  1. The SS took a conscious decision in 2012 to go after anything that could potentially confuse their branded product with something else. the only similarity between a Allez and an Alize is that they both start with Al... I gues to an American that is enought to confuse. For the rest of the English speaking world its obvious there is no confusion. Even asked a Chinese neighbour the other day about whether this would be confusing "no a fluck, wo word velly diflent! he exclaimed. "Chinaman speak velly velly goo Ingrish you knaw!" I believe him yet SS sees it differently. So would you trust a compnay that cannot tell the difference between words to be designing your bike?
  2. IMo the Neil Pryde brand is better established and represents great integrity than SSpeciliased ever could be. If I should ever ride the Epic again I will need to screen potential team mates to ensure they're not SS
  3. question has been answered many times over. these bikes range in price from R100K to R200K new dependign on the wheels and groupset with finishing kit selected. And not everyone sits on theHub Classifieds trolling for the lowest price and then uses that to leverage a new bike from a retailer.believe it or not, there are people who walk into a bike shop and ask for what they want and then leave it to the shop to deliver. believe it or not there are trusting people in the world who focus their attention on the ability to earn an honest living and not spend their bandwidth populating spreadsheets on bicycle parts costing and purchases. Thos that do are in two categories, Obssessive compulsive and ":works for a cycle distributor"
  4. I think she's awesome. Sy'd hulle lekker uitgekak
  5. also watched the clip. they claim that the fake Pina owners came to them for fake bikes. Thats sounds like a load of tosh since I'm sure they would cover their behinds by handing over a piece of paper that says they divorce themselves from all responsibility in the event of frame failure.
  6. be careful what you wish for... Specialised going after other companies for stupid stupid potentia copyright infringements e.g. Allez vs alize, increase the cost to the end user. Its a nice way to justify price hikes, ASG going after the shop again increases their cost and that is carried over to the purchaser. There is already enough information out there to kill the market for fakes. Even a bit of ridicule towards cheapskates who buy these fakes is in order; create a fake market and you should be shunned. Keep it real
  7. They're about GBP8000 to GBP9500 depending on finishing kit (groupset wheels, bars stem, saddle pin and saddle.)
  8. No bru, That tune is "buy my wors"
  9. The question is what failed in that process with the sister getting a new par of shoes? The shoes owner or did the LBS do themselves in because they saw a bit of cleavage and ankle>? We men go all gagga when a good looking woman bats her eyelids. Only natural. If WE fail and allow an exception then surely its not the market that's corrupt, its not the goods owner at fault. The lady took a chance and it worked in her favour. The lBS shot itself.
  10. thermoplastic Injection moulding is a much less capital intensive undertaking compared to thermoset mouldling.Much much easier to replicate a pair of sunglasses than a carbon bike frame. also the raw materials for thermoplastics can be reused in another product. Once thermoset is cured its cured. no recycling, straight to landfill
  11. been posted earlier. Its all about quality control
  12. Yes very tempting, very tempting but if youwait till endof season then its even cheaper.
  13. I disagree on fraudulent warrantee claims. who allow that? there are rules to meeting a warranty claim. That has to be balanced the sales experience. e.g. is the warranty worth retaining the customer? If we had better quality products there would be less need for the warranty. A pair of MTB shoes should last a good few years. ( I have a pair of Shimano SH 221's that is 12 years old) and should be able to last a few wash cycles. If the shoe comes apart within a year, there should be a clear case for warranty just through visual inspection and a simple check on item number on the shoe box. Can't see why there needs tobe huge drama if the quality is in the product from the start
  14. Just to clarify, I never stated that the added quality checks add value, merely that they allow the bicycle brand owner to ensure they are getting a consistent product that will carry their name. Even that is no guarantee against failure and certainly does not equate to value. One reason why carbon fibre bicycles cost stupid money is because carbon fibre is stupid expensive.I recently sepnt R2500 on about 5m^2 of 90 to 230 gr carbon cloth and vectran for a slope soaring RC gliders wing. There more material and wastage in a bicycle frame + mould costs but ya, R70K for a bicycle frame is just stupid money. Kudos to those who can afford to blow that on a bicycle frame but its morally wrong that is what it can cost
  15. I don't buy Spaz products and don't have any warranty issues. nuff said
  16. I know how you feel Escapee. <off to slit wrists due to lack of purpose>
  17. I wonder under what nom de plum tortollini will pop up under next
  18. Holy carp their lawyer suggests reselling a fake at an even higher market value that the goods is worth. Is he a real estate agent on the side?
  19. More expensive than a Polo Vivo. You can mobilise 4 people with that kind of money for probably less energy consumption. bicycle is only green if its ridden a lot
  20. you can walk into any bike shop and order any cycling product. OP said he had been buying from them for 5 years so it was the relationship that drove the purchase. Your question is irrelevant btw.
  21. yeah or if pronounced correcly , Alay va Alease
  22. No because even if the frame came from the same factory or even out of the same moulds, at some point in the production it was rejected as having not met the quality standards for a Pinarello. That can be due to a number of reasons / production flaws. Its only a Pinarello if it passes all the quality assurance tests and standards. THAT is what you pay for, even if it is a little excessive.... A Pinarello gets a serial number because it met those standrads. That's why its a Pinarello. A similar frame without the serial number did not, even if it says Pinarello on the down tube. its even scarier if the frame still has to be painted because it means that it likely did not even meet the production standard i.e. its dangerous as hell to ride as it it is likely to fail. The only way Pinarello can effectively stampe ths out is to move production back in house, but then the profitability takes a knock and investors don't like that! Fake Fakes are copies. Genuine frames are taken, cleaned up and a mould is made up of the frame. The mould is then used to manufacture fake frames but generally these frames will have obvious blemishes as finishing a mould (especially the polishing) is a very labour intensive process and therefore not cheap either if you want to manufacture a lot of fake frames. tooling and moulds for carbon bike frames are also very expensive to the point that making a mould means there's little point in copying a frame that way. Its much easier to take a reject and complete it with generic finishing kit (bb cups, headset, dropouts, cable guides etc)
