  1. Thought the MTB was a ride tactic. Anyone drafting behind you feels too guilty and immediately goes to the front ;-)
  2. 3 days. Maybe a bit short. The longest tar ride, similar in intensity to Freedom Challenge (although much shorter) is the 600km Audax rides held in CT and Jozi. I stand to be corrected if anyone knows of anything longer.
  3. Good luck People. Definitely on my list. When's the tar version coming out ;-)
  4. Today we undertook the 200km 'Dasville Dash - Benoni-Heidelburg-Dasville and home. Spent the first 50km trying to catch the Cyclelab Race Team. Sorry only got Anthony (?) and Jay's names. Rode with them to Dasville. Thanks, Guys. Great experience riding with such a strong bunch. Seriously chilly day. Blew up after this. Rode on my own to H'burg, where I met up with Underachiever. Thanks, Mate. Good ride home. My polar told the following tale: Ride time: 7h17 Ave heart rate: 154 (84%) 6979 KCal Ave speed: 27.1 km/h Lo: 3 deg; Hi 21 deg ( in the sun?) Thanks again to Eddie for such a fine event. See youse all next month.
  5. Against all odds, one rider still in the saddle is South African Sean Conway, who at one point was riding in a neck brace with a compression fracture to the spine. He's currently in Darwin, Australia, with 9,390 miles on the clock. From: http://m.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/mike-hall-on-verge-of-smashing-round-the-world-record-34124/ This is incredible. Averaging 320km a day for. 100- plus days.
  6. Thanks, Joe. Didn't realize we were moving so fast. Some of my comments were perhaps injudicious. Thanks for the ride.
  7. Thanks for your race report, RoboCyclist. Well done on staying with the bunch. This was my first ride in the A group. The group was fast, and the early attacks jacked the pace up. I see from your figures that the group got slightly slower as the ride went on. I went anaerobic in the first five km. My water bottle went flying on the mini speed bumps at about 20km. It being a R60 Elite Scalatore 1l bottle. I stopped to pick it up. The cap was smashed. I didn't even try catch you guys, as soon enough BL came flashing by. Talk about extremes, whereas AL seemed like a well-oiled machine, BL couldn't get going. Another rider and I drove the buch for 60km, but we were battling to keep going at even 35 km/h. 20km from the line a few CL riders bridged and cranked the pace. The sprint was a tame affair, with only a few riders bothering. There was a fair amount of aggro in BL. Shouting at a junior on restricted gears for not taking a longer turn at the front, or almost coming to blows because someone got too close in a field sprint when you're battling for 5th place in the B group defies logic. In spite of this minor quibble, a fine day's racing. Looking forward to the Jock, when staying with the bunch for a guy like me of 95kg is going to take some doing on those climbs.
  8. We all finished in 13h30min. Another great day on the bike. Thanks Eddie and Jean for another great event!
  9. Just got to Nigel. Everyone strong. 185km down.115km to go. Should be back by dark. Wind starting to blow :-(
  10. Jo'burg. Starts in Benoni. Let me know if you need more details.
  11. Looks to be only a few of us. Hope you and your MTB will be joining us again soon!

  16. Excellent! What group you in?
  17. Thanks! Anyone got the total ascent in vertical meters. The climb out of Magaliesburg is one of the hardest/longest I've done in Gauteng.
  18. Excellent! What start group?
  19. Should get SMS today or tomorrow. What group you in?
  20. Erm, what was it about this event that earned your ire?
  21. Thanks. Do we ascend or descend H'poort?
  22. Dunno. The route looks like Tarlton-Maropeng-Hekpoort, Magaliesburg, back to Tarlton. Did you do it last year?

    Wilro 2012

Any Hubbers doing the Wilro on Sunday? Haven't done this route. Looks like a fair amount of climbing.
  24. No Boulders! Love that climb. Oh well, new route should be fun. The road down Hilltop is now in great shape, so should be fine descent :-))
  25. There like a bear. Always a fun day. Also did it two years ago. How's the route different this year?
