  1. Noteer project from my first year woodworking course. Don't tellen anyone but I glued the front upside down So I had to raise the bar that keeps the leather up. The chair is quite comfortable but now my feet can 't touch the ground, lol. But then again, I'm a shorty
  2. Day 3 along the North Sea, beautiful undulating dunes... http://i64.tinypic.com/243qoon.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/mre169.jpg Busy Haarlem Centre http://i65.tinypic.com/2llbw54.jpg Back at home now, did 273km in 3 days, quite proud of meself :-)
  3. I did 98km yesterday. So I was getting tired after 70km today.... :-D On to Rotterdam harbour. Even there they have beautiful cycling lanes! It's pretty impressive scenery in it's own way. Took the ferry across to my end destination for today
  4. 2nd day in Holland. Started on the Deltaworks, very impressive if you know this keeps half of Holland above water! Next through beautiful dunes and across another fun dam to ride
  5. Middelburg, Zeeland
  6. So I started my 3 days cycling holiday. Took off at 9 this morning, grey weather but not cold. Sun came through about midday. I am now on the first island with the cutest villages. Did 83km so far, 5 more until my bed for tonight. Lekka relaxed ridind, just super
  7. That's hubby's and my plan too, no joking! At least spend 2-3 months in the winter abroad. With energy costs here and cheap living in SA, it would almost save us money ;-)
  8. Each in turn, my friend. I remember that feeling from 6 months ago ;-)
  9. Today, nowhere. The next three days: along the beautiful coastline of the Netherlands, all the way up to Haarlem +/-250km! Weather forecast looks perfect: around 23° with a slight headwind. Very excited :-) I'll try to post pictures but my mobile phone doesn't seem to like thuis website.
  10. Just my regular commute to the train station where I saw this silly joke. I think it works in Afrikaans too, no?
  11. Do I have a cat or a dog? My nephew and I walked in the park yesterday, juist across the street from my house. Our cat followed us all the way! At some point just strolling between us, Very cute
  12. Aargh dunno why that pic is upside down
  13. I took my 12yr old nephew out for a spin. He loves riding my road bike even though he's becoming too big for it (he's 1m70 already!). His fastest was 40km/h. A true Flandrien.Pround auntie :-)
  14. The sun did come out yesterday afternoon Enjoyed myself so much I came into work by bike again today
  15. It's not fair, your winter days look nicer than our summer days! Today was supposed to be sunny and warm so I wanted to cycle to work. It was around 16° and cloudy and even some drizzle. Let's hope the sun comes through by this afternoon I enjoyed it anyway
  16. Thanks for the explanantion. I'm starting to realise that this is indeed a major advantage here in Europe and Belgium and the Netherlands especially. So many bike paths, tow paths, cycling 'highways', longer cycling routes (like the North Sea Cycle Route of which I'm cycle a tiny bit of 250km in 3 weeks time),... And as a woman, I don't have to worry about my safety cycling alone. But the scenery is not as impressive as SA, and the weather isn't always that great,
  17. I get the impression that it's only possible to ride trails in private estates in SA, is that correct? You can 't just go to a nice area and ride around to explore? Too dangerous?
  18. hehehe, the dream is now a plan! 3 days in july (I have a week off, hubby has to work anyway). Day 1: cycle from home around Gent to Vrouwenpolder in Zeeland, Netherlands +/- 80km day 2: from Vrouwenpolder over the famous Dutch Deltaworks, crossing 3 big bridges, 2 islands and 1 ferry ride to Hoek van Holland (next to Roterdam's harbour) +/- 90km day 3: From Hoek van Holland to Haarlem (next to Amsterdam), this route runs through some beautiful dunes and alond the beach +/- 75km I'll take my hybrid city bike (Trek navigator T300). Even at a leasurely pace of around 20km/h, it gives me enough time to enjoy the scenery and the villages along the way. accomodation: there's a Dutch network called "vrienden op de fiets" where you can stay overnight with other cycle enthousiasts at home for just €19/night, breakkie included! . A real bargain, hotels or B&B's would cost me around €50-60/night easily. Nothing fancy, just a clean bed and a shower and some Dutch hospitality. Now let's hope the weather doesn't ruin my plans (the trauma from the CTCT is real....) 4 more weeks
  19. Pine ply and joined with biscuits
  20. another great thread on this forum I just finished my first year of woodworking's course and I love it! I missed quite a lot of classes (that's what happens when you spend 3 weeks in SA and get knee surgery afterwards) This is my best work so far: a shoe kabinet! The doors will be painted white The lamps are a little project I made with my 12-year old nephew.
  21. first but not the last? Enjoy!
  22. Best way to end a day at the office
  23. Fantastic summer days here in the northern hemisphere. I cycled to work this morning (24km) and took the long way home along the Schelde (40km). I love these towpaths! I even had a lift on this cute ferry
  24. Did 57km yesterday, along the Schelde river, it was cloudy but hot and humid (around 27-28°). I really needed that beer at the end! ;-)
  25. Another one from yesterday, cycling on Rotterdam 's Erasmus bridge. What a view! And look at that cycle lane.
