    Stand-up

When I watched it in the 90’s Kramer was my favourite character, but over the years it has changed to George. My YouTube feed keeps feeding me a constant stream of short Seinfeld clips and they still crack me up. One of my favourite George scenes: https://youtu.be/Vj32JZzG80Y

    Stand-up

I love stand-up comedy and in particular intelligent/offensive/controversial comedy. I’ve shared some of my favourites on other threads before (Burr, Chappelle, C.K.), so let me open with a lesser known one (Steve Hughes). This one is almost 10 years old and still as relevant as ever. Really hope to discover some hidden gems here before the whole thing is shut down all together. https://youtu.be/60VUtxmN1IE
  3. This team of the decade made me dig a bit on the IRB world players of the year and also SA players of the year. In the process I stumbled upon Joe van Niekerk’s story. What an interesting guy! The man is living his dream like a yogi in Costa Rica. How cool is that!
  4. Agreed. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Springbok supporter so don’t have any particular affinity for him, but very few players in an apposing team made me as nervous as he did. For me he is up there with Lomu himself. Lomu never scored a try against us, but he created many with the number of players he draw and the opportunities he created as a result.
  5. I agree he is a polarising figure and very few rugby fans (especially in the Southern Hemisphere) lack an opinion about him. Let me put this argument forward: a player worthy of team of the decade should feature strongly in the game strategy of the opposing team. As a metric, how many times was his name mentioned in pre-match strategy sessions? Based on this metric I propose that McCaw is a worthy winner but SBW must be high on that list.
  6. I liked him. That offload in the tackle defined much of backline play the past decade. Even if he is known for only that, its not the same as being known for big or strong or fast. Many players are known for those things, but very few players single handedly change the game. He changed the game.
  7. I did not pay close attention, but surely Sonny Bill should have featured? Maybe jumping back and forth between Union and League cost him, but inventing the offload in the tackle should count for something. Definitely one of the most influential players in the last decade?
  8. Or just a storm in a teacup. People are entitled to their opinions, but not all opinions deserve to get this much airtime #EFF #Brackenfell, etc, etc.
  9. What I saw was a ball that should have been left for the keeper. He however got quite a few players to take a swing at it. That in itself counts for something these days I suppose.
  10. https://youtu.be/3zbW4SoHLNw Shout out to Darren Simpson.
  11. Stocking up on one of the newly announced Platter 5* wines. If Bellevue Reserve Pinotage does not float your boat, then you can rightfully say that you don’t like Pinotage!

  13. A lot going on with that watch. Love it!
  14. I had to read that a few times to figure out “no chicken run” = Element [emoji12]That bit where you cross over the river after the drop-off looks like a bomb went off. Can’t believe how many trees are down.
  15. A strong contender for the annual “Best wine with the Worst label” award. Never judge a book by its cover!
  16. New watch day [emoji122]
  17. Topwatch has an in-house service center. They should be able to sort you out. They are in Centurion. You can get the address on topwatch.co.za
  18. He sure does. Not exactly cheap but damn good. He is a passionate wine maker and a very interesting guy. Listening to him passionately taking about the artist he got to “paint” his wine labels or going on about the difference between Swartland Chenin and Paarl Chenin is really something. I have many irrational passions but he takes it to the next level. We need more of his caliber.
  19. Pleasantly surprised by this one. Received it as a present and did not have high hopes based on the label. I have no idea about the price, but I suspect it is punching way above its weight. Will have to try and source some more.
  20. Ironically the Cape Town Good Food and Wine Expo at the CTCC used to have a public voting system where attendees voted for their favorite wine at the expo. Almost every year a Coffee Pinotage won....
  21. I think its a very misunderstood cultivar. In my opinion there are three different styles: plummy cheap Pinotage, Coffee Pinotage, and then the more expensive Pinotage (Pinot Noir style). I am not a fan of coffee Pinotage (although it is quite popular) and the cheap Pinotage is like any other cheap red wine. There only a few estates that make the nicer one and they definitely don’t come in under R100/bottle. When done well though, its one of my favorite cultivars. I do think it blends well though. There are a number of Cape Blends that punches way above their weight.
  22. I love his analysis and he is incredibly knowledgeable. He might need some Ritalin though. I find myself constantly rewinding and pausing to catch everything he says (with subscripts).
  23. I have noticed that Pinotage is not receiving any love on this thread, so let me do my part.
