  1. They say when all you have is a hammer- everything starts looking like a nail... When you have a chainsaw - everything looks like it needs to be trimmed/dropped
  2. Trainer is off and unplugged when not in use. 3pin computer supply cable(I use the same one between treadmill and trainer) they are on a surge protector as well( we are currently direct eskom customers with 3phase line and we have a lot of power issues- (Solar has been ordered though to go 100% off grid next month) I have run it off a generator a few times successfully as well. Mine is an old Gen 1 kickr, as above, 0 issues except the odd connection issues. A big one I picked up in other forums. What flooring do you have around the trainer- mine is on a mat, but it has always been wood or tiled floor under that. I read somewhere that static can hammer the esd as well, so they mentioned carpet floors and socks then static shock to the machine. Not sure if it is possible to blow the esd that way, but a few guys reckon that is a possibility.
  3. To help get the thread back on track, something I can suggest to Scott owners- Get a syncros multitool, it has everything needed for your bike. I always try to do as much of the work/maintenance on my bicycle with the toolkit I carry. Obviously knowing certain things are impossible(removing bottom brackets, pulling cassette's etc) but what it does is it gives you a trail knowledge, when something goes wrong you know you have the tool to be able to fix it. You also then can make sure your multitool matches your bike, or if you need to change bolts in places to allow you to be able to fix them on trail. And back off topic, ya that timing chain block and timing have a close eye kept on them.
  4. it is funny how the Chinese copy these things. We have an el cheapo Adendorff chainsaw, it came with the same tool. But you are right it is a gamechanger for convenience in the field.
  5. There is a cane creek headset that may help you. I had similar issue years ago. For me back in the day it was cheaper to buy a new cheap fork than to buy the headset. I think isiko sports are the distributors for cane creek
  6. Also for the Land rover fans and DIY mechanics, I have been eyeing this out for a while, I am not sure if it is sacrilege or genius but it is some serious power output. Would make an awesome plaas vehicle in bakkie format, capable and just plug it in each night. Conversion comes as a kit https://www.electrogenic.co.uk/cars/land-rover-defender-high-voltage
  7. OK I'll bite.... I'd rather be put in a convertible series 1 Land Rover Defender as a daily driver for a 50km commute during a cape winter than own either of those though. Plus the Fortuner insurance costs will make up the 10K difference in service fees within a year anyway. And when last did you look back at your fortuner as you walked away and think- man that is a cool car. But yes SWB Pajero's are small ish(hence I ended up selling mine) but they are far bigger than a jimny inside and perfect for a bachelor though. Mine lived with the back seats flat. If it is just 1 or 2 of you there is plenty of space for all manner of adventure

There is a very old saying, no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing... Glad you had a good ride though. Also on the clothing front- remember- Cotton KILLS!
  9. Surely, someone is brave enough to dive into fixing one of these core units. I mean if you have to fork out for another unit anyway there is nothing to lose. It is in theory a case of buying a new power supply and then somehow replacing the ESD chip? Or am I over simplifying it? There are some good treadmill mechanics around. It is expensive to fix a treadmill but it can be done. I am sure the skills are transferrable?
  10. I sold mine to my old man because I needed a bakkie(loading sand and building supplies) but I have since laid down the law in terms of buy back, he is not allowed to sell it unless I have the first option. I took that vehicle a few places it shouldn't have gone, it also did a lot of work pulling the usual suspects out the mud at the dairy.
  11. That is why you should own a Pajero 3,2 DID SWB. It'll do everything the landy does just with airbags, aircon, cruise control, heated leather seats and no oil leaks. Not great(but not landy) fuel economy. But you still have that urge to look back and admire it every time you walk away from it. Something sensible cars never provide...
  12. I bought a 2nd hand 1st gen kickr in 2017, the mrs and I have easy done 4000km a year on it combined since then. It is still on OEM belt, I have changed the idler bearings because the one was slightly rough and I am pedantic about bearings. That was just an SKF bearing from a local supplier for under R100 for 2. So the early ones are really bomb proof from MY experience. The core's obviously had their issues but the kickr themselves seem to have less issues. My wahoo does complain every now and then when I have a phone and watch trying to read from it, but usually that is sorted by unplugging it and plugging it back in...
  13. that looks so good. Thankfully I watch my steaks grow in the field outside my office every day. I know they are clean
  14. You can do more damage to your body without realising it, pain is a way you body can tell you to stop Tramadol causes drowsiness, so the same reason you are not supposed to drive or operate heavy machinery or perform dangerous activities. Now in a peloton prone to crashes you have someone drowsy. Tramadol through the serotonin level increase can cause hyponatraemia, which is very very dangerous.
  15. Do you think he went with the sheep ralgro or the cattle ralgro?
  16. Speculation but finish Munga and run sub 17min at your local parkrun. Once you have done both let us know which was harder to achieve...
  17. Consider this, in your development team working alongside each other you have a specialist front end developer and a specialist back end developer. Or would you prefer one senior jack of all trades trying to do the whole job? Most major front suspension on bikes moved or is moving to separate function forks, where one fork does rebound and the other compression- 2 specialists. Away from each fork doing both. You can see this across major suspension specialist companies- fox, WP, Ohlins, KYB, showa... With a lefty the fork has to do both compression and rebound on it's own. Where a Lefty used to have a distinct advantage- was that the mounting/clamp it had what was similar to a motorbike triple clamp. So the fork was attached both above and below the headset which gives massive lateral rigidity. Traditional forks flex hard at that point below the headset. The newer lefty's seem to not have that design. My guess is that a 2.35 mtb tyre at 1,5bar flexes long before the crown of the fork will anyway. I think the lefty, much like a diamond engagement ring. Was a great marketing scheme, it is distinct in that not only do you know Canondale but you know why it is special in it's suspension. No matter what- people will be talking about it... So well played to them.
  18. definitely. Either way all of these events are pointless- You cannot be the fittest person on earth unless you are doing sub par pull ups, sickeningly bad deadlifts and running around stadiums really slow. This after spending way to much on a gym fee because of royalties.... #Angryfit
  19. I guess they need to adjust their tagline- the more achievable tough race hahahaha
  20. you can literally fly to Kyrgystan, race silk road, and fly home for less than a munga entry. I will give you a hint which will be a more mind blowing experience...
  21. Pick either, then arm your keyboard and defend your choice to the death....
  22. I may be guilty of throwing away multiple reamer tools, bakkie, mtb, motorbike.
  23. Adjust your brake lever slightly closer to the bar so that it sits in the break of your first knuckle. As you pull you close on that and there is no way it can slip out. In shooting comparison you want the lever in a position that would pull a pistol shot to the right(right hand shot).
  24. Only because you mentioned ability to stretch budget... 80k can get you a titan cypher carbon pro in either 100 or 120mm. There is not a huge weight difference between the 2.
  25. Story of life, a workshop is never big enough... We have a 6m x 15m workshop and you still walk channels. If it is too big to fit on the workbench you end up working on it outside under the tree. Next phase of workshop is to rebuild the afdak into an undercover open air woodworking shop, should end up 4m x 10m with a closeable end section to lock up the woodwork tools. The other 4mx5m becomes the new gym. But that can only be done after the bathrooms and kitchen are redone.
