  1. Oh. That one in particular is one you don't want to test malunion on. You may end up with a pap toe tip. Class mate of mine has one on his ring finger. Annoying. Well done for achieving it. Moerse hard stamp! With regards to non-union rates with what you may or may not be attempting on your IDT. No idea. Ask your GP to consult the local foot ortho. Naas Terblanche is the main guy here in WC. Every area has their own superspecialist. Hopefully they say its fine or even recommend spinning IDT. Ortho guys tend to love recreational athletes. Since we heal better and come back regularly with more "business".
  2. Problem is the activation of your halucis longus muscle with plantar flexion. It involuntarily contracts. So you can't splint it out completely. May or may not affect the callus formation (healing process). Worst case you cause non-union and pseudoarthrosis. Where exactly is the fracture? Like a hairline avulsion vs proper proximal phalanx transverse displaced? Who knows. Maybe some ortho doc on here would be able to answer. If Richard de Villiers was still with us, we'd know for sure. Sigh.
  3. Why don't more brands do the double row bearings?
  4. Decathlon waterproof cycling jacket without the hoodie. First year I've been commuting in all weather. No complaints. Been wearing compression shirts and long sleeve kamikaze trail jersey underneath.
  5. Mushroom plugs are such good money savers. I rarely chuck tyres that aren't bald anymore. Lekker rubber cement and if need be a socket (for the outside stump) on a g-clamp and wood block to get it nice and stuck over night. Just remember to rough it up propper and take latex off.

    MTB Grips

Been on a set of wolftooth fat paw (9.5mm) cam shaped grips for a few months. Can wholeheartedly recommend them.
  7. 88kg at 1.88m? What is that? A musculoskeletal system for ants?! When I was 10% body fat in university I used to weigh 112kg at 1.90m. Obviously more multisport oriented back then. (fyi, now I'm just propper sedentary/poor diet fat.) BMI is a bit of an archaic way to look at things. The medical industry is now focusing more and more on frame appropriate lean muscle mass as a predictor of long term health. Take BMI with a grain of salt. Rather look at lean muscle bulk. Miskien het hy die Saterdag kaalvoet in SPAR kuite en bulletjie arms?
  8. Jir, as ek die pa was. Accident or not. I'd be in prison today for my immediate actions there and then.
  9. A bit out of my way but this sounds great! Gives me lekker Ezel/klipberg nostalgia.
  10. That's a shame. Last update here was 19hours ago
  11. So. Overal hard ride. Cold and wet. Mud was worse than the steep route profile. Meurants trails also lived up to their reputation. Not many free km's. I'm getting to bed early tonight.
  12. I'm hoping for a slopfest. Need a new drive train anyway.
  13. Sorry to hear about the mugging. Not lekker at all. Assuming you are OK physically.
  14. I'm a big fan of Titan. Strong frames and budget conscious builds. Silverback is my number 1 choice though. Love the siablo series.
  15. 125kg here. 1.8 front and 2.0 back with vittoria airliner in back. Volumes 2.35-2.5x 29er. I ride rocky stuff occasionally irresponsibility fast. Tyre casings are wtb tough casings. So like spez blckdmnd or maxxis dd.
  16. Not a single smile in all those laps. He hates mtb.
  17. On a side note. Whilst Maxxis rubber is grippy and feels great on trials... It doesn't appreciate being on a commuter. The rekon race I put on the back of my commuter HT is about 30 rides old and close to being replaced.
  18. @dasilvarsa They do. Better on gravel than tarmac. I rode the protection version for a year. Tarmac and glass cuts eventually killed it.
  19. Continental race king II in 2.2. Fastest mtb tyre I've ever ridden. Fair grip.
  20. Good on you for trying to commute on a single speed. My recommendation would be to try a 1x10 or 1x11 setup first. I'm my mind at least, a mild-moderate workout before work is one of the best parts of commuting. Another reason I'm not running for an ebike right now is simplicity. All I want to do is the once a week tyre pressure check and chain lube and off I am. If you aren't enjoying the route as it is just too strenuous, I can see the point of an ebike. I'd go for a rear hub motor setup by someone like chilled squirrel. That way you can still pedal without the extra wear on your drivetrain hy the motor. All the best Oh ja. High viz jacket, front and rear lights and a little mirror is an absolute life saver.

    Grippy flat pedals

Don't under estimate the new dmr v8. Price and durability is good. Bushing replacement cheap and easy as pie.

    Microshift

My son's microshift 1x10 setup on his titan 20 inch bike is fantastic. Wide range with crisp quiet accurate shifting. And that's the bike that gets ridden the most often in this house.
  23. My take on flats vs clipped in. Flats for everyday commute and all riding done on my trail full sus bike. I wear Adidas/fiveten shoes on dmr vaults. But have used crank bros stamp/dmr v12/e13 etc with good results. I have clipless setup (lake shoes) and would only ride them on hardtails/gravel/road or super short travel fs bikes as they tend to bounce my feet around a bit more when unweighting my bike over choppy stuff. I know people like DdT ride ultra rough trails on hardtails, but he's quite a bit lighter than me and I fear I'll smash my rear wheel in no time with the heels down hulk smash approach. In terms of efficacy. Legs are designed to push. Knees are definitely not designed to pull. Tiring out your stabilisers may result in abnormal knee dynamics in the weekend warrior. I'm sure the pro roadies have popliteus muscles the size of the average Joe's medial gastrocnemius. I can crank out 50 extra watts if I actively push-pull on the IDT for a few minutes. But from practical experience in riding both flats and clipped in on the smart trainer, there is zero difference.
