    Die Burger MTB 2014

If I remember correctly, it was shortly after we passed through underneath the road. It was on the right hand side of a farm gate. I nearly missed it as well.

Great time but not as many riders for you to pass as some of us in Group E. An addition 100 riders to pass in single track tend to make a difference and add to frustration.

My Garmin times also differed in previous races until I switch off the Auto pause function. You'll find it under Settings (spanner)/Bike Settings/Auto Pause. Every time you stop at a water point, held up in in switchback or single track, the timer will stop. My timing was spot on, but the route distance and climbing were different from that advertise by die organisers.

Good point, there were numerous times in the race where we came to a dead stop on the single track. At one point myself and the guy behind had enough time to strike up a conversation. There were many instances where slower riders, seeded in front of my group, could not negotiate the ascending switchbacks. The organisers should not use a swift entry as a seeding. Nevertheless, it was lekker.

According website, the route profile of the 60km were suppose to be 1930m of climbing. My Garmin only measured 1431 climbing and 64km far. Did anybody else have a discrepancy?

I agree, traffic was terrible at the end. Tip. I always have a folded R50/R100 between my cell and the cover and/or with my spares on the bike. I don't always carry my wallet, but I always have my phone.

Good luck Dots. Oh well, anybody else have an 60km entry willing to sell it?

    I am looking for a 60km entry.
  9. I fell myself straight into Durbanville Hospital at a rockgarden on a singletrack in Jonkershoek, from forgetting to unluck the shock on my hardtail. A specialist , Dr Frikkie Rademan, (who happens to be a MBTer) attended to me and has a Epic Marathon. He convinced me to buy one. Due to the Brain in the front shock, no more forgetting and un/locking shocks. I went and bought one as well. (I suppose to make up for the lack of talent) Its a lot of moola, but I agree with Johny B. Its a great bike and my case, its cheaper on the medical bills.
  10. Pressure is a bit high? I run 1.7 front and 1.8 rear.
  11. I hose the bike down with a normal hose. Then apply some carwash soap with a spray plastic trigger bottle and rub the dirt off with a paint brush. Hose down and dry. Then lube.
  12. After doing the Bastille Festival MTB event in Franschhoek today, my missus and I wanted to enjoy the festival. However, I picked up about 5 kilos of mud on the trail. We wanted to eat at the Le Quartier Francais (fancy boutique hotel) in the main road, but being so dirty, this kite was not going to fly. True to her form, my spunky missus was not going to let some mud get between her and a nice lunch. She promptly asked the manager of the hotel, Eleanor, if I could have a shower. Eleanor, in Bastille festive spirit, asked her staff to show me to a very nice hot shower complete with shower gel, shampoo, soap and towels. This without any expectation of our patronage. To top this, Eleanor even mixed a recovery drink for me. I sometimes cycle from home (Brackenfell) and stop there for a “Franschhoek Energade” which is indicated as a Sticky Bun on the menu. It is fantastic source of energy for the return trip. This is a very nice place to eat with the pricing lower than what one would expect for a snazzy place such as this. It is newly renovated has a very upmarket feel. Thanx to Eleanor, Hettie, her staff and Le Quartier Francais! http://www.lqf.co.za/
  13. Four guys tried to take my Roubaix from me about 3 months back at the very same spot. They telegraphed their intention and I took evasive action. I was lucky to get away untouched. The cops say they target single guys/lady and even two ladies cycling together. According to the cops, the hot spot is from Stellenbosch, to Bottelary, Kromme Rhee to Klapmuts Road and back to Stellenbsoch. This incident made me sell my road bike. I only ride mountain bike now, but I am armed wherever I ride.
  14. I ride from home and after dodging all the moegoes who want to steal my ride on the way, a frostie, the burger, a cappucino and a slice of orange & almond cake fills the gap.....
  15. There are Specialized logos on the downhill boards for obvious reasons............. other brands of bikes might not make it to the bottom in one piece... ugh...ugh...scott...ugh....ugh I don't know which is better at Ride In, the food, the vibe or the amazing coffee. And, if the pro's hang out there, ..........I rest my case
  16. About two months ago I took delivery of my Specialized Roubaix. Sunday morning 5H30 I left home, rode along Bottellary and turned right to Stellenbosch with Franschoek being my destination. Across from Beyerskloof Wines, 4 black guys approached me with intent. Fortunately, I realise something is up and with savvy and awareness, I got out of it by out manoeuvered them. I reported it to the cops and they said that the stretch from Stellenbosch to Krommeria to Klapmuts and back to Stellenbosch is a cycle hi-jack hot spot. I sold my Roubaix and are sticking to enclose trails.
