  1. I'm 189cm and my race bike was a 54cm. Use that as a measure
  2. I wonder what do these guys qualify for, MTB'er, Roady, Cross Aaah Northen Classics, the heart of cycling
  3. Thank you very much for the well wishes. He is the reason I have such a passion for this sport. The bike he rode that morning was a white Cannondale Criterium which he bought new in 1988. Prior to that he rode a red Peugot Marage. He also rode often a Handsom tandem with my mom I thought I'd post a few of his special cycling memories.
  4. Today there is closure.... Some of you may remember there was a fatal bike accident on the Durban Circuit (close to Blue Lagoon) last year in which Dr.<?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Willem van HeerdenonName> (72) was run over by a hit-and-run car. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Unfortunately that was my dad, and here?s what took place The accident took place on the Wednesday morning of 30th July at 6h00 while my dad was on his usual training ride alone. He was hit from behind and was killed instantly. 2 runners, one of which was well known ex pro surfer Pierre Tostee. A group of bikers was first on the scene. My mom got worried after hours of waiting and went looking for him, even seeing the police car still at the scene not thinking anything of it, phoning hospitals and so forth. Eventually, around 11h00 the police managed to trace my mom and came to break the news. A special thanks to Mr Craig Parker Proctor an accident investigation specialist who did such a fantastic job at tracing down the suspect?s car (a company vehicle of a cousin) in Stanger at the panel beaters with the bumper already replaced and a new windshield being fitted. The suspect and 2 others were recorded on camera gambling and drinking at the Sun Coast Casino. The vehicle?s (matching the witness? description) registration plate was also picked up by camera and being a company vehicle, it was fitted with a tracking device. The suspect was arrested the same day somewhere in Durban, and charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, defeating the course of justice, failing to stop after an accident or failure to render assistance to the injured, driving without a licence and driving under the influence of liquor or drugs. My mom phoned me at 14h00 A memorial/ protest ride was arranged the following week in which, I don?t know, but at least 1500 cyclist pitched. After a heated and emotional debate the city police prevented the ride from taking place. However, just seeing so many riders sacrifice their business time to be there was awesome. Thank you if you were part of it. I was truly impressed in the manner in which the police handled the investigation. No stone was left unturned and the detail of the forensic investigation was very impressive. Although this is not normally allowed, the inspector conducting the investigation invited me to explain exactly what they did, how they reconstructed the accident, evidence, etc. I was very grateful for this and as I said, I left with a feeling that the best team was on this case. They said that the case enjoyed so much attention because it was the first case in SA in which so much evidence was available in a hit and run accident, and that it would be used in future for training purposes. After countless appearances in court since last year, the accused defended himself by stating that he either had to hit my dad, or hit an oncoming car (no skid marks or oncoming car seen by the witnesses). He was to appear in court next week again for the conclusion of the case?it will never happen. He died of a heart attack this morning
  5. Naa, don't worry, it keeps the dream alive, esp since I'm no longer racing and will be looking at getting more wet action myself 50ft is pretty big though for paddle-in surfing. 30ft was max I thought (or maybe the 50ft is only hitting later and then only the tow-ins will be called to action)
  6. thanx Holy, thank you very much...and we've been sitting with the bloomin South Easter for weeks now

  11. 7800 has external cabling cause it makes shifting more direct and smoother than rooting it under the bar tape (as is the case with 7900) That's only one reason why 7800 is still the best
  12. Hope it is for Ironman, that race is worth the ICU bill
  13. By what do you recognise the bike, the little scratch on the chainstay?
  14. A cheap, successful way of building a track wheel is using an old 6speed hub. They don't have a freehub body, but is rather only threaded, the freehub was part of the cluster which screws onto the hub. The threads are the same as a track cog but doesn't have the smaller opposite thread for a lockring. However, should you really really want a lockring, you could use a taper BB's lockring - they fit and there's enough thread on the hub for both the cog and lockring.
  15. only have a choice of black, red, blue & green Kansas rather save the 150 bucks and go with white Fizik or silver and if you live in Postmanshoop and your bikeshop only carries those colours, the guys from the city can post you the stuff
  16. If your old chain didn't skip in the gears and the new chain does, I don't think it is your cassette that's shot. I had a prob with gears jumping even with a new cassette and it turned out my chain ring was refitted wrong way round What I'm saying is there could be something els than a worn cassette causing the issue
  17. You may have bragging rights with that mechine!!!
  18. Ricky Bob daai's 'n cheap Point Street HIV invested Chinese Hooker!!! Sy gat vi jou ry lat jy hik (van die cheap champagne)

  22. So after all the negative comments on forums across the globe about how ugly and silly those arty farty bikes of LA was that he rode this season, he has raised $1.25mil for his cancer foundation with them. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/armstrongs-custom-designed-bikes-raise-dollar-1-25-million Remembering that one of his objectives with his comeback was to raise awareness for cancer, I think there's plenty people out there that would love to have one of those farty bikes if they're willing to spend up to $500k for one <?: prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" />
  23. Best place to buy is at www.thehubsa.co.za Best bikes, at the lowest prices guaranteed
  24. Stem issue is solved Will replace tape when worn out.... Rotate your handlebar (traditional bend - nice) so your STI's are lower And change your cable housing. There's various options, from I-Link to Aligator to Nokon etc. whatever floats your boat, but its cheap and makes a statement
