  1. @halfdoesyn, thou art forgiven! @djr, It's an old second hand bike I bought 2 years ago to see if I would like cycling on a road bike. It's one of my favourite things now, both cycling and the bike! It fits me perfectly.
  2. Strava is not compatible with my phone anymore... f-ing updates
  3. Are you all aiming to do a certain amount of kms before race day or just get as much as you can? I had to change batteries of my speedometer and forgot to check my total amount of km and so it resetted to 0! Anyways, New year, New start. I forgot 85km now and wondering if I should set myself a goal before race day
  4. @BSG, I think it's a working horse, not a horse for riding. He's a real beauty though
  5. Notice that the river edge is still frozen!
  6. Beauriful morning here, even made it in the doubke digit temperatures! Planned on 40km but it was so nice I made a detour and did 50km
  7. Woehoew, weekend! And the forecast predicts a whopping 9° and sunshine for tomorrow. Time to get the bike out. 9° sounds great after a week of freezing cold. My knee is acting up. I recently noticed that I can't strech my left knee completely anymore. It doesn't hurt and it's not bothering. I just noticed that when I strech my legs, there's a difference of about 3 cm between the left and the right knee. I don't want to go to a doctor because I don't want to hear that I can't ride anymore. But I made an appointment anyway, better now before it gets worse I suppose?
  8. True, we have better cycle paths and routes. Can't the Cape province employ me as a European expert to develop a cyling policy? Best of both worlds
  9. beautiful pictures every one. This is my daily dose of zen. I'm so jealous of your sunshine and beautiful nature...
  10. I feel your pain @wahoofish. Are you also training for the CTCT? Same here in Belgium but the scenery is beautiful
  11. In summer, when we have the emergency door open in our office, I can literally ride into the office, right next to my desk. Great fun Barcelona is good fun to ride! This is from a few years back. The little alleys are also fun
  12. haha, with only the Fire Ride from 2015 to show, I have an index of 114 I don't really want to start at 6am, 8-ish would be perfect.I'll be in an international group. If I finish in about 5 hours, I'd be happy 52 days left
  13. More time to enjoy the scenery and the ride :-) But what about those fires around CPT? They seem crazy this year or is this normal? only 7.5 weeks to go, I still haven't been on my bike, it's been over a month now. But it's so coooold! I still take my regular bike to go to the train station in my regular warm clothes and winter coat but it's no fun. The upside: no risk of getting my bike stolen: the lock is frozen :-)
  14. nooooo, no fires again! I want to do the 109km this time. Or is it a great conspiracy to keep me coming back to SA every 2 years? (I could live with that as wel ;-))
  15. @DJR, I prefer Pure Savage's advice about the G&T's Just kidding, I know malaria is to be taken seriously. I'll consult my doctor before going. That wind sounds crazy! Let's hope for a beautiful day on the 12th of March. I'm getting really frustrated with the winter here, temperatures are around freezing point. I'm even considering taking up spinning in a gym but I hate gyms. Need to get rid of some holiday festivities kilo's
  16. In Cape Town?! What?! haha I know, we spend 5 days in CPT and fly to JBurg the day after the CTCTto start our road trip. We did the garden route and route 62 in 2015 I don't plan on taking malariapills, I took them some years ago when I went to Mali and Burkina and those pills (Lariam) make me really dizzy and weird. A doctor once told me that even pills don't protect you 100% and if you do catch malaria, they can't give you anything stronger then those pills anymore. So, we'll be covering ourselves in a lot of repellent with DEET. And I think only those 3 days in Kruger are malaria area, no? Or Drakensbergen too?
  17. Happy new year to every one only 9 weeks.... how's every one's training going? I just started work again after a 10 day holiday. I had hoped to go out for a ride a few times but first I was sick for 5 days and now the weather is coooooold, gray and rainy, it's depressing! It's still dark when I leave home in the morning and dark again when I come back. Did a small tour for about an hour on my regular citybike on monday, that's all. on a side note: looking forward to our SA trip, I've worked out a nice route, and booked some great accomodation (JNB - Nelspruit - 2 nights Graskop - 2 nights Kruger - 1 night in Swaziland Hlane - 2 nights St Lucia - 2 nights Durban - 2 nights Underberg - 3 nights Bergville - 1 night JNB) ek kan ni wag ni!
  18. Our handsome boy showing off...
  19. About 5° and a cold eastern wind... but look at that view
  20. once you're used to it, it will feel like a priveledge to commute by bike!
  21. but but but, how can I train with this weather http://meteo1.standaard.be/
  22. 100 days till race day...and 96 days until I'm in SA again.
  23. I'm in Tenerife for the moment, (in pursuit of a bit of sunshine). You guys might find me a sissy but the mountains here scare me when it comes to cycling! The climbs are way to steep, easily 7-10% and more and constant hairpin turns. Even by car, you have to stay in 1st gear to get uphill. Chappies is a molehill compared to these roads. And as for downhill, I'd be too scared to cycle relaxed and safely.. But beautiful island, that is true :-)
  24. 15° is lekker to ride. We have 6° this weekend and a storm passing so no cycling. This is from a few weeks aago...
