  1. I had a GS (pre LC) before the RR. And for a laymans gravel tourer you will not get any better! Allow me to explain. BMW service is out of this world. If you break down you can either phone BMW on Call or you can go to just about any little bike shop to fix it. For general gravel touring in SA and Namibia the GS is great. It is not for technical riding though! The KTM is more suited to this. The GS is helluva comfortable, whether gravel or tar. The GS is a brilliant long distance tourer if you want to take the other half on little backroads. SWAMBO and I did a 4000km tour last year, with no issues. More than marketing and Hardley Dangerous lifestyle the GS success is due to word of mouth. And maybe some wannabe's The GS will always stay a go-to bike for me if I ever decide to get back into gravel riding. At present though I prefer the faster rides. Funny enough, so does SWAMBO (did a 1000km one way ride to Margate on the Blade a while ago. AWESOME roads in the Midlands). I know the chirp is going to come that you can't tour on a speedbike. And to those I want to say that you don't have a clue or don't have the balls! We did a Buffalo Rally tour in March (without SWAMBO though). Total for me was 3700 km's. And we had a lady on a R1 with us. I have also done a tour to Langebaan (Vlakvark rally). Did the trip back to Jhb in one day, 1489km. Thanks for the compliments guys. *Edit for grammar!!
  2. OK, feedback from my side. I have lost 19kg in total now. Been doing MAF training, mostly in the gym and on my trainer at home. I did do a 50km on Sunday. Over and above feeling that I was not working and swearing at the HRM I felt very good. No chow and only 3/4 bottle of water. I have been planning a fast once a week as well. I will probably do this on a Monday. Will keep you up to date.
  3. And here's the other one before a breakfast run with SWAMBO (that's why the backpack and extra helmet is there!)
  4. I've had her for more than a month now. Still scares the living crap out of me, even though my other baby is a 1000 Fireblade!
  5. Thanks HBO. I'll pop into Dischem tonight. Big time drop on power (purely anecdotal observation though). I am going to do a long one this weekend using MAF principle and then LCHF eating to see what happens.
  6. Been trolling the interwebs after we (SWAMBO and I) started in LCHF "reg eet" 7 weeks ago. I have lost a total of 17kg and 7cm on the tube so far (and I cheated 2 weeks ago, BIG time!). I still have far to go though. The last week it has felt as if everything slowed down. I do however think it's my dairy consumption. My training has not been up to standard, very little cm loss, I'm tired, lethargic and very bem03rd. SWAMBO has cheated more often than I have. She has lost 8kg though, but she usually craves normal, 100% OJ. No idea why. Her BP has stabilised and dropped dramatically though. From levels where our doc panicked to barely above normal! So now the questions (I'm on page 26 of the thread, so if it's been said before please excuse me). How do I calculate the F/P/C ratios? How can I test my ketone levels? I saw someone mention sticks, etc but I can't find anything at the local pharmacy. I am starting on MAF today. I did see that it is not advisable to race, but we've entered for Amashova. So treat it like a training ride? On MAF, I live in an area with very little flats. I have seen quite a bit of improvement on my riding, but I am worried about the rolling stuff while trying to keep the HRM just there. Any advice on this? Am I having carb fever again due to cheating? I try and go riding every morning. We then get to work and after work (5-ish) we go to gym (various reasons, but SWAMBO is not comfortable with getting up at 5AM to go riding). Will one of the bulletproof coffees help me to go longer before breakfast? Will USN Phedra Cuts, etc. help? Or should I rather avoid. The same with CLA? Where oh where do I get proper organic chicken with the skin still on? Our Woolies have the best cuts, but no skin! Why would SMABO crave OJ?
  7. Brickleberry, more than fair. But a lot of sellers put a high price on items purely to allow for negotiations. So if you're asked for "best price" then maybe you should give it a gap.
  8. Nope, those I just chow...
  9. 2 items bought from hubbers. I personally prefer to SMS and chat to a buyer. That way I can judge the seller and move on from there. It's saved my @ss!!!
  10. Pick me!!!! We just can't stay away né BB
  11. I like!
  12. After a long negotiation I got this! Now after 6 years off the bike the build starts. Panorama here I come (I hope)

  15. Cycling is seen as an 'elitist' sport by the masses. And in any case, the cops can't investigate murder, htf are they gonna stop a bike jacking? Joke this country!
  16. Nope. Not riding this weekend. Might cycle a bit, but need a chill. The liver is having a hissy fit.
  17. Until someone close to you is affected. It's called the "only happens to them" syndrome. Maybe go sit with murder detectives one day.........
  18. Mikhail Kalashnikov died in 2013. Was on the TV and and all. He still designed a LOT of other weapons. O ja, the AK-47 went into service in 1949. So your logic is all wrong. Agreed!! I have been in a similar situation a few weeks ago. Fortunately no firearms but the BL|KSEMED me with a m03rse stick. I got away, but am quite shaken. Malcolm did the right thing. A bicycle/car/motorbike in THAT siuation is not worth more than your life. Carrying while on the bike? I won't, but it's purely because of my "falling" habit. Once again, each onto himself. Finally, for the anti-firearm group, wake up!! If you don't like me carrying a firearm, keep it to yourself. Don't judge me because of MY freedom of choice.
  19. Spokey, has the doohickey (valid word) been replaced on your KLR?

  22. Our office is moving to Bryanston mid June. What is the safety like on William Nicole, Sandton Drive (uphills there), Rivonia, Oxford, Bompas, Rosebank areas? I usually ride alone as I start at 04:00.
  23. Spaaidie, nope. Lost the bike for 6 years after my run in with the lady in the car and my Colnago. But getting back s..l..o..w..l..y! I see you're braaing met kole. Need to get a roadbike soon..... Just to get back into things.
  24. The chowing and drinking is very important. Don't rely on the chow given at the stops!
  25. Waste of money, except if you're, as per Maxxis, on a DH or AM bike. Same on motorbikes. Nice toy, for the first 5 rides, then just too much work.
