  1. Dr. Michele Ferrari's Comments - 53x12.com ../img/spacer.gif Giro d' Italia 2006 - first part By: Michele Ferrari Published: 22 May 2006 At the Giro d? Italia, absolute domination of Ivan Basso on all his rivals. After the victory in the TTT, Ivan strongly climbed over the Maielletta (940m of difference in height, gradient of 8.4%) in 31?48?, expressing a VAM of 1775m/h. Paolo Savoldelli, in rather evident respiratory troubles, climbed at 1642 m/h, that is about 8% slower than Ivan. In the ITT a few days after, Basso rode the flat 50km at an average speed of 50.6 km/h, Savoldelli at 49.9km/h: supposing a similar aerodynamic efficiency, the difference in power output is about 3% in favor to Basso. On the tough Colle di San Carlo (10.5km at 9.8%) Ivan bettered himself: VAM = 1820m/h, equal to 6.27 w/kg, notwithstanding the rainy conditions and the almost 2000m of altitude. Paolo lost more than 3 minutes, with a VAM of 1670 m/h (5.75 w/kg), approximately 9% slower than his rival. Since Savoldelli conceded an additional 5-6% in climbing performance, we can deduce a difference in body weight between the 2 riders of about 4 kg. If this is the case, imagining a weight of 67kg for Ivan Basso, his average power output on the climb was 420 watts. Savoldelli, with a weight of 71 kg, pushed 408 watts. A difference of 2.9% that would confirm the result we saw in the Time Trial.
  2. i havent seen anything of the giro, tour or vuelta this year....just the online live updates eheheh
  3. huh? To mail them our race tactics doc? Who you chaps riding for? I bet they had the same tactic in mind heh! But knowing Michael Jackson, he will attack from the gun.
  4. I have no clue about this hill but anyways we should see it as an opportunity to attack the Orange boys
  5. du0d! They have got NOTHING against Basso, the only thing they got on him is his dog's name (LOL!) on a piece of paper. He is dedicated, pure talent and hard work..Just like Lance I will be back soon, and I will be winning races again - Ivan Basso
  6. du0d!!! I reckon we ride hard at dis-chem and klap a LSD at the Craddle ? The orange boys will be at the Dis-chem!.. we need some numbers there. I think Johan said he is going to race the craddle rather. I will speak to Coenie and Hannes.

    BB Problem

heh! thanks Jason. This BB thing was driving me nuts.
  11. Anyone got more details? A cyclist was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Kempton Park on Thursday morning, Ekurhuleni metro police said. The collision occurred on the corner of Andre Greyvenstein and Pretoria roads at 6.15am, said Inspector Kobeli Mokhoseng. "We are still trying to identify the cause of the accident but there were no eyewitnesses we could interview." The driver of the car claimed he did not see the cyclist, resulting in him hitting the man. The cyclist suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital. Traffic in the area was reported to be backed up with peak-hour motorists. Sapa

    BB Problem

Guys, what is a BB ?
  13. I dunno if anyone would be keen. I entered the Harties Cycle Challenge this coming Saturday and the plan is to do it as a training ride I will be too tired to even think of racing it Afterwards I want to do another 50km LSD to start building up some stamina. I wanted to go out on my own but then I thought I'd rather take advantage of an organised race as it is much safer than going out on your own for a 100km ride. If you are keen, drop me a PM and we can organise.
  14. for this race you will have to be properly warmed up. there are a few short hills early on and then it goes crazy up hekkie..ehehe!
  15. eheh thanks! The soloist is cleaaaaaan.. those guys at the bicycle shop cleaned it!!.. i dunno how they got it clean but it looks brand new The guy said he used Mr. Mint Yep me and Man with no name doing it!!! Watch out, we are two
  16. So who is doing this race and who will be riding in A open ? All the best and I hope you guys have a good race
  17. I reckon I am also going to skip the argus. It seem like too much of a mission and too many people. I will also much rather be doing the TDL again.
  18. I recently started training on the road during the week, I never used to do it before. I am more confident now . I am gonna do my best to keep it up!
  19. into the wind it is fine but when it comes from the side you really struggle and wobble all over the road.
  20. i went out this morning at 3:50am and about ten meters out my pedal snapped on my training bike .. turned back to go and fetch my other bike.. went out for my ride and on the way back i was confined to a stretch of wet tar Grrrrrr...!@#@#%$@#@ One of the guys came down on the tar, luckily only a few bruises. My whole bike is a mess now, my clothes everything is full of freakin taaaaaaarrrrrrrrr!@!#@ My clothes, my shoes .. noooooooo!!! That stuff sits like a tattooo on everything. This is not where i want to be on a Thursday morning . First stop - Dry Cleaners, Second Stop - Cycle Shop for a service... faaarking helll!!@!!@ Now I feel a bit better
