  1. I am riding arch mk3 on the back and crest mk3 on the front and no issues after 6 months. I'm 92kg. Ride tygerburg hills.
  2. Not sure I agree here. A new XX1 cassette will cost around R 5000.00. If I can pick up a slightly used one for around R1700-2000 I will. It is easy to establish how much use it has had and they last forever. I will often just buy them and keep them in storage until I need it. I honestly cannot remember when I purchased a new cassette... probably 6 years ago. The same principle applies to chainrings. I agree on the Chain, brake pads and tyres though. Mainly because these items are cheap and there is no benefit in buying second hand. I will probably never buy a used fork without inspection first. Some sellers don't disclose stanchion damage or downplay it. You cannot repair a FOX fork for less than R 7000.00. I have discussed the issue at length with Omnico and they confirm. The new Rockshox fast black and FOX Kashima coatings wear especially quickly.
  3. Interesting... or is it. I have to agree with most of the comments above. I remember a time when the place to find a bargain was on this site. I've always enjoyed dealing with fellow rubbers because, generally, we are trustworthy people. I have noticed a definite decrease in the number of bargains advertised here and don't spend nearly as much time on the site as I previously did. A major factor which crept in a few years ago was, for example people purchasing the bargain bike on the Monday and advertising it for 20% higher the next day. We then saw an influx of quasi "dealers" who wanted to use the forum to make money, which sadly, has detracted from the interest factor and viability. Having said that I am selling items fairly easily and still purchase frequently from other hubbers..... I have dealt with most people participating in this thread. I ticked option 2 above. Here are the realities/tips: 1) You need to be flexible as a seller - if your price is set in stone (regardless of your valuation) you will probably struggle to sell. The value of an item is (probably) only what someone is willing to pay; 2) Dont bother selling items that are trashed; 3) Don't get upset if someone makes a low offer - say no and move on; 4) Remain friendly when communicating - leave the indignation for your boss; 5) If someone makes a negative comment on your ad don't freak out - they are probably trying to help. I really enjoy the interaction I have with other traders on this site and don't want the result to determine the experience. If I have to give something away because it makes me feel good, I will. Now please find my ads and make me good offers
  4. the fuel ex and anthem x 26er bikes are two of the best 26 duel suspension bikes out there. considering the terrain you are riding the duel is the way to go. i have ridden both those bikes and can recommend them. they will probably climb the rocky stuff better than your hardtail. i have ridden 30 to 40 bikes over the years and those are still two of my favourites. just a note: make sure the anthem is an anthem x and i think the fuel ex issignificantly better than the top fuel just make sure it is 2007 or later(full floater sus)....imho
  5. I can highly recommend BMC. They do fantastic work. They are about to do my tallboy. Cant wait....
  6. might be a moot response but i am certain the creaking is not coming from the frame/bbcup interface. these cups are usually pressed in dry. According to sram the crank shaft must be well lubed when installed. Just a question. Are u riding full sus or ht? and have you eliminated seat or seatpost creaking, they are also usual suspects.
  7. Yip. Hannes is great to deal with. Actually need to place an order with him again soon.
  8. I wouldn't read too much into the removal of the ad. Once an item is sold it is good practice to remove the advert as soon as possible. This avoids unnecessary confusion and wasted calls. I think that raising a possible dispute on the ad in any event is not proper as this unnecessarily "airs the dirty laundry". It is better to deal with these issues in the PM forum first and if the other party acts improperly or just dismisses your enquiry then you can bring the dispute to the open arena for commentary. I think the manner in which you posed your question above was done really well as you didn't name the hubber or describe the product...so no isseus here. i hope that this matter is sorted out as these issues can cast a dark cloud over hub sales, which are generally well handled. Personally (as with most hubbers) i would refund. But that's just me. good luck!!
  9. I agree with Benjamin. I have owned and ridden both extensively. They are both fantastic bikes. I found the trek was plusher and handled better in the singletrack. The trek has a rear wheel bias (more weight on the rear wheel) And it handled really nicely. If anything the anthem climbed slightly better. Note: a few ex framed have cracked. Guys ride them too hard. If you are going to buy second hand check the bike out thoroughly. good luck
  10. Thanks for the kind words. I agree with most of the above opinions. 40% off CWC CRC is a good starting point. I don't agree that the value of the warranty is 50% of the value of the product (assuming it is new). Personally if i sold a product and someone had a problem with it I will sort it out at my own cost if necessary. How many times have guys complained about bad service from LBSs when not honouring the warranty.(giant anthem/trance comes to mind) Although there are hundreds of hubbers, this forum is way too small to rip someone off. The fact of the matter is that you should sell something at a price that will make someone want to buy the product when he may have bought elsewhere or not at all. I sell with 2 rules: 1 be honest (including the description of the product and condition); and 2 offer a refund if the buyer is unhappy with the purchase (within reason, of course) Just my opinion
  11. Not sure on the model but it looks like a more basic sidi. The three standard straps (no ratchet buckle) indicates this. However, sidi shoes are all great and if it fits and the price is good, go for it (assuming you want to but them)
  12. Early 90's. "Thron" was slightly more of a budget tubeset. The thron tubes were pretty standard and most manufacturers would just buy the tubes off the shelf from columbus. You should find quite a lot of information on the tubeset. (just don't make your search colnago specific.) Very nice condition with mostly original parts. Should sell quickly. Not sure on price but as a guideline start at around R 3000.00. Sorry, R2500 (just an opinion, please don't shoot me down) Size looks like a 55cm, and in those days that was considered small, so hence the 170 crankset.
  13. Or we can just call it k@k
  14. Just ate an elephant for lunch. You can see a small bump about half way down Seriously though that is a beautiful animal. Much nicer than a 2m black mamba
  15. Incidentally, black mambas grow to beyond 4.5 meters...........
