  1. fit stronger springs
  2. Some wars have been over women too... Somewhere Headshot makes a point about runners needing to respect that MTB'ers have so few trails therefore they should respect this and stay off our land....hmmmmm thats not the kind of argument thats going to win friends. As a user group we are large, are propelling vehicles with the capacity to inflict serious harm to users and cause more erosion in a National Park. We're not entitled to the use of the land, it remains a privilege. Hence we have to carry a level 3 permit and get serious uphill from SANParks. Runners don't carry any of that baggage. If they don't pay, so what. If they run on our trails then in certain areas this raises a safety issue. These area need to be identified and signage applied to raise awareness of the danger a 650b in the crotch poses. We all know 29er were created by God himself so theres no dnager there. They're too slow anyway This is not an issue of land rights, its an issue of safety.
  3. very very bad idea. faster pawl wear...
  4. how can he be dropped when he wasn't considered..
  5. Trails need to be built in a manner that suits what the terrain can support. Pointless building steep unarmoured trails in a sandy dusty environment because it will erode so quickly it becomes unsustainable. The skill level required to traverse the trail is then really up to the trail builders creativity since sustainable does not have to equal dumbed down and easy to ride
  6. Pretty much the Lefty's damper with different tune and the solo air airspring moved to the right hand leg
  7. Hullabaloo deal with anyone in Cape Town. Epic Bike Shop in Wynberg and WIlliam's Bike Shop in Somerset West are two that I KNOW sell Rocky Mountain. If you want and RM and can't find it then you're not trying...
  8. Good job!! Very very nice bike. I am in love with the Element 999RSL Its the Emily Batty of MTB's
  9. beer is problem solving potion. tank them up
  10. Hulkenbergy doesn't bring in the kind of sponsorship money that a top team is looking for. Kimi brings in a good $30Mill a year.
  11. Come on Droo, I thought you had more self respect than to work on a spz. I'd let them work on their own S**t. Love RS for the simplicity and servicability. Also I suspect RS-1 is a Lefty with another leg but will confirm when I get my hands on one
  12. wheel only turns as fast as you can pedal it
  13. Have you seen the price of Cycling shoes!!!
  14. too fast for you?
  15. Lets hope trail running becomes the new golf so that MTB can be cheaper again
  16. just saying having someone who actually runs, is diplomatic and a keen cyclist and respected in the cycling and running community is useful. I'm sure many mtb's are reasonable and sympathetic to runners needs but at what point does objectivity fail.. same counts for dealing with the horsey types btw I don't run so ....
  17. They coined S-works when Lockheed was in the news a lot because of the Skunk Works products; F-22, F-35..... They felt they needed to compete with some other brands that has more zoot and zing to their names than a simple word from a dictionary only found in one country. I'd take the ViPa. In fact if I could I would make my next bike as non American as possible but unfortunately I do like that SRAM XX1 a Lot (even though SRAM is actually designed and developed in Germany and has Saxo Franco roots Sachs-Huret) it may have to be Swiss or Canadian with Japanese parts. No if only Shimano would talk to Showa about those shocks...
  18. Hey Deon, hope you have someone on the committee who runs...
  19. how does that song go again....?
  20. this fred are epic fail
  21. hwo can you add to the polling options when one cannot vote on those options since they have already voted previously typical ANC run thread
  22. there are trails that are now over grown on the northern side of Vasbyt, running close to the fence. these can be reopened (first need to find them again but that shouldn't be too hard) and used as the "UP". We can accomodate runners on this section. SANParks don;t want new trails built but technically these are not new, just out of use... I also strongly advocate the need for all mountain bikers to have a bell on the handlebars. It must also be dayglo pink in the interests of visibility.
  23. Eish, same old vitriol from the Hemorrhage. Get over yourself, mountain biking existed before you bought a trail bike. Those trails have ALWAYS been built and maintained as MTB specific trails. The Horsey trails were always built and maintained for horsey types. Trail runners have ALWAYS used the mtb specific trails, long before you became an important part of the MTB chain. So why should trail runners now suddenly stop having access to the same trails and paths they have been running for years? Lets hear your safety argument not just your sarcasm. All this is going to spark is another fight with the trail running user group. the more fights the MTB community has the less popular we're going to be.
  24. No they're not. The trails that are currently in use have been around for 24years at least! They just get closed, allowed to recovered and then rebuild again. What is now known as Vasbyt I helped recover and maintain in 1991 when MTB was still only alloed because Mr Botes allowed it! Also please define purpose built...?
  25. Safety is the only justification to keep the trail runners off the MTB trails. Signage is needed at both ends of the mTB trail and any junction. There are many. Running clubs need to be informed by TokaiMTB and SANParks. A compromise may be that the runners are allowed to run up and down the trails during specific times of the day when the MTB traffic is less heavy but this needs to be evaluated. it would at least allo the MTB community to be seen to be wanting to accomodate other trail users but safety again must be the primary motivation for any outcome. Charging trail runners for trail use would be a good start. Aren't they supposed to have an activity card? I thought they were level 1 permit? Trail runners should be encouraged to run with huge flags on the heads like the hand cyclists use in the August. This way we can see them a mile off.... every group of trail runner must be lead a lady sporting 32D mimimum.
