3. What will the process be at OR Tambo? She will report to the RED zone - what can she expect there? By when / how must the VAT & feees be paid? Would it be possible to refer the discussion to the Customs offices "outside" arrival so that I can assist her?
  9. Really enjoyed the race. Took it nice and easy and still finished a few seconds within target.
  10. With my coach my training volume is down quite a bit when compared to the FitTrack HR programs, but heck, those intervals are tough! I will have 6 months of coached power training by 94.7 time. Will be very happy if I can have a 20 to 30% increase by then...
  11. Done. OUCH. Who's Next? I cannot join the Cadence Centres this afternoon so I did it at home this morning.
  12. Wow! I only started with Power training about a month ago - only cycling for just over a year and only used HR up till recently (and a few FitTrack plans). If I could double my FTP W/kg like that... I will be ecstatic with a 30% improvement.
  13. See Coggan & Allen's Power chart and this good article: http://cyclingtips.com/2009/07/just-how-good-are-these-guys/ As mentioned, the chart is based on Watts / kg.
  14. Done (posted on Facebook), but I am such a greenhorn with social media, I hope I did it correct... (I go sit in the garden if I want to hear some Twitter)...
  15. My Dream In 2007, a mere filly, was I, But dreaming already, racing highest clouds in the sky. Born to the proud, small bloodline of FELT, Top racing honours of F1, I was dealt. In 2008, my young Garmin-Chitpole cousins joined Tour de France, Ready were they, to make their stance! Though a thing they did not win, they did not lose any face, With such a pedigree, I … was born to RACE !!! My first owner a jockey BIG, his name was Rod, So with strong heavy stuff, I was shod. With Shimano R500 up front, and Mavic at the back, This tell you I can, I took a lot of flak. Such un-pair of shoes, what a disgrace, How will I ever, be able to RACE ?!? However, despite the heavy shoes, For years a many, I did not have a lot of woes. Many happy Nelspruit centuries we did, I can say, But then we moved to Gauteng: Please help me pray! All this horrible traffic, Rod could not brace, And now I beg you, how will I RACE ?!? So a dark, rainy day in Sandton, the time was to sell, BAAHHH! Such a useless greenhorn, I can tell !!!! And ALAS! To my worst disgust, A year alone in the stable, I, was gathering dust! The darkest of clouds, descended over my base, Never again I will smell the adrenalin … of the RACE… I was getting ready, to Rest ... In ... This … Dark … Place… But WAIT! Training now we’ve been, just over a year, This tell you I can, our riding went up a gear! Joined at Gauteng Champs and Emperors, the VB lot, And stayed with them we did, on the trot! Though growing old I am, with dignity and grace, I am eventually….: BACK in the RACE !!!! YEEEEEE HAAAAA !!!! With coach Jaco, hard taskmaster at our side, We’re training wacco, for year of next, big Cape Town ride. But I’m afraid I’m still shod, with that un-gaitly lot, If stay like this I do, we’ll surely miss the plot! Right now our hearts, are right in the place, With Darkhorse shod we surely will …. WIN THE RACE !!! So honourable Darkhorse steed, I urge you to do, the noble deed: Please restore to me, my never-had, race-bred glory, The last Golden chapter then to write, of my long story. The competition then, we will outpace, In any … future RACE !!!
  16. Or how about just selecting THE most creative submission? I've spent a lot of time fine-tuning my submission... Following soon... Sure you will enjoy it!
  17. Seems like: 4 June. Enter on Cycleevents http://www.cycleevents.co.za/road-events/kremetart-2016/#more-12119
  18. What would be a good price for this Cervelo R3 Ultegra? It's been advertised since January but only one enquiry. Is it way overpriced? https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/76716-cervelo-r3-with-factory-fitted-ultegra-56cm-new/ I know the wheels are a bit heavy, but I do not know the 3T components or the FSA Gossimer Crank? According to bicycling.co.za, a 2012 R3 Ultegra cost R 51 000. Elsewhere R3 second hand frames are advertised for around R 11 500. So why does this one not sell? How would this one compare to the others mentioned in this thread?
  19. Seems like Cyclefit comes highly recommended! Will make an appointment with them. Thanks everyone!
  20. Which CycleLab? Centurion / Fourways?
  21. Hi there, I used to like middle distance running as child but then my knees packed up in high school. Then started cycling about 8 / 9 years ago and all was fine, but stopped again when we moved to Bryanston 7 years ago. Now we stay in Irene and I started cycling again Unfortunately my knees got a bit buggered recently by incorrect cleat setup. Who can you recommend in JHB or Pretoria for a proper cleat setup? (My LBS did a Ergo Fit and that seems to be OK (except for the cleats), I think). My physio referred me to Activeworx, but their specialist is out of the country for a while (If I remember correctly). They then referred me to The Bike Basement Rivonia (I think they also do the RETUL bike fitting??). Cyclefit Northcliff also seems good. Any guidance between these two? Anyone else you can recommend? Thanks!
  22. I also bough the Galaxia rollers from CWC when they had their previous sale. First time I tried next to the couch - I could not get my hand off the couch. Tried 30 min and thought it is impossible. Next time I set up next to a pillar so that my right elbow can touch the pillar for support (with my hand on the handlebars). Took me 2 minutes to get rolling! Still have to concentrate though - I cannot even take one hand off the handlebars yet.
  23. Determine your correct frame size first. Determine your budget. Go secondhand - lots of good bargains to be had.
  24. How much would these be worth nowadays? Not sure of the spec's though...
  25. Make that Faf and Philander...
